Hello Ben, Having tried mounting SMDs, I know that it is not easy. However, there are small hot air soldering stations with adjustable temperature and several nozzle diameters which make this operation easier. Now, if I were you, I would have fixed the printed circuit with tape, which would then leave you two free hands on a stationary part. I was afraid for some components that you heated a lot, but if you tested and everything works, it is very good. Maybe it is me who is afraid for nothing. Thanks for your video with my best 73's Michel - F4IBP

I bought it mainly for the addition of Airband radio frequencies. It’s a nice full featured radio, but let’s be honest here. All these radios are far too small. Built and made for a collected hand and fingers. Need to make this same full featured radio in the H8 size. Trying to use the keypad is an exercise in frustration, much less reading the keys

@@CHIPSpeaking I somehow knew I'd get a sad ham reply to me calling you out for being incorrect. And yes, you are 100% incorrect as I have multiple radios purchased new off Amazon that will transmit on both ham and GMRS. In short, I don't care what you *think* things should be like...they are not that way all the time. Most radios adhere to this but there are some that do not (Baofeng included). If you go from a nickel cadmium (1990's) technology to a lithium rechargeable battery, you have a much higher energy density and extra space around the battery. Put on a detonator, but label it a "battery temperature monitor", and fill that extra space around the battery with an explosive.

-You're right about the activation being sent to a group address, but triggering an explosion with just that would not give the Israelis the ability to choose the time. _Any group message_ would lead to an explosion. I suspect the Israelis *modified the pager's firmware* to trigger the explosive only when a specific text message came in. It would be interested to know what it was. -And the Israelis may have taken advantage of a pager-like feature with the ICOM IC-V82. To spare users having the squelch go off with any incoming signal, it can be configured to only open the squelch, meaning trigger the explosive, when a specific touchtone code came in on the listening frequency. -Some news sources are claiming that company in Hungary that licensed from Taiwan making and selling a copy of this pager actually made them in a factory with these new features. That's most unlikely. Setting up a factory to make an exact copy would have cost a lot of money and taken a great deal of time when all that was needed was buy this pager or a clone of it on the open market and modify it, altering the firmware and adding that tiny bit of explosive, perhaps concealed as you noted as typical electronic component.

What do the F numbers in front of the frequences mean? On yours it says F2 for the upper and F6 for the lower and when you've typed the frequency the lower changes to F3. Also, the lower doesn't display AM. How do you change that?
@m7frs272
@m7frs272 10 күн бұрын
Good question and well spotted! The F number, refers to which block or band of frequencies that frequency is in when in VFO mode. So the lowest frequencies 18Mhz to 107Mhz are in F1. F2 is 108 to 136, F3 is 137 to 173... and so on. (Hope that makes sense) The radio will only show AM if you're on Airband frequencies or if you have upgraded the firmware and can change it manually in the menu. Thanks for watching 👍

@m7frs272
@m7frs272 10 күн бұрын
Good question! Basically it changes the VHF FM broadcast receiver circuit (which usually receives from 87 to 108Mhz FM) into a HF (High frequency) shortwave receiver which can receiver from 100Khz to 30Mhz AM and USB/LSB (upper and lower sideband). Thanks for watching 👍
@Ni5ei
@Ni5ei 13 күн бұрын
I'm a total noob and don't know where to start. You explain things very clearly. However, what if you don't have a port or airfield nearby? I really don't know what to google for to get exact radio frequenties I can listen to. I was hoping there would be an easy way to just scan for transmissions and lock in on them just like you can do with the FM radio stations. (F0)
@m7frs272
@m7frs272 10 күн бұрын
It is possible to search for frequencies by setting the radio on a particular frequency when in VFO (frequency) mode, and pressing and holding the 'scan' key for a second. The radio will start to search and you can use the up/down arrows to set the direction. However, it is quite possible to miss activity frequencies, as unlikely FM broadcast your not necessarily looking for a continuous transmission. Depending on what country your in, you may find nationality used frequency for say GMRS/FRS or PMR 446 etc.. Hope that's helpful and thanks for watching 👍

Hi Ron. Good question. Basically what makes this radio so popular (other that the very low cost) is the ability to be used with custom, third party firmware. This allows all sorts of possibilities including receiving a much wider range of the radio spectrum as we as much better AM airband reception. Lots of other features can be included. Some of which I've covered in other videos. Thanks for watching 👍 kzbin.info/aero/PLXMfFSysu4iw5AGEOeiiKB09-MI5DWmyn&si=l5QObfN29hzKnoAd
