Which Pokémon Deserve to Have Triple Types (Sinnoh)

The Pokémon from Sinnoh fall into two camps; they are either painfully one type only, or they have too many options on the table for dual types to cover. I mean Burmy alone could be four types! Just imagine what cool Pokémon could be like in a world with more than two elements allowed...

Funny story: when I battled Kahuna Olivia for the first time, I had only played Gens 1, 2, and the tail end of Gen 6 and when Probopass used thunder wave on me, I guessed it was an Electric type. I was wrong, but I still find it funny that it worked nevertheless.

Probol pass is probably the best one. He can switch in to one of his resistance and after the opponent switch out he can use the move magnet rise. Most likely your opponents is switch in a Pokemon with ground move. This will give you a extra turn to maybe set up

I personally think that Staraptor should have changed from Normal/Flying to Fighting/Flying upon evolving... But since it didn't, I think that triple type Normal/Flying/Fighting could be fun.

Empoleon makes the most sense for sure. Probopass too, it was always one I had to remind myself wasn't Electric for some reason. Only other suggestion I would have is the dark type for Giratina, purely based on the fact it was banished to the distortion world for violence, which fits the 'evil' side of the dark type

Some other Pokémon that have weaker arguments: Staraptor: Fighting (it only gets the one move.) Shieldon/Bastiodon: Dragon (It can learn all three elemental 90 power attacks, and I could see it benefits from more resists.) Drifblim: Fire (between aftermath and being a hot-air balloon used by the Fire Specialist…) Heatran: Ground (it does live under mountains after all) Just saying, even if they are weaker.

Alright, potential Sinnoh triple types! I totally agree with you about Empoleon considering it’s Pokedex entries always goes on about how it cleave through ice (That and it’s a clearly based off from a penguin) but I would have never guess the Flying type option too even though it makes complete sense since a penguin is technically a bird and it can use several Flying moves. Fun fact: One of my younger brother’s favorite Pokémon is also Empoleon but he thought it was a Water/Ice type for reasons I mentioned earlier. He was shocked to discover it was actually Water/Steel. The Duduo family is the *only* exception. Every other flightless bird in the franchise (including flightless regional forms of previously Flying types) has not gotten the Flying type nor the Levitate ability. (Also, Delibird *can* fly.)

The only problem with Yanmega is that dragonflies don't really have anything to do with dragons in Japanese. Why Flygon is a Dragon then, I have no idea. (yes Flygon is an antlion but those are commonly mistaken for dragonflies, so the point still stands)

I think to preserve Drapion's really good typing, it would be cool if it got some new signature ability that gives STAB to some or all of it's bug moves. A bit like how strong jaw can effectively give STAB to certain types like the dark type for moves like Crunch. It would give Drapion the offensive benefits without the defensive drawbacks

One way to kind of give Pokemon triple typing is to do like they did to dhelmise and give the pokemon who should have a triple typings an ability that boosts that typing, like a bug type steelworker for Drapion for example. That way it has stab om bug moves without actually being a bug type and have the bug types weaknesses

I'm doing some work on triple types myself amid these type rumors for Scarlet/Violet. So far the Steel/Dragon/Fairy and Flying/Electric/Steel combos are tied for the best. Each have only 1 weakness and 2 immunities. The S/D/F combo has 9 resistances with 2 of them being super resistant while the F/E/S combo has 8 resistances with 4 super resistant.

Personally, I think as a strong physical attacker, Mamoswine makes more sense as a fighting type, if you were to give it a third typing. I think it would fare a bit better as well, as fighting is a better type than rock.

