Daphne and Fred being a stable couple has so much more room for comedy, like how their friends are always there when they're trying fo be romantic, even if they're on a romantic holiday. And Fred doesn't understand what Daphne wants for her birthday but she ends up liking his weird wacky contraption because it's cute that he tried. Fred gets captured and is being lowered over a lava pit but hes completely unconcerned because his girlfriend is batman and it starts to scare the villain.

@@normalpeoplelikeme I object to the use of Bug to mean "true bugs" as that group of insects have other names, and 90% of the English speaking population use the definition referring to all small invertebrates. Basically just because nobody is using "bug" to mean "true bugs" as the venn diagram of (people who can both correctly name the order to which true bugs belong and identify any given insect as part of that order) and (people who would just use the more precise species names to avoid ambiguity) is a circle. Essentially, as a word to describe all small invertebrates that vaguely resemble true bugs it has a clear use and purpose as a stand all word used in a context where the actual species is not known nor important. Whereas, as a word used to describe specific insects that most people can't identify and those who can would use a more precise word for, it is a completely useless word.
@normalpeoplelikeme
@normalpeoplelikeme 9 ай бұрын
@@alexjames7144 Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that you changing it arbitrarily has any weight. Scorpions and spiders are arachnids, get over it. And people do not use "bug" as a catch-all word for small invertebrates, because that would include microscopic invertebrates, I've never met anyone who's looked at a tardigrade and said "That's a bug." Now that's a very specific example, and my experiences are personal and very limited, but my overall point still stands.
@alexjames7144
@alexjames7144 9 ай бұрын
@@normalpeoplelikeme I have personally seen many people refer to them as bugs, I'm not changing it arbitrarily myself based on personal preference. That's just how it's used. I also did specify that it's usually invertebrates vaguely similar to true bugs that get called bugs, you're just being pedantic. I do vet med, we study a lot of parasites, some of which are true bugs and some of which aren't. They all get called bugs, even sometimes by the lecturers because it's not a particularly scientific term so it doesn't matter if it's not used with the original definition in mind. And nobody ever felt the need to be pedantic and cry about them not being true bugs. Definitions change over time, with the general use of a word. It's not even specific to scorpions and arachnids, invertebrates are diverse and true bugs make up a small percentage even just of all insects. The exact line of what are and aren't true bugs isn't universally agreed, because scientists have better things to do and the word is a loose descriptor that they don't use in academic settings.

Shaggy being into mystery solving and/or the horror genre, in general, is a character trait that is not utilized in nearly enough. He can still be an anxious mess while there is a threat lurking around, but when he is comfortable and in a safe location, he should be the one throwing out Reddit conspiracy theories and horror B-movie trivia that make him sound insane, but actually turn out to aid in solving the case.

Disagree on making Daphne as into booby traps as Fred. Okay so hear me out, they're a booby trapping couple, but Fred's the one who's really into it while Daphne is there because she likes sharing Fred's passion and doing something together. She DOESN'T secretly hate trapping, she's legitimately having a fun time, but the fun is from spending time with her significant other, not the traps, that's actual healthy couple energy. If Daphne is alone, she'll skip the traps and go for a straight up garrotte or something suitably casually Murder-Daphne with an air of casualness about it that both makes it clear she's not "just putting up with" the traps, but also is a little bit of a psychopath.
@PineappleLiar
@PineappleLiar 2 жыл бұрын
I can imagine a joke set up where Daphne helps Fred put up this comically impossible trap to stop the villain, but she knows it won’t work. And the whole episode stops being about catching the villain and more about setting up a secret plan under the much goofier plan to make it ‘seem’ like Fred’s trap caught the bad guy, when in actuality it was Daphne behind the scenes making sure everything went as planned.

@@armedjaquar It's pretty common in scooby doo for the trap to not work the first time and more often than not from what I remember not work the way they wanted it to the second time, trending twords everyone but Fred working around the trap not working in a way that makes it work, then Fred is happy. This kind of energy would work really well both with Murder Daphne and with Skillmonkey Shaggy, because there are plenty of niche skills that you could deus ex into looping back around into making a failed trap an accidentally successful one, or to make a modular trap that Shaggy can control dynamically via marionette strings because he has a weird puppet hobby going on or can contact juggle odd objects and that control over throwing weird stuff lets him chuck something with a weird arc right into a lynchpin in a trap that failed, or throwing his voice to cause a quick moment of confusion and distraction if they notice the trap isn't properly set up, fun stuff like that where he can save the day while Daphne fixes the trap that Fred is too much of a himbo to realize there's a flaw in. In the trap making and springing dynamic I don't see obsessively dorky Velma contributing much other than calculations, predictions based on probability, suggesting that a rope have an anti-ghost lacquer on it that causes the trap to break in the first place just because she wanted to make sure that if it was a ghost they couldn't phase their way through anything, and being unwitting bait or a catalyst for the trap itself if they wanna make like a glue bomb that traps them and Velma's so enamored by the ghost that she's actually chasing the capitalist in a mask because she wants to get a closer look at the specimen and he doesn't wanna be caught. It has potential but honestly you can't really overuse these things or else Velma becomes more of a problem addition that enables crazier and more unlikely Fred traps while ruining perfectly good ones since the ghost, ghoul, or furry probably isn't going to be real unless it's a movie.

