The Crosby bow shackles have a side load rating of 50% of the WLL

About the "screw all the way in then back half a turn" although it will not make the break load of the shackle any lower, and it is taught everywhere in Australia and most countries, but it is not recommended by the shachel manufacturer/designer. This is only something that everyone kown it is safe to do so and makes life easier, but not something written in the test book. The little pin hole on the pin is there for you to insert a rod and break it look after a lift. For very high risk lifts (espect wind, swing, vibration, sliding ect), keep the pin tight. The deformation that locks the pin helps deaster from happening.

Not entirely accidental as the aim is to help students anywhere in Australia without promoting any specific RTO
