I have both. To me, the OLED to LCD is not a downgrade. The Vita 1000 came out in a time when OLED screens were in their infancy and the 1000 I bought is in PERFECT condition which I purchased pre-owned loose from GameStop back in 2016. Flawless and no scratches or chips. The downside is the screen burn on the OLED screen. Very noticeable. So I purchased a 2000 to preserve my 1000. I don’t use it at all. The LCD will last much longer and to me the OLED removal doesn’t really reduce gameplay. Also the downside of the 1000 is the proprietary cable!! It was a NIGHTMARE trying to find a third party cable that would charge and transfer data. All the ones I found only charged but were missing the pin that supports data transfer. I finally found one on Amazon and purchased extras just in case the OEM takes a shit. You can’t find OEM cables for 1000 loose. I tried. On the other hand with 2000 it’s a micro usb which there are a plethora of them available that will charge and transfer data.
@hagoromootsutski90582 жыл бұрын
This is the one comment that doesn’t reek of copium by 1000 owners. My main concern is preserving the life of my handheld consoles, and after watching the video, I agree that you aren’t losing a lot going with the lcd screen. You don’t have to worry about burn-in, but more importantly, like you said, lcd screens have a much longer lifespan compared to oled. I’d also argue the extra hour of battery life is also a noticeable upgrade; less charging and if battery degrades overtime you have one hour to make up for it. Plus the lightweight feel is awesome, and the ‘less premium feel’ actually makes it a viable option for portable gaming and ease of mind. With the 1000, it feels like I’m holding a iPhone 13 without a screen, and also heavier on the hands.

Really thorough breakdown. I thought I wouldn't like the transition between the 1000 and the 2000 due the latter not having an OLED screen but the other changes they implemented made a world of difference. I share your sentiment that the 2000 is just so much more comfortable than the 1000. The flat top of the vita 1000 along with its weight made long play sessions more tiring. Reducing the back touchpad area in the 2000 also prevented me from accidentally activating it in games that made use of it. My cat knocked my vita 2000 off my desk but i was pleasantly relieved that it was still intact meanwhile my 1000 fell off the bed and even with a case and screen protector the glass managed to crack. I'm not knocking the 1000 i loved it when i had it because i really wanted one since day 1. I went through 3 vita 1000 and 2 vita TV's before settling on 2000 model and now it's kinda my favorite handheld next to my switch and n3dsxl.

Just as a sidenote, despite all of its benefits, the OLED screen might become an issue in a couple of years if you use your device heavily. There is a ton of coverage by now of the so-called mura effect all OLED screens suffer from as a part of their inherent design (just search for "mura oled vita"), burn-in effects and loss of overall contrast. This might even be a reason why the PS Vita 2000 might be the better option in terms of longevity, but only time will really tell for sure.

The issue with the proprietary cable isn't the inconvenience of having more cables, it's getting a replacement when the cable eventually breaks. Also, the OLED isn't really strictly a benefit, I bought my Vita 1000 at launch and the screen has gotten super dim over the years, which is a common occurence with early OLED panels.

I bought my 2000 almost immediately after it quietly entered the us market cause it was pretty cheap relative to the phat at the time. I’m usually a phat PlayStation kind of person, with the psp and ps2 being examples, but I like the fact that it has internal memory, better battery life, and an lcd screen instead of oled (I know it doesn’t look as good but lcds use less power and are cheaper to replace and more reliable to begin with). I also find it more comfortable to hold, but the 1000 did have a better build quality. It’s overall more streamlined and modern and uses usb instead of that proprietary shit. I love the 2000 I recently broke it back out and installed a permanent jailbreak as opposed to the h encore I was running for years. Overclocking makes it so much better to play lol

Both are absolutely awesome! I love both. I always reach for my phat Vita, though. The screen is just better and all the other stuff is incredibly minor. The 2000 is lighter, but it also feels less sturdy in your hands. It’s very plasticky feeling, like a toy. Having a micro usb is good, but the proprietary cable is so cheap and doesn’t actually affect gameplay. I don’t think this should be a deciding factor. I don’t notice much difference in battery life, but I never let my handhelds run until they’re dead so that’s probably why. The one thing that the Vita 2000 has that actually matters is colors. It comes in a lot of cool colors that aren’t hard to find. The phat Vita does have color variations besides black, but they aren’t as cheap or easy to find.