I think the most important thing you need to do with the Mystery Inc. characters is to make them all like each other. These guys are a group of very weird teenagers with a niche interest that nobody else has who also are absolutely insane and go digging into capitalist hoaxes with their big cute talking dog because they're obsessed. They like each other more than anybody else because they get each other. Everybody else puts up with Shaggy being a stoner or Fred being a himbo or Daphne being a bloodthirsty girlboss or Velma having no social awareness or Scooby being a DOG THAT FREAKING TALKS because they like each other and they understand each other in a way nobody else does. Any Mystery Inc. that doesn't feel like friends is not a real Mystery Inc. in my brain. Another great reason to watch Mystery Incorporated. Nobody else in this town likes them. Okay, maybe like four other weirdly mystery obsessed people like them, but for the most part everybody else is weirded out at best and actively malicious at worst. They are friends.

I would like to say this goes without saying (of course theyre friends, theyre "the gang", why would they even hang around together all the time if they didnt like each other?), but the Velma series has proven this is an important clarification. You know, I would like a Velma who dedicated her life to proving ghosts are real, but has become so disillusioned by the constant fake ghost reveals that she stops getting her hopes up, but you can tell that deep down she still believes in ghosts and wants so hard to prove their existence. One thing about Daphne that I always thought could be utilised more is her interest in fashion. A hobby like that implies knowledge on fabrics and measurements. While Fred makes the traps and Velma is looking to establish a motive, Daphne could be the one who figures out how the monster costume operates and who could be wearing it. Thus proving that girly things can be useful, which is an overdone message, but still effective.

Elle Woods shows this in the beginning of “Legally Blonde”, she asks about a particular stitching for a dress the saleswoman tries to scam her into buying. Add salt, pepper, red pepper flake, the juice from half a lime, and a little bit of olive oil. Get 2/3 strips of bacon and cut them into small pieces with some meat shears. fry them up nice and crispy and let them cool for a few minutes on a paper towel. Start toasting the bread while the bacon is cooling. Simply spread the avocado onto the toast and then sprinkle the bacon on top of it. Sometimes ill fry up an egg or 2 as well. you should have enough avocado spread for 2 maybe 3 servings. The lime juice will keep the avocado fresh and green.

It’s hilarious to make Daphne the girly-girl also be the most intense member of the group. She’s got batman money and training, and splurges it on dresses, ghost tours, and high heels that work in combat. You could also have Daphne and Fred in the beginning stages of that loving relationship, where they are clearly meant for each other but are still working out the boundaries. Get that whole “Will he still love me if I break a man’s leg?” Kind of thing.
@Superflaming85
@Superflaming85 3 жыл бұрын
I think that whole relationship between Fred and Daphne could also work even better if they balance Daphne's angle of being too intense with Fred being the exact opposite and having no idea how the whole "boyfriend" thing works but just trying his best because it's Fred. So you have scenes of Fred reading romance novels and trying to learn to be a 'traditional' boyfriend, while Daphne just could not give less of a shit and is just happy to do the things she likes with Fred. Meanwhile, you have scenes of Daphne beating up a bunch of guys and being worried about what Fred thinks, only to have him giving her a thumbs-up with a big smile. And then to counteract Daphne's intensity, both are "good" in a fight, but while Daphne is due to being super skilled and badass, Fred is just a pure himbo cinnamon roll that bumbles his way to victory. Like, someone tries to sneak up on him, but he just went shopping with Daphne, so he suddenly turns around and knocks the guy down with a bag full of shoes. Then he bends down to help, while the attacker tries to get up, resulting in a KO and his "victory" when they bonk heads. Give Fred old Daphne's clumsiness, but instead of it being what gets him into situations, it's what gets him out of them.

Velma needs to be a socially awkward, but extremely booksmart, scholar who has a fascination for the supernatural (gets disappointed when she realizes it's just "some guy in a mask" can be an occasional gag). Shaggy needs to be a coward that enjoys a good spook and stress eats to help cope with a high metabolism and a bunch of adrenaline. Scooby needs to a smart, loyal, and goofy dog who does get scared easily.

