Which Piping Bag Works the Best?

Piping bags! There are three major types: tradtional pastry bags, silicone and disposable. Which one is best? I pipe my way to perfection and draw my own conclusions.

I really like your point about plastics . There is plastic washing up on tiny islands in the Pacific. It's poluting our lakes and oceans. I'm switching to a reusable paper type! Thanks for the comparison

I know I'm late to the party here - but if anyones having issues cleaning bags thoroughly - just turn them inside out, wash, then prop a big cooking spoon up in the dish strainer and stick the bag over it. If you hang the bag by the hook, the sides can stick together and not dry. A big cooking spoon will hold the bag open and then it dries faster.

FYI, the blue bags are made from TPU (themoplastic polyurethane), not silicone. All the amazon china sellers put silicone in the product description because of the popularity of silicone in a lot of bakeware.

Worked decorating donuts for 4 years, we used those think canvas style bags kinda like the Winston ones and I love how firm and easy to clean they were

I love the silicone one. Just threw one away after 6 months use because some parts of it got too stretched. But overall for me it's the best I normally twist the end so nothing leaks back as I normally use it for Italian meringue with it filled up almost completely.

How about parchment paper bags? Disposable and biodegradable. Wilton sells them in packs of 100 I think. 15 inch long.

I totally agree with the plastic piping bag, that is why I’m opting to use the silicone/re-usable piping bag, I think it would be manageable rather than throw away every single use of plastic piping bag. I came across your video and this is on point, thanks! Watched from Philippines! ❤️

Are the Wilton bags biodegradable? You said you’d just throw it away if any mold? Are they BPA free?

Wilton bags are NOT biodegradable, I don't even know if they would be recyclable. I think they are BPA free.

Thanks for the video. Yeah, I'm with you on the plastic disposables. My main concern is washing and value, ie how long will it last. In the years since, have you more to say on cleaning? Does the dish washer do a good job with the silicone?

How to reuse them for more liquidish stuff? Is there a closer tip/nozzle? I dont get how to pour mousse in there after the tip is cut off. Please advise.

I always put mine in some kind of a container, I find a 2 cup pyrex works well, or one of my blender smoothie jars. Maybe a 1 litre mason jar? Put your tip on, put the piping bag in the container, and use the rim of the container to hold it open while you fill it. Some will come out, but it'll just go into the bottom of the jar. If it's flowing out as much as you are putting it in, it's too liquid to pipe. Anything you are piping needs to be stiff enough to hold a shape.

@@Cookingbylaptopblog see i dont need a tip at all, I cut it usually and dispense, and i use 18" bags, cause mousse stabilizes very fast on agar agar powder. I just want to be able reuse, cannot figure how. Why they can't make a tip "stopper" ? You know.

@@helinochka Oh, I see. I would use a zip top bag in that case, but I wouldn't reuse it. I don't know that you can. Maybe you could clip the end with a binder clip while you fill it?

I think currently they are made of some kind of plastic (so nylon), but in the past the one I had was cotton, lined with plastic on the inside, and I quite liked it. It got gross and moldy after a while though, so I can understand why they discontinued them.

The silicone bag I bought has a really strong bitter taste on the outside. I don't know what kind of chemical it is but I don't want it in my frosting. Going to invest in legitimate traditional style bags.

Its a pretty common device that allows peoples brains an extra moment to synthesize their next sentence due to the mouth wanting to continue speaking. Yes, some people view it as a bad habit, but I guarantee anyone who thinks so has something just as annoying they do constantly. Lastly, if it annoys you, go away.
