Honestly, the lazy prep list was so helpful for me to get my head around session prep. I tend to skip outlining potential scenes, but everything else proves very useful for me.

That's funny, I rarely skip potential scenes! Maybe I've just noticed that my players tend to need a bit of direction of where to go, or at least I can kind of sense what they want to be doing next session.

Thanks for the tips. Two questions: -- How does outlining potential scenes stand up to player agency? How would you react if your characters go in a direction that you hadn't expected or planned? (Especially important for sandbox settings/campaigns such as Curse of Strahd.) -- Any extra steps for creating the campaign/adventure setting? If it's a homebrew setting, where would you begin? (I know start small, but anything else?)

The list is really helpful for planning a session, but it doesn't really help me much when plotting long campaign arcs. What I tend to do is write myself into a corner and spend too much time getting out of it than prepping for a session. Any help on that would be appreciated! Too many NPCs, loose ends, undefined beats, getting the pace right, reusing too many old plots.

The secrets and clues step is such a great tool. Sometimes I have an idea for the session and I'll start to think of secrets and clues, and the last two or three will completely change the original direction I was going for.
