So just for a quick history lesson: Countdown is actually an adaptation of the French game "Des Chiffres et des Lettres" which is exactly the same thing but in French, it also exist in other european countries like Italy where it's called "Paroliamo" which all are derived from the original French game, so it'd be the other way around that Grant said, that is the fact that it exists in other countries & that's the Brits took the concept of a french game

Here's Countdown play along score, from joining in the game in real time: Round 1: Doomed for 6 ponts. Round 1.1: Habitat for 7 points. Round 1.2: I got 625 like Connor did, for 7 points because I was within 10. My math was (8x 100) - (50 x 3) - 25 = 625 Round 1.3: Poolside for 8 points. Round 2: Navigate for 8 points. Round 2.1: Sallon for 5 points. Round 2.2: I got 845 for 7 points because I was within 10. My math was (8 x 100)+ (3 + 2) + (5 x 9)= 845 Round 2.3: I got killing for 7 points at first, and weakling on the second clock. Round 3: I got antidotes for 7 points. Round 3.1: I got peon for 4 points. Round 3.2: I got 7 points because I was within 10. My math was (50 x 10) + (23- 8) = 517. I didnt get the exact one until after the bois. Round 3.3: I didnt get it. Round Final: I didnt get it. Total: 73 Im not 100% sure on the rules, but it was fun playing along. Edit: Subtracting my score from the words that werent on the board or didn't work, my score is 59.

Mudan gets the job done. When you tell him to do the sickest jojo edit he just delivers it.
@CurlyBruce2 жыл бұрын
I was under the impression that you needed to use every number at least once (and only once) for the math section. For the first one you can get 628 with all numbers by doing [(100-75+50)*8]+25+3 for 628 exactly. For the second one you can get 853 with all numbers by doing [(100-2)*8]+75+3-9 for 853 exactly. Garnt actually managed this in the third round so props for that. Of course there are most likely multiple solutions that use every number once and only once but those are the ones I was able to come up with.
@ٴٴٴ-ث6ق2 жыл бұрын
I just did 100 * 50 = 5 000. And then 5 000/8 = 625. Then 625 + 3 = 628. Or do you need to use all numbers? Or easier for head counting 50/2 = 25. 25/2 = 12.5 . 12.5 /2 = 6.25. And then move the . to the right two times so it's 625 and then + 3. edit: I looked further into the video, and someone said the exact same thing lol
@BlackJackOfAllTrades2 жыл бұрын
I also thought you had to use every number so I got (75x8)+100-25-50+3 for the first one
@shensei42 жыл бұрын
Actually true, I also thought chat, the bois and Ashley were braindead because they were either using numbers more than once, or not using a number at all (most people and Ashley's solution didn't use 9). It took me a sec, but I also figured out my own solution to the problem. For me, I got 853 by ((75+8)x9)=747, 747+100 is 847, then you add (2x3) which gives you 853 exactly. I was losing my mind that no one seemed to clarify the rules or care that they didn't use all the numbers.

The only other time I watched Countdown it was when Tom Scott played. I'd love to see this done again with the boys and other youtubers!

So, the moment you guys started doing Countdown, and showcasing how it works, I realized that we have it in Serbia, but under the name "Slagalica" (which translates to "Puzzle", like a Jigsaw Puzzle), and it has those three segments, plus some other ones, like associations, and whatnot.

For round 2.2 math equation, there is a way to do it with division involved (9x100) - ((75+3)/2) - 8 or otherwise 900 - 39 - 8 = 853 (in case its not clear, 75+3 is 78 divided by 2 is 39)

Its also one way to include every single number once to get the answer

When they said „There’s no division” I’ve been wondering how because I was sitting at ((8+9)x100)/2 + 3 the whole time and I could not accept anything else into my brain haha

I thought the math one had to use all the numbers to solve, it's much less difficult than I thought without having to do that. Either way, I got the first round using all (beyond the 30s so it would be no points): 75 * 8 + 100 - (50 + 25) + 3 = 628

44:47 The best one I could think of was 25*(75-50)+3=628
