I'm sure by now you've probably figured it out, but on the baofeng website there's a download page for all their cps softwares, and as somebody mentioned below, they have a k6 software out now. It's the super generic one line at a time type that's so frustrating when you're used to chirp, but in the top tabs it's got all the settings like the frequency locks you have discovered here. I messed with them a bit because I couldn't get 462 to work, but found on US fcc then unlock all the tick boxes for 220, am, and 440 bands, after that I'm able to make everything work. Somebody said k6 is due up to be put on chirp shortly, not sure if that's the case or not, but when it does it should support this radio and my k61 as well. Keep up the good work!

Years back, I've had the first KG-UV920P, and that was a great radio! The speaker in the mic piece added a nice touch to the radio overall. The latest model KG-UV980* seems to have a pretty wobbly knogb, the one on the right?

I got one of these Baofeng UV-25 radios recently and love it! Managed a couple of QSOs through the ISS crossband repeater using the gooseneck antenna, standing just outside my front door! I also uploaded a personalised power on picture which comes up when I switch it on. Very nice radio. de EI2KC

Thank you for the very informative video. I'm at a loss as to which one to pick, and just doing research right now. The radios aren't even for me really, but a friend who asked me to do them a favor. They've been told that one of these firmware's will allow these radios to TX in the HF bands without any modifications other than changing the firmware and using a special version of CHIRP. They're not looking for superior performance, just enough for very short range communication, basically with the other station standing right next to her. I've joined one of the FB groups for the radio and have been told it can't happen. Is this true or isn't it? Before anyone gives me a big speech as to why this shouldn't be attempted, I know the consequences and caveats of even attempting to TX in the HF bands with one of these. But like I said it isn't for me and I take no responsibility for what they may do with these radios. Like I said I'm only doing a favor for someone that isn't comfortable with flashing custom firmware's into radios. Any clarification on this would be greatly appreciated. I need to know before I even attempt to pick IJV or Egzoomer. Thanks

Very new to ham radio. So here goes a silly Q , could I mount an external antenna to the top of my house to use with the Baofeng UV 25 and would it make a better distance. If so what antenna would work?

If you set the mode to "Normal" on startup can you add the Air Bands? May work by going out of HAM mode.

If you have the UK short range certificate, how can you use it abroad? For example, if you go to Europe and take a boat through their canals does your UK license cover you, do you need an international license, or do you need one license per country?

I am waiting for my ham radio license to be revived. Which, if any, public un-licensed channels can you use on this? Are there any which are legal to use with the low power mode of the Quansheng UV K5 (8)?

I think we're actually quite close in terms of location, but I've not had as much luck at getting chatter. I have an RT5R which is essentially a Boafeng and its quiet out there. I upgraded the antenna to a 3.5ft one and i think it made the reception worse. Perhaps I'll look at this one. In theory i should get air traffic as the planes come roght over.