@Destructor80316 ай бұрын
The vita slim is mostly downgrades and 2 min or upgrades and that's better battery life and a standard Micro USB port. The 1000 as we all know has a gorgeous OLED display, it also has better build quality, it feels like it was built to last and it also has higher quality hall effect analogue sticks which the 2000 lacks. Jailbreaking the 1000 no longer requires a memory card as the internal flash can be repartitioned to the same layout as the 2000 to get the same 1GB internal storage, it can actually be repartition to get over 2GB. At this point Imo its only really worth getting a Vita if you intend to jailbreak it and with the improvements made to this there is no difference in convenience between the two really. Here's my summary: Performance: tie Screen: 1000 Size & Weight: 2000 (some people do actually prefer the extra weight and thickness of the 1000) Convenience: 2000, this is because as you say the the charging port but now even micro B is becoming less common and you can get cheap aftermarket cables for the 1000, as for battery life, no one really is gonna sit down and play on one of these for a straight 5+ hours, Also when you jailbreak either one now you can repartition and you don't need an memory card Battery life: 2000 build quality/feel : 1000 Longevity: 1000 I'm adding this one because the 1000 is built from higher quality components, for example the analogue sticks are hall effect basically making them immune to drift, that's not the case with the 2000. the 2000 was not really built to last, its a revised model that was designed with the intention of reducing the price as well as manufacturing costs and they also added a bunch of colour options to make it appeal to more people. So for me its a tie.

Still have my 1000 from launch - I remember pre-ordering it and even dreaming about it the week prior to release - LOL. I loved my PSP so much but was incredibly psyched for the Vita and then I couldn't get my 2 favorite games for it until I finally modded it like 2 weeks ago.

Got a white japanese import 2000 and I love it. I think everything about it looks great and I personally feel it's more ergonomic than the 1000 model. That said I always spent time with the 2000 model, so I may be a bit biased. Btw I got the registry edit upgrade too. edit: I got the glacier white model. I think it looks beautiful.

Ordered mine glacier white yesterday from Japan as well! What about the quality of yours? Does it have any signs of usage? Can't wait to get mine 🕹️

@@nicklascazares right away the big difference you’ll notice is that unlike Americans in general Japanese people actually take care of their system. I got two pre owned vitas one in the state and the other from overseas and the difference is night and day. Regarding the color, I think it looks beautiful. I use it without a case cause it’s much more comfortable. I think it’s as simple as just checking if your hands are clean before playing and that’s it really. For my system it did come with there some yellowing in the VOL letters for volume, that doesn’t really phase me though. It’s possible that other parts may yellow over time but so far it still looks great. Some wear and tear over time is inevitable, all you can do is just try your best to keep things clean.

@@sup3r-d4n1-bg Hey! Yes, and it is amazing! It is almost in perfect condition (a few very light scratches on the screen, barely visible tbh) and the body is just perfect. All the buttons are perfect, battery is in a good condition. I play it every day :)

i've got two OLED Vitas and love them. i replaced the screen on one of them and it was pretty easy to do, plus some of the sellers on Ali Express sell genuine OEM OLED screens for around £14 only!

@@RetroGameCorps how to mod your PSVita 2000 with an OEM OLED screen video coming? 🥰
@sethdubois3183 жыл бұрын
I bought my 1000 at release, but it had been collecting dust until your recent series. It's now fully modded and I'm taking advantage of having enough storage space. Even today, I can't get over how beautiful the screen is. I also think the proprietary plug has actually kept me from losing it over time. If it had a micro USB, I would have long ago pilfered it to use for some other device. Micro USBs just disappear in my house. I was just looking at white 2000s on Amazon the other day. I do like the look of that device a lot. I don't know that I really want or need another one, though.

