Which SE Dynacaster Mic to buy? DCM8 vs DCM6 vs DCM3 (ft SM7b, RE20, Sona, PodMic, MV7x, SE V7)

In this episode, I have the entire SE Dynacaster line in the Audio Hotline Studio! I discuss the differences between the original Dynacaster (DCM8) and the newer additions to the line, the SE DCM 6 and DCM 3. Each of these microphones has something different to offer and has the potential to appeal to a lot of people. In this review, I talk about what comes with these mics, the similarities, differences, specs, features, and I do all the usual tests for each of the mics. In addition to that, I do also compare each of these mics to some other mics that could be considered competition.

Dynacaster is my end game mic when I have the money spare (the Donner PO-8 is doing the job atm). The Dynacaster just has so many extras where you can fine tune the microphone to your own liking. SE really nailed it with this one.

The last thing I need is another microphone, but here I am loving this review. And Blue is awesome. Kitties rule! But dang, the Podmic even sounds noticeably worse even through basic earbuds.

Not for dyslectic people: The DCM8 has DMC8 on the capsule... 😂, like the V7 has a DMC7 marking and the V7x has DMC7X, the DCM3 and 6 have DMC3A on the capsule, and the V3 has nothing on the capsule... I like the DCM8 and the V7 as the best sE Electronics dynamic microphones. Love your videos. For me it's the right balance between info and personality.... 👍

I personally like the DCM3 the best. It sounds the most natural. The DCM8 sounds like the bass is way overboosted, almost like it's EQed to the Vshaped smile. The DCM6 sounds very thin imo, almost like a USB mic. DCM3 sounds natural compared to the other 2.

I'm feeling the same way. The best bang for the buck is probably the cheapest (DCM 3). Seems like it's just right, right out of the box! I want to live the Dynacaster but I agree, it's a bit too bass heavy and congested.

I actually just had to wait it out. It was really weird… I still don’t understand it. Usually my videos process really fast. I am worried this is going to keep happening 😬 I hope not though. I used the same video export settings I always do. Even when I tried changing the export settings it still wouldn’t process. Maybe KZbin is mad at me… 😂 Thanks for your patience! I have had the RE320 for a couple years now and for whatever reason, it just never really clicked with my voice. I ended up doing sound for a lot of comedy shows and ended up falling in love with the SE V7. I just recently picked up the DCM6 and couldn't be happier. All and all -- I think I've learned that after a certain peice point and baseline quality, subtle differences in microphones will go virtually unnoticed by a population that mostly consume content on their phone or very low end headphones and speakers. It's best to pursue microphone that fit your voice, have pleasing form factor, and are enjoyable to use. That being said, I can't stand the Rode Podmic 🤢🤮

Hey there, I love your reviews! I'm looking for my first 'real' microphone to record youtube videos and stream games in my untreated large room. I have watched so many of your reviews, and to be honest I'm a little overwhelmed. I'm a woman, if that matters. I'm looking at the $200 price area. What would be your suggestion(s) for the best USB microphone for me? I'm kinda leaning toward the Deity VO-7U but then I see so many other ones mentioned. Also, are you going to review the MAONO PD200X? I'm actually really interested in that bc it seems to have the same features at less than half the price

Ok, here's a question (I don't think I heard this in the demo).... With the original Dynacaster, using some sort of switch combination (low-cut with flat high-end, or low-cut with high-end boost 1?) can you dial in a sound that's also similar sounding to the DCM 3 or 6? If so, then yes, the original Dynacaster is a no brainer.
