I received two Uv K5(8) yesterday. Great fun with my son too on PMR shhhh :D

Personally I find the blue backlight of the 5+ a bit irritating in the dark, on the other hand, it can be modded with a piece of green glow-in-the-dark tape underneath the screen, that'll make the color more of a turquoise one, and will help with battery life too. The orange backlight on the K6 is more pleasant to my eyes, and I've found the audio on it to be less muddy. But the orange LED won't charge the glowtape as good as the blue one :)

Thanks for this comparison. Wondering if the 5+ battery modded to remove those tabs would work on the 5/5(8)/6, or if there's something different with the charging circuits.

It will, I have both K6 and 5+ and have tested that. Works fine with built-in USB charge socket, too.

The orange knob is just a tadd more visible when in very bad light surroundings... and it does a good job at medium distance recognition... you know it is a k5!

The UV-5R+ doesn't have a usb port, so no backup usb charging possible. There is also a UV-5R+ with 8W power output, i've bought one and it states on the sticker, on the back and i measured more output compared to the average from the other 5W versions i have.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realise there was an 8W version of the 5R+. Yeah that's true about the USB socket, although Quansheng recommended not using it for charging. Thanks for watching 👍

@@m7frs272 Thats why i say the USB is a backup charge solution. From what i read its ok to charge via usb every once in a while, as it doesn't balance charge both cells. Only using the usb will eventually create unbalance in the battery. The Docking Charger will fix the unbalance. So its ok for emergency only.

if you get the orange k6 you have also a blue screen,lol instead of the orange screen i hate on the k5.8 hahaha

uv k5 (8) hiss , sucks no good for hearing!! so i like the radtel rt 600=a rebadged qaunsheng uv5r plus.. so far it beats the k6 on rx,, the repeaters on tx and the screen is easier on the eyes than orange for long periods! love the k5 too that is my go to radio.. it was what i would expect from 30 bucks on amazon,it was a radio i used to compare others for certain expctations, that and the radtel are the best so far i cant really find a palce where the rt600 does better but it is got way louder audio of you work in a large area... too bad it so hard to find a solo quansheng uv5rplus on scamazon.. the radtel is basically identical i think.. maybe some internal upgrades i can't confirm if you get a chance check one out! it wont be 25 bucks wasted...

Thanks, that's interesting you say the Radtel is better as I would assume the only difference was the name sticker on the front. I'll certainly check one out if I get a chance. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

@@m7frs272 it has a blue board internally aswell! as shows rev 16 not 14 like the k5 and 6s ive had .. so its even newer than k6 so far.. since i typed you this! i have literally bought 2 more just to board swap into a few k5s and another for a friend , yes the new rev 1.16 is not the same as these k6 from 2023.. these are a new updated design i believe.