I gotta love that Mystery Incorporated Fred has an IQ of 3 and yet based on the traps he's created: - Has a very clear and indepth knowledge of college level physics -An extremely intelligent engineer and master in multiple forms of engineering including chemical, electrical, mechanical, and more -Has an supernatural grasp of spatial awareness to the point where he can use every ounce of space around him to his advantage to set up trapping mechanisms -Is an expert in probability due to the fact some of the mechanisms won't work unless something else is set off -Extremely clever and resourceful

This is giving me an idea for an episode where Fred is struggling with something like taxes or some other thing that needs thinking and brainpower and Daphne is like “hey, just think of it like you’re making a trap!” And suddenly Fred starts thinking like that all the time and he becomes ungodly smart. Like, he conquers the stock market, he starts developing an incredibly efficient renewable fuel for cars and jets, all this absolutely wild shit just by thinking of challenges like he's making a trap. And the gang is just dumbfounded, their dynamic is completely shifted and it’s all just wrong. Episode could resolve with him being like “man, thinkings a lot of work! I’d rather just be the trap guy” or something like that

He cares for his friends and his catchphrase is literally ''Alright gang!'' (amongst other iconic ones) hes just a cheery mum of the group, the careful planner, the unofficial yet official leader if you will, yet he does not boss around his friends hes just the 'leader', not even the mascot or the decision maker. A trait of Daphne that appeared a couple of times only to be mostly forgotten is that she believes in the supernatural. This happened a couple of times but is more prominent in the _Zombie Island_ movie, where Daphne gets.the gang back together for her trip trying to find a real haunted house or cryptid or curse; in that movie Daphne is kind of the leader and Fred is her lancer, the Scully of her Mulder. The dynamic of the group there is: *- Daphne believes in the supernatural and wants to know more about it* *- Shaggy believes in the supernatural but is affraid of it so he doesn't want nothing to do with it* *- Velma doesn't believe in the supernatural but is open to consider it* *- Fred doesn't believe in the supernatural and its very stubborn about denying it* *- Scooby-doo is a dog*

Damn right, I always saw him as the team director, as in he knows his friends, their unique skills, and how to keep them on task. That's why he's always the first to identify when conversational banter is getting unproductive (Alright gang, let's split up and find some clues!) and he's usually the one tying together the proof presentation at the end of the episode, handing off to Velma and Daphne as the presentation strays into their wheelhouses.

Funnily enough, "A Pup Named Scooby Doo" actually has similar traits to what JelloApocalypse wants in a likeable Velma. Her only real drawback was that she barely spoke at all.

I think that was one of her strongest traits. To me, she wasn't just a quiet kid, she was THE quiet kid. She won't say a thing unless she thinks it's important, and the gang knows it. When she talks, EVERYONE listens. And on top of that, she has extreme gadgets and vehicles (like a family sized rocket skateboard) they can use in emergencies. And when she uses them, she gets a concerning intense look about her. Edit: Also she's legitimate nice to all her friends, a rare thing for Velmas. And the friendship moments between her and Scooby are just precious.

Velma being the woman of science who's so obsessed with finding actual proof of the supernatural, but is repeatedly disappointed by the "monster" just being some guy with a costume. Daphne being well adjusted "people person" of the group that will actually kill you. Fred, being the pure hearted man with the body of a Greek god and a brain made of mashed potatoes, Who's solving mysteries because it makes him happy, and that makes everyone else happy. I would like to say, one adjustment, don't let Daphne know how to do traps from the beginning. Let her learn from Fred. There's no relationship drama, but there's still plot, dynamic, growth, and development between the two. Plus, let Fred learn fashion or textiles from Daphne. Healthy couples engage with each other's interests and learn and love and embrace what their partners are passionate about. Let the "conflict" be Daphne struggling with her self-confidence because she can't get a seemingly simple knot right, but Fred manages to give her the boost she needs at the eleventh hour, supporting her and learning how to help her learn. Show Fred having a bit of a crisis bc Daphne's pulled the gang to a (haunted) fashion show and he keeps trying to be "better" in order to not embarrass Daphne, but it's in Daphne reminding him she loves him for who he is that they trap the monster of the week. Let them have the most positive girlboss/himbo dynamic while still learning and growing as people.

That way she's still a scientist but like... an actual scientist open to ideas. When you were talking about Velma's skepticism in later series and how often they've faced off against real supernatural stuff, I just realized what I think would be part of the perfect Scooby Doo series. So far, at least as far as I'm aware, the "these monsters are real" stories have always been pretty well separated from the "it's a guy in a mask" stories, so why not mix the two together? Make a series that's *explicitly* about the fact that Mystery Inc. is uniquely suited to be sniffing out the scam artists *because& they've seen the real thing so often. Each episode, then, becomes partly about the mystery, but also partly about figuring out whether they're dealing with a real monster this time, or just another guy in a suit. This could also allow, for example, Velma and Shaggy to share roles as the "smart" ones: Velma knows real world history, mythology, theology, and so on, so she's the best at recognizing real monsters since most of them would be based off of the actual legends, while Shaggy's the one with all the pop culture knowledge, the B horror movies and so on, so he'll recognize all the tropes and stagecraft that scam artists will rely on to trick people. This also means you could have the episode where a werewolf dresses up as a vampire to scare people away from the hotdog stand or whatever so he can find the treasure that was hidden there a long time ago.

