Maaan.. about 947 previous KZbin videos have lost me to this subject before this one. They all expertly explain what picture profiles ARE and what they look like (which is.... I mean.. why? I can see what they look like.. thx tho..) but none of them bothered to explain the WHY and certainly not the REASONS to use them. Great video! Simple, but it explained more in a few mins, than the previous ones in hours and hours of digging. Subscribed. Thanks, Attila

I think color correction is always necessary. Color grading however is something you do exclusively for yourself and your tech-nerd friends. The client almost never appreciates the difference between standard or graded footage. So I have given up on grading and spend that time on script development instead.
@olegvorkunov54003 жыл бұрын
I settled with HLG2 BT2020 gamma Details -7 and Stauration -7. Image does not need much of tweaking/grading at all. Saturation = 0 is also good. Camera A7C. If I need to do any color grading, I export result from Davinci Resolve in Main10 4:2:0 HVEC MP4 file and it looks great!

I've been shooting a bunch of corporate indoor shoots on a flat background in LOG just to practice color grading, and because I got the idea that shooting in the standard profile was just unacceptable for a professional to do, like shooting stills with the camera on Auto. What PP would u recommended trying to film a tornado. Dunna, 100% S Log 2 is tough to grade unless you have time. I have not tried hlg3 as I usually stick with hlg2. Do you change hlg3 to rec 709 or do you keep it bt2020?

A bunch of my photos are all gray and I can't properly fix them. Thank you in advance!
@dunnadidit Жыл бұрын
You got it! Take your curves, grab the very top point and drag it to the left across the top, then take the very bottom point and drag it right along the bottom. Then add a little s-curve between the two for contrast. Then crank up the saturation a bit and you should be at a decent starting place.

Justin, this is such a helpful video. I've been struggling recently because I shoot in Cine 2 and then color grade it. I add the Premiere Pro fix for Mac at the end (it helps in fixing the desaturated colors and tints that Premiere causes when you render using a Mac). But for my last video, the end result that was uploaded to KZbin looked way too punchier than I wanted it to be. I have no idea why it's doing that. Have you had any issues with Premiere pro exports and how did you fix them? I was thinking if I should start shooting in HLG3 or SLOG 2 rather than my Cine2 profile.
@dunnadidit4 жыл бұрын
When I was using premiere more I always used their gamma fix lut on export and that seemed to help. Not sure why it wouldn’t be working for you 🤷🏻♂️
@dunnadidit4 жыл бұрын
That said, I do notice that KZbin always looks different than QuickTime, which looks different than premiere. So it’s got to be that some different kind of processing is happening at each stage
@AmritaBhortake4 жыл бұрын
@@dunnadidit I don't think that it's not working, it's definitely working but rather than being desaturated, it's doing the opposite and getting too contrasty.

Hey, question: I do not use pp myself, but feel that it mainly helps to get consistency across pictures in terms of editing, do that you do not have to adjust your pictures from 0. I watched this video, but do not see the advantage yet as long as you edit your pictures later on via laptop/adobe. I do not mind to spend time to adjust my raw files. How do you look at this? Thanks!
@dunnadidit4 жыл бұрын
Picture profiles don't apply to photos. They're really only for video. If you're shooting raw photos, picture profiles actually don't work. Even if you shoot with them enabled, the minute you import them into lightroom, the picture profile goes away and what you see if the raw photo. I guess the fact that this was just for video and not for photos was something I could have brought up. I took for granted that people would know that 🤦♂️