I got a silicone sleeve for my 1000 series and it really helps protect my device. I suggest others do the same. I got mine in blue which looks great in contrast with black.

If you're going to store away something with a built in battery. Make sure you take it out, turn it on, drain till about 40%, and recharge it every couple of months to keep the cells alive..

I prefer PSV 2000 (slim) *BECAUSE* -while it has no Oled + It's not "over-saturated" LCD, if modded it has a software LCD color fixer that makes it really look better +Slim is OLEDs-burn-in's resistant + it has longer battery life + micro USB charging port which is easier to solve if a cable breaks or gets lost on your trip + lighter and thinner + more ergonomic design
@gravysamich3 жыл бұрын
i laughed a bit when you brought out the calipers to measure the devices. if you need a precision instrument like that to tell the size differences, then the difference is so little you wouldn't notice it. it isnt like an extra millimeter will be the breaking point that keeps someone from getting it. still though, quality content. keep up the amazing work! gotta get me one of these.

Haha, yeah the calipers are ridiculous and I use them every chance I can get :)

I am willing to sacrifice slightly worse screen for standard charging cable and lighter portability..... battery life is about 30% better as well. I opted for a 2000, but I recently got a 1000 for 71 dollars without a charging cable (of course) I hope it works. It didn't mention if it was tested. (FINGERS CROSSED) Very nice breakdown though thanks Russ

For which one to buy, the answer is both. I got two PS Vita 1000s send hand (B class). Love the weight and OLED screens, but I don't let those glass covered faces out the house. For outside I just just took delivery of a Glacier white PS Vita 2000 with black thumbsticks (just like at the end of this video). They are both beautiful pieces of tech. The slim fits much better in the pocket with a soft sleeve. For any Parents who want to play minecraft with their 7 year old, but don't want them playing with a mobile phone, two vitas in ad hoc mode are awesome. I got two 2nd Hand Vita 1000s and two 2nd hand minecraft games for 215 USD. Those two consoles can link to each other and provide local multiplayer Minecraft WITHOUT an internet connection, WITH OLED screens. For ten year old tech, that is pretty baller.

note that the 1000 also has internal memory, it just isn't accessible, but you can use it if you hack it it even has a bit more storage than the 2000
@wing0zero3 жыл бұрын
The 2000 Vita is probably more colour accurate, the Oled will be trying to fill the SRGB colour space with the P3 range leading to over saturation, some prefer that pop it gives though so it's personal preference.
@ss_lemonade3 жыл бұрын
I've seen a lot of comparison images online in the past and they always showed the 2000 looking way too warm. blog.apolo1192.net/wp-content/uploads/DSC02043.jpg www.oled-info.com/files/structured-data/psvita-lcd-vs-oled.jpg i.ytimg.com/vi/vW7TzE9LnBQ/maxresdefault.jpg Don't know if that's better or not. Russ' video here also seems to show the same, somewhat
@Whatnoww3 жыл бұрын
What makes you think it's trying to do anything with the P3 range at all? The screen is calibrated for sRGB.
@SirinGaming3 жыл бұрын
the colorspace and most of the games have been developed around the 1000's OLED screen though. so even if the screen is "not color accurate" most of the games have their intended colors by the developers. compared to the 2000 which can't sadly replicate the OLED screen colors, the games end up looking more washed out and not color accurate to what the developers intended.
@wing0zero3 жыл бұрын
@@Whatnoww OLED is a wide gamut panel, unless it has a SRGB clamp then it will try to fill the wide gamut, now you can get a expensive 1K+ wide gamut monitor that doesn't even have a SRGB clamp, you sure Sony bothered on a relatively cheap hand held device 🤷
@sebastiancaceres72773 жыл бұрын
I've got both and every time i played on the 2000 i feel I'm playing on a much cheaper device and the screen is definitely worst than 1000. if you never played on a 1000 before the 2000 its fine but having both you can feel the difference.
