Thanks for your insights on these, Emily! I'm a big Altra and Hoka fan but have always wanted to try the Vaporfly. On the other hand, I too, have a slight right foot pronation. So, all of this, plus your incredible evaluation gives me much to think about.

Hi Emily. I bought the Nike Vaporfly 3s for my first registered Road Half-Marathon. I tend to over-pronate as well and found my right ankle started to get sore about 15km but overall I’m very happy with them. I’ll be purchasing the Nike Alphafly 3s in March of 2024 so they will arrive in time for my Birthday in April. Can’t wait to see how they perform. Hope you have a great 2024 🙂

As my road season ends and trail running begins I’m think about next seasons road racing 😈 this video has helped. I’ve ran 5ks 10k multiple half’s and a marathon in the vaporflys 2. But I want to Try the hokas as the Clifton’s are my daily trainers and love their trail like up.

I really love that you are pointing out the stability characteristics for the shoes you're reviewing. I recently got a pair of Triumph 20 and that's causing pain for me since I'm over pronating. Puma Deviate Nitro 2 is working really well for me though. Would you think that the Vaporfly 3 would then be causing problems for me too?

Vaporfly is definitely one of the more unstable shoes for me, so i would proceed with caution if you have issues with shoes like that

Thank you for the video, I would be interested in the durability of the two shoes. That means how many kilometers/miles do the shoes last. For example, I can run about 700 miles in my Bondi, but only about 400 miles in the Rocket X.

Great comparison. I would agree if hoka feels better go with that for me I don't have narrow foot and Nike is generally narrow cut. I haven't looked yet looked to see if hoka offers a wide I hot wide in the bondi. Nb I'm a standard mostly hi ruby and happy birthday

I have the Hoka Rocket X2 and I think it's fantastic! But I would also like to buy the Nike Vaporfly 3 and use both and compare them! I can definitely recommend the Hoka Rocket X2. Now I'm curious how the Nike compares...at the moment unfortunately it's sold out everywhere in my size

I was able to order the Vaporfly 3 today! A small contingent in my size was on offer for 197 euros and sold out after a few moments...I was lucky 😀 Now I'm curious how it compares to the Rocket 2 that I already own

I never overpronated in the Vaporfly 2, I guess the heel got too soft. Is it like the overpronating in the Endorphin Speed 1?

I’ve tried both. Have run and races in the Rocket X 2 and it might be my pick for supershoes. The VF3 might be springier and faster, but I do think it won’t hold up as far as mileage to the Hoka. I have to save them for key races I guess. Also, I see the Mizzou shirt. Fellow ex-Missourian?

Never own a super shoe but both sounds great, guess its down to how they feel. Just upgrading from Mach 4 to 5

Just tried first super shoe in adios pro 3 and can tell you I am glad I bought at sale price as they are only slightly better than saucony speeds I have used in the past . If you have a budget; then look for sale prices. If no budget , these shoes help but only slightly more than a shoe like saucony speed 1 or 2 for us amateurs may not be worth worrying about an upgrade.

@@pbnotj1 Agree, will consider one if the deal is good, bought the Mach 4 at launch price and now the Mach 5 at 25% discount. Btw, for some reason can't find a good fit from adidas and saucony, speed 2 inclusive. No prob with hoka and nike

Update : I now have both shoes and have run in both. With the new Vaporfly 3 I immediately ran the best time yesterday in the 5K park run. Run continuously in the 3 pace range without getting tired. Both shoes feel similar in comparison..I feel the Hoka is even more springy but similar. For me I can say that they are both fantastic competition shoes and the Nike also looks super cool. Lol...I had a lot of looks at my shoes yesterday. Conclusion: The Vaporfly for the shorter, very fast distances and the Hoka for the medium to longer distances. I am really very satisfied with both models and can recommend them unreservedly. 👌👍

After carbon x2 I kept myself far from Hoka at the Racing department. After this review I will try again as soon as they deliver any other color besides that ugly green 😮. Im as happy with de Vf3 as Im with de Vf2

Hoka always look like clown feet on me. I tried on the Rocket X 2 the other day, and they feel like they tilt back with the forefoot tilting into the sky. I can feel how fast the forefoot could be but I don't think I am fast enough to really optimize it. I love how they look on people, but I just laugh when I look down and see the clown feet on me. I haven't tried any plated Nike yet.

Same happens to me. The heel on the Rocket X 2 sinks too much and need a lot of effort to engage the forefoot. I don't feel the rocker feel of the NV SC Trainer

Hoka rocket x2 set my 10k pb wearing them 36:39 😁 the vaporflys give me terrible pain in the achilles not a sure i would recommend but that's just me personally

The biggest difference is that the Hokas seemed to have a sweet spot on the forefoot, as if they're specifically 'tuned' to strike in a certain spot. The foam feels bouncier than the Vaporflys, maybe a little firmer, giving the impression of running taller. The Nikes are light, fast, comfortable but don't feel really remarkable in terms of responsiveness. The Hokas really feel more responsive than the Nikes. In fact, I think the Adidas Takumi Sen 8 feel more responsive than these Nikes. Also, due to the slightly wider footprint and more foam on the lateral side, the Hokas get the nod as being a bit more protective and stable than the Nikes. I will be using them primarily on the track for short distances and 400m training. I like the snug fit of the Hoka upper, similar to my Adidas racing spikes.

The hokas are most definitely better for the midfoot, I found with the Vaporflys that they give me terrible pain in the achilles area and overall legs.

I actually prefer the Endorphin Pro 3. It is a very forgiving super shoe and is a little cheaper.

It’s my favorite too. It’s the first supershoe that’s suited me so perfectly other than the TakumiSen which I reserve for shorter races. It was comfortable out of the box but I put about 20 mi on it to be sure and then ran Boston in it, where I got an 18 min PR over last year. I know it’s thanks to the training and nutrition but on a very wet day it didn’t hold on to the large amount of water thrown at it, traction was great even at the slimy fuel stations, my feet didn’t have a hint of a blister and they felt fresh right to the end.

Easy if you are midpacker buy the hoka, if you are faster and neutral in gait buy the vaporfly. Anyway the vaporfly have poor stability and poor durability and could be a fast shoe but not a practical one to buy! To much hype for a shoe that is not better than Adidas and Saucony racing shoes!

In an older video while reviewing the Alpha Fly, you were like "Whose feet were these made for?", and that's what rings in my head whenever I see a Nike shoe with their ultra narrow midfoot. I need a shoe that works with me, so on that alone, I'll give the Rocket X a try.