I love this. I believe some of the shows and movies are canonically in different universes, some which have magic and some which don't. Mystery Incorporated set their world to be mostly or entirely without magic depending on how its argued. But how funny would it be to have a mystery where a bunch of faires(or similar) were trapped by someone in a sack and accidentially become a villain as they wreak havoc through the town trying to get out. People think it's a living scarecrow or something, but nah. It's just a bunch of confused magical creatures. Bonus points for beautiful airhead Fred having been the source of the trapping by accidentially forgetting he left one set somewhere. Could teach kids about responsibility and time management or something like that.

The idea that Shaggy could help differentiate fakes from real monsters reminded me of that whole thing about how they use corn syrup to mimic blood in many movies. I could just imagine the gang finding some supposed haunting where blood is oozing from the walls and Shaggy, completely unmoved, walks up to the wall, pulls out a snack and dabs the blood on it and takes a bite before turning to everyone and saying "If this ghost is real it must have died in a candy factory because this blood is delicious!" or something along those lines.

Seeing the characters slowly break down as they come to terms with actual monsters is so good, especially the way the writers turn their characteristics (ie, Velma being a nerd or Fred liking traps) into them spiraling, which is actually showcased the best with Fred, where he starts out with his normal booby traps but as he learns more and more from Sam and Dean, he ends up spiraling down a rabbit hole of more and more complex traps involving the Supernatural show's gimmicks until he's just completely lost it, because nothing is working like he expects

I hate to use such an overused phrase, but it's almost a deconstruction in a way. Like I don't think any other iteration put nearly as much thought into it. It's much more *crafted* than a normal Scooby Doo series.

I think a good Velma should be like a huge paranormal nerd, she's not a Scully she's a Mulder but what she does hate are hoaxes so when the clues start hinting that the "monster" is somebody pretending to be a monster she hates it and starts getting snarky towards the culprit, she also could have a running gag about really obscure paranormal trivia like "Everyone knows werewolves hate grapefruits" and no one can tell if that's a real thing or if she's just making it up

To be fair to the Velma-Shaggy-Scooby love triangle, if you're ever in a REAL life relationship and your partner asks you to choose between them, and a pet, you choose the pet. That's a big red flag. Exceptions include Allergies, and trauma. Though my pet is a bunny, so if you're trying to come at me with a rabbit related trauma, you better also be walking off the set of Monty Python.

Doesn't matter if it's trauma either. Trauma is met with at least sympathy and no ill will as we break up, but ANYONE who tells you to choose between something you love and them gets the boot. Doesn't matter the reason, the only thing that the reason can change is whether or not you should dislike them afterward.

I actively like the idea of a Velma who is so secretly into the occult that she's probably one of the main reasons the group visits these "haunted" locations. She knows science stuff, which is why she has all this ghost hunting gear that she asks Fred to pretend is his since he's been portrayed as the "light-hearted conspiracy theorist" a couple of times. It'd also make it a fun dynamic where Velma actually gets kind of bummed out when she realizes it's just a scam and that her attempt to prove ghosts and monsters are real are what inevitably causes the bad guy to be captured. It'd be kind of like in Ghost Busters where they were scientists, it's just that she secretly wants to be a ghost buster while keeping the illusion of "Oh, yup. Totally gonna be a chemist or... Ya know. Something doctor-y...."
@Soufriere84

That kind of IS Velma's M.O. in certain series, at least unofficially. It's just that by the time we meet her in, say, Mystery Inc., she's gotten so jaded from the monster always being some greedy capitalist in a costume (or a robot, that's happened a few times).

@@josephperez2004 that was a little in part due to the national exaggerator i think it was called i actually liked the subtle call back to his magazine obsession with the trap mags in mystery inc. on topic though velma has always seemed to be the one that wanted the ghosts and occult things to be real even if she was the most skepticle at the same time. .. kind of makes shaggy scooby and daph pretty big dicks for never telling them about the 13 ghosts, ghoul school, the boo brothers, all the monsters in the reluctant werewolve lol. . if i'm not mistaken the first time the whole gang encounters something actually supernatural it's zombie island.

NGL, I think you're missing something on the ideal form of Daphne. Her 2nd type is not mutually exclusive with her 3rd. I remember in What's New Scooby Doo where she was regularly damseled (Primarily through bad luck) and regularly saved herself in some bad ass way that usually involved her make-up or accessories and I honestly think that's probably the best incarnation of Daphne we've ever had. She's extremely fashionable, extremely capable, but extremely unlucky.
