My advice to anyone beginning to print their own work and having worked my way through the test packs of most companies papers is that for general purposes the one paper I can rely on to produce consistent results in all situations both colour and mono Is Fotospeed’s Matt Ultra 240 (if you are on a really tight budget then Matt Proofing 170 even produces frame-able prints up to A4). After that I favour Platinum Gloss Art Fibre 300 if I want to ‘posh it up a bit’ but definitely horses for courses! Thanks for the overview Tim.

thank you Tim, been going through the Fotospeed test packs recently and the Platinum Gloss Fine Art Fibre has been my favourite so far. Still trying to pick a favourite Matt paper but still to decide which one to go for

Thanks for your thoughts on paper choice. Does the framing glass influence the paper choice? I’m thinking about the level of anti reflection treatment, or lack of it.

Great video, just one question does Ink type make a difference? I have a Pro100s which is dye based rather than the more Pro Pigment based printers?
@FotospeedUK3 жыл бұрын
The ink type can make a difference to the papers. Generally Dye based printers are more suited to gloss, lustre, Pearl type papers than matte papers. In saying that the newer printers including the Pro100s work really well on matte papers, mainly due the a Pigment black ink being added for use on Matt papers. Dye inks also generally don't offer the same archival properties. Tim

Great video! What aspect ratio did you use for the photos? How can we leave space for passepartout?

Hi Landra, I printed the picture through Lightroom setting the page side to A3 and adding an 1inch border all the way around. Tim

Platinum Etching, NST Bright White would both work.

Very interesting video - you've got another customer. BUT, all my pictures are framed behind glass - how does that influence your choice of paper?
@FotospeedUK2 жыл бұрын
Hi John, great to hear you are a convert. I do have some customers say that because the prints are behind glass they don't have to use a as thicker paper. Tim
