Which pulley wheel goes where (Shimano and Sram jockey wheels explained)

Jockey wheels on aderailleur always come on pairs. But which pulley wheel goes where? Find the difference between Shimano and Sram top and bottom jockey wheels.

Is direction of rotation important?

Hi! Thank you for your question, and I apologise for the delayed response. It can vary-some pulleys are directional while others are not. If you see an arrow on the pulley, it's important to install it in the correct orientation. I hope this helps.🙂

Can you use 12spd pulley wheel on a 11spd Shimano Rear derailleur? Without issues with shifting etc...

Hi, thanks for your question. For full compatibility, I wouldn’t recommend using 12-speed pulleys on an 11-speed derailleur. Hope this helps

Hi, thanks for your question and apologies for not getting back to you sooner (summer holiday duties). The guide pulley and tension pulley are specifically positioned based on the geometry of the derailleur, the angles at which the chain travels, and the sizes of the cogs on the cassette. Switching their positions could result in improper chain alignment, poor shifting, increased chain wear, and even potential damage to the components.