1. Mamoswine getting the Rock type would ruin it defensively. While yes, its an offensive beast with semi-decent defensive typing and amazing offensive STABs, getting the Rock type wouldnt do much other than, as you stated, tack on a 4x weakness to Steel, Fighting, Grass, AND Water. 2. I genuinely agree with Probopass getting the Electric typing, it makes a lot of sense especially since it can evolve with a Thunder Stone in PLA. Just hoping it can still do that in later Gens like Magnezone and Vikavolt. The only problem is the new 8x weakness to Ground, but it can get away with an Air Balloon or even getting the Levitate ability in place of another ability like Sand Force. I would say Magnezone should get Levitate too but since they both get Magnet Rise i understand why they dont have it. 3. Honestly id say Yanmega shouldnt get the Dragon type as a 3rd type, but instead REPLACING its Flying type with Dragon. Itll lose its Flying STAB but Dragon is probably a little more valuable as a type overall, and it wouldnt have to deal with that 4x Ice weakness along with a Stealth Rock one too. 4. Empoleon probably didnt get the Ice typing for a good reason, whether it be in line with the other Sinnoh starters or its wings are straight up as strong as Steel. Ice would end up weighing it down a bit, but the extra Ice STAB would be useful. 5. Idk how good Glyscor would be with the Dark type in competitive but it may not be as good as it seems, as Fairy is currently one of the best types in the game offensively. Being weak to Fairy is not very good, and the 4x Ice weakness and minimal resistances are more than enough to justify why its so good but also keep it in balance and not topple over too far down too fast the road. 6. Drapion makes sense to me why it gets Bug, but it kinda brings it down obviously. Bug isnt the best typing in the game, and since it only has 1 normal weakness without the Bug type already makes it a very good defensive type. Bug would just make it a little worse since its weaker to more prevalent types

The Penguin Pok'emon I actually think should just be Water/Ice. I'm not sure why it even has the Steel type to begin with and since penguins are actually flightless birds not only is it not deserving of the flying type but it should be incapable of learning flying type moves. I generally would advocate that any Pok'emon with wings or can levitate should be Flying type but that's not the case here because it's "wings" are actually more like fins. Again penguins are known in real life to be incapable of flight. Gliscore just like his previous form I think should be Bug/Flying/Poison. I could see a case to be made for the Dark type but going that rute I think literally any Noctural Pok'emon could be given the Dark Type. This would include all Owl and Bat Pok'emon which Gligar and Gliscore kind of are as well... I mean he looks like a Bat/Scorpion hybrid. As for the other Scorpion you mentioned after this... I don't see a reason why his type would even change as it evolves. Either it should always be Bug/Poison or always be Bug/Poison/Dark. I don't think the Dark type is really a nessicary add on, it can work but isn't needed like Bug and Poison are. Also I'm surpised you don't think the Lake Trio are deserving of another type... the LAKE trio... NONE OF THEM ARE WATER TYPE! They are also the most boring Trio ever made in my opinion as they're all exactly the same. I think they could keep their existing Psychic Type, add the Water type so that them being the Lake Trio actually makes sense and then give them each a unique 3rd type so that they actually stand out more against each other rather than just being identical triplets. I HATE the Lake Trio. Also wanted to mention the Gibble line which should be Water Type because they're hammer head sharks but they're Dragon/Dark type instead. And I don't even really think they should be Dragon. Maybe Ground type because they actually have legs to move around on land unlike Sharpeedo who is also Water/Dark.

This video is basically saying: „Just because you COULD add a 3rd type, it doesn‘t mean that you SHOULD!“. A lot, if not all combinations in this video make the Pokemon significantly weaker. Also: You should generally avoid combining rock and ground and it doesn‘t even make sense for Mamoswine because mammoths aren‘t old enough to be fossils. If anything, it should get the tar-type. As for rock…half the rock types in gen 1 are ground types and all it does is worsening their weakness against grass and water. Two of the DEFAULT types in every regular game!

Scorpions aren't bugs. Scorupi didn't need to be Bug anyway, but what else would it be? Besides, Drapion is the "OGRE SCORPION", Ogre--like a Troll or Giant. Giving it an additional "Bug" Type makes it less intimidating and makes 0 sense. Could easily have added the Fighting Type because Drapion is super territorial and commands hordes of Scorupi to do its bidding. Im sorry but adding ice to empoleon would be absolutely awful. You say that it would still have water to deal with a now weakness to fire types and a stab ice to deal with it’s weakness to ground, but it already has stab water to do that. Being a penguin isn’t a great reason to give it an ice typing either. 14 out of the 18 species live in temperate to warm climates.

If you are going to put weaknesses and resistances you need to put titles above them, instead of just separating them. I said this on a previous video. It just makes things more clear, rather than putting weaknesses under a giant "GROUND" and resistances under "ICE" for example on Mamoswine

So from the first one an old pokemon just has to be rock type yea so rock is the old type from now on geodude must be centuarys old. like no mamoswine should not be rock and relicanth is just rock type because its skin is rock not just because its old.

Instead of triple types, how about intra-regional diversity? Say for example Empoleon carries the potential for both ice and water, or steel and water typing. So with intra-regional diversity each piplup egg has a 50-50 chance of being either water/ice type or water/steel type. That would be fun 🤷‍♂️
