You said in a video a while back, something along the lines of "If you have to think about your boots at any point during the game, they probably aren't the right boot for you" and that really stuck with me. When I wear mercurials I feel that the traction is one dimensional(forward) so I feel myself having to unnaturally use my heels to cut if the grass is a mostly firm but little bit moist surface. With Nike it seems all or nothing: On wet grass the SG boots they make work, very well but only really for a rainy day. Say I want a regular SG boot? Can't get that for a moist or damp pitch. If I wear the AG boots I can't play moist grass without sacrificing performance a lot while the FG boots, almost act like little shovels that clump grass to the sole plate leaving a clumpy heavy mess instead of the light boot it's supposed to be. So FG only works on super dry grass, AG on AG and SG on super wet grass... Whereas with the Adidas X boots, I feel like the boots, although not ideal for every surface actually perform well on every surface except for maybe really wet slippy pitches. So to be able to play perfectly on every surface with Adidas, 2 pairs. With Nike? 3. To me that's a huge factor. Also with Adidas you can get away with just one pair if you can book games around the weather: non rainy days on grass and rainy days on AG. Sorted. I have a pair of mercurials but the X18.1 and my newly ordered X19.1 have been my boots of choice for this season and likely next.

Callum 14 my guess is the mesh is somewhat lighter the primeknit or also the X mesh is thinner or another final option is primeknit isn’t advanced as flyknit since the mercurial is made out of flyknit 360 which is a structure flyknit and isn’t a flat layer while primeknit when knit isn’t available in 360 if that makes sense

The main reason is because it's likely cheaper for them to make them this way. That sounds like a bad thing, but a more open, padded mesh base does make for a sifter feel in comparison to a more dense and structured, tightly knit upper. I'm sure they could make the upper Primeknit, but I'm not sure that they'd be better.

It could be boot related, but it's also worth noting that once you've had a black toenail, it's easier for the injury to happen again. At least that has been my experience.

I just switched from the X17+ to X18.1 months ago, I really like both, tough to say which one is better I thought the 17+ was super soft and comfortable but not as durable I ripped my upper. The X18.1 are up to par maybe a little better on lockdown and structure feels a tad bit more solid. I would say just go for the X18.1 or X19.1
