Good review. But another thing that bothered me about the live-action Pinocchio is that he uses his lying to get out of a situation. Sure, being smart and resourceful is good, because he knew to use his long nose to get the key that was across the room. But what was Disney trying to tell kids with the whole message of lying? He’s supposed to apologize for lying, not use it to his advantage.

The lies Pinocchio tells are him trying not to admit any of his wrongdoings -- it just so happened his nose grew almost long enough for Jiminy to reach the key -- and the lie he tells which enables Jiminy to get the key is a White Lie. Even if he told all those lies to get the key, there still is one issue: just because Jiminy got the key doesn't mean that Pinocchio is automatically free as even with the door unlocked, his freakishly long nose traps him in the cage. How he gets free is Pinocchio admitting his wrongdoings (what he should have done instead of lying) until his nose shrinks back to normal. It makes 0 sense for him to intentionally tell all those lies so his nose can grow long enough to get the key and then admit wrongdoings and boom his nose is back to its normal size. The message that you shouldn't lie is in this movie... just like in the original.

Yes, I watched a couple other reviews that pointed out the same thing about the lying scene. I very much agree. I guess that kind of goes back to the whole changing of Pinocchio’s character thing, where he’s not as committed to doing bad things, as he is in the animation. Thanks so much for watching!

Basically, what makes Pinocchio 1940 significant to many is that a wooden puppet acts like an actual troublesome boy and gets punished for it, he has an arc and becomes good, asks for forgiveness and saves his father and is rewarded by becoming a real boy. If the moral of Pinocchio 2022 was you're great just the way you are, they should never have transformed Pinocchio into a real boy at the end.
@CheeseTree432 жыл бұрын
I very much agree. I guess they felt obligated to show some kind of transformation, even just a subtle one, at the very end of the live action. Thanks for watching!

The fact he already is the best he can be and is already a good boy who tends to do the right thing if he's not peer pressured into it makes me question why he is still a puppet as that was the goal of pinocchio. And since pinocchio makes much better choices makes me question why jimmy cricket is there, if somehow pinocchio already has some moral compass already other then being the narrator.

Both are great, but the 1940 animated film is the best! I still love the remake, though. Pinocchio is my favorite Disney animated film of all-time, and the remake is my favorite Disney remake of all-time! I also remember seeing Pinocchio appear in The Polar Express and Who Framed Roger Rabbit (two of my favorite movies, which are both directed by Robert Zemeckis), so that's pretty neat.

Question 🙋♀️, how come you thought 💭 the ending in the live action version was good 👍 where Geppetto dies?
@CheeseTree43 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! Although I prefer the animated version, I think it was an interesting twist to see Pinocchio be the one to be sorrowful for the loss of a loved one. However, I think it would have been far more effective if the things that Pinocchio had done in the live action version were actually his fault. Because then Pinocchio’s sorrow would have been much deeper and personal, as his missteps would have been more so the reason that Geppetto came to his demise. A bit dark, perhaps, but I think it would have been much more meaningful and also making it feel more like a story of redemption for Pinocchio. I hope that makes sense. Thanks again!

I think a big part of the problem is that the CGI for Pinocchio (The character) is just… Uncanny. Despite him showing emotion, it just lacks the… liveliness of the original animated movie.

@@TF2Fan101 Personally, I thought it was at least okay, but I know what you mean and can agree. In hand drawn animation, I’m sure there’s a lot more freedom of emotional expression. I suppose a similar issue also occurred with the “live action” Lion King. Thanks for watching! 🙂
