With updated talents, abilities and new runes, we should expect certain classes to have a bit of a zero to hero moment in phase 2. Today im going to go over which specializations within Season of Discovery stand to gain the most.
Its always tough to predict with so many things changing at once, but on paper, each of the spec i'll cover today look as though they are going to see big improvements.

Melee Hunter and Elemental Shaman both being viable makes me so happy. I have a Hunter, Shaman, Druid, and Mage for my 4 characters. Thise are definitely going to be the first 2 i get to 40

Been tanking RFK all last night as a mutilate rogue and it was MASSIVE for tanking. Great damage. We had 2 rogues warrior and a feral and our priest healer popped to TB to clear bags and as a 4 melee team we literally decimated. Over half the instance cleared without a healer

Yeah warlock P1 runes were great for some new playstyles but P2 are mainly some flat buffs/stats gains and pretty boring (still better than rogue i think) but somewhat disappointing. Would be nice to have some reason/option to go deep demo spec.

I'm a warrior that always liked the Arms style I am super Stoked for Sudden Death in SOD! that new proc for instant Slam, Mortal Strike and SD I hope will make arms pop until 60 when we innevitably get Titan's Grip and Fury becomes dominant again.

The new paladin runes + holy shield makes paladin the best tank at lvl 40, but the shockadin build is insanely versatile. You can fill any role with it, with the exception of tanking raids.

For ele shaman you go Overload but double one handers with rockbiter for sham rage mana return, and maelstrom weapon, sync weapons and weave LBs/lava bursts

Do we know if melee shaman Maelstrom healer could be a thing in phase 2? Will it be working on any melee hit or only skills like in retail (which is such a bummer btw)? I would love to have a melee healer archetype in discovery it's crazy to me that they've added Rogue and warlock tank and mage healer before having any proper melee healer. And I know paladin exists but as a healer it's not exactly a true melee class it's a range healer that happens to share skills with DPS paladin it's not the same feeling.

You forgot to mention Shadow Priest. They are getting a fat stack of goodies from the Shadow Spec combined with Shadowfiend and Shadowform, both which will drastically improve mana usage. They are also getting a good stack of runes. Holy is also getting a good amount of love, as well.

As a lifelong hunter, 0% chance i use melee specialization or any of the new runes you showed. the extra damage from the exposed weakness + Focus fire will outscale the melee benefit and allow more versatility during raid boss fights. Add in Invigoration to take the place of aspect of the viper and thats a winning combo for sure.

I totally plan on playing melee hunter mainly cuz the classic fan base has been programmed for decades to charge into a hunters melee range in pvp but now they will get an unpleasant surprise from me when they do! 😂🤣😂

Lifelong hunter here, when I saw these runes, due to the proc nature of the melee build, there’s no way I’m not trying it out. The aoe potential is wild as well with carve. I plan on going marks first, but I’m definitely going to try melee out. PvP melee hunter could be stronger than ranged.

Hunters, one of the best 2 leveling classes, were strong at 25? So shocking. Theyll still be good at 40, because again classes with good base stats that scale poorly will be good until level 60 gear starts kicking in. I just hope they don't pay too much for it at 60 where they are traditionally pretty weak.
