Despite the LAAT taking my vote, I adore the Droid Gunship. The fact that it is a droid in-and-of itself is a major plus. No living pilot means no possibility for 'human' error. If its told to, it can go in and out without question, or mercilessly slaughter an entire town without hesitation. Standard CIS malfunctions notwithstanding, of course.

Maybe if they used Lambda in this list, it would get into 3rd. It's still armed, though not as heavily armed as a proper gunship, but it said it's sturdy as hell. Even doesn't have overall fire-power, it's laser cannons are still good and spread out around the ship. Lambda-class shuttle after all are used by high ranking officials too, so it's defensive capabilities must be really good. Not to mention that still Empire have proper gunships such as Ye-4 Gunship. The problem is that on movies, we never really saw the Empire using other gunships at all. Only the Lambda-class shuttle which is mostly used by high ranking officials or special forces instead. Even on TV series such as on Rebels I think, except for one that on this list, which is not really a military-grade and not design on mind to be used for proper military.

@@darwinxavier3516 well yea since the belly of the ship is dedicated for (configurable) transport capabilities. it makes even more sense when considering where the majority of encountered fire would come from. its a dropship so most fire would be AA fire from the ground so having the tropp department between the incoming fire and the tech means extra layers of armor for it (at the expense of the cargo but we all know that the GAR didnt give a sh*t about their troopers...)

Technological advancement is kind of a loose term in Star Wars when all the technology seems to be pretty stagnant for thousands of years. Things seem to simply get bigger with more guns. The CIS has the most impressively varied and adaptive collection of vehicles I've ever seen. The fact that they're droids means they don't require lengthy training and are relatively easy to replace. Give a few of those units enhanced AI and equipment like an ace droid starfighter and they could devastate nearly any opponent.

I watched that scene again. It was clearly the same gunship. And it came really fast. But super battle droids with jets fly around that. So it can't came out of hyperspace at that moment. But the scanners couldn't find it before the ships wanted to jumo into hyperspace. Very difficult to tell

Emperor Demon - the FO Drop ship? Hummmmmm... well it isn't big in the Armament department, only really having that top mounted gun for clearing the landing zone/suppressing fire. Decent troop capacity, especially if you consider it to the ships overall volume(it's basically a flying box full of Stormtroopers), I would put it between the LAAT and the imperial -riot chopper- dropship.

The LAAT does have a sheild. It's clearly seen in episode 2 ATOC. The LAAT carrying Obi-Wan & Anikan takes many shots from Geonosian fighters. These shots explode prematurely because they are hitting it's sheilds. Only question I have is why wasn't the LAAT using it's rear gun at all to fire the pursuing enemy ships? Don't the sheilds have to be down in order to return fire?

In the Attack of the Clone novel it mentioned shields on the LAAT/i, but we never saw them in a movie or TV series. On the other hand in about 90% of all Venator-class battle scenes we did not see shields either.

I completely agree with your list but I think from the perspective of a general that the LAAT is a better vehicle then the droid gunship because it can carry ammo and small vehicles plus it can carry droids and living beings. The droid gunship can’t. So from the point of which is the best in statistics. The droid gunship is the best but I would rather have the laat because of its versatility in carrying abilities

@@Lego_Chewbacca Gunship is slang name of specialized attack crafts and assault transports. Both LAAT and HMP are heavily armed and designed to transport ground forces. They are gunships. Sentinel was heavy transport, what usually is not the case with gunships. Though it is relatively heavy armed for such large transport. So after rethinking it, I would say that it could be considered as gunship, but I wouldn't really use it that way. You don't put too many eggs in one basket under heavy fire.

You forgot to mention that the LAAT can travel in space. This allows it do it job without needing to get its carrier into atmosphere, significantly shortening how long the mission needs to be. This is best shown at the end of the Citadel arc in TCW. Good list and good video.

How would this comparison have looked like if the Empire had the IDT/Imperial Dropship Transport (the thing from 0:46)? Both of your choices for the "best ground vehicle" video and this one for the Empire confuse me. In the former, you put an All Terrain Armoured Transport without the armoured or the transport part against mobile comand centres, a better AT-AT and something that's literally called "Supertank". In this video, you compare a heavy gunship with missiles that can carry troops, a heavier gunship with more missiles that can carry troops and dedicated troop transport with * drumroll * ...a police car. I'm not hating on you or anything, but I really don't understand what thought process led to you putting a (flying) police car (with missiles) up against dedicated war machines.

I really enjoy your vids, great in depth analysis and presented in an easy to listen to way. I do have a criticism of this and a few of the other compares in that I think to much emphasis is placed on utility in things other then the primary function of whatever is being compared rather then how potent are they are their desired roles. For example, even though a victory class SD heavily outguns a Quasar Fire cruiser, the Quasar fire cruiser is pound for pound a better "carrier" due to a larger hanger capacity and smaller production requirements.

The Sentinel class shuttle would do better in this video. I don't think you should have chosen the police style gunship because it was mainly used to defend occupied territories. I personally think that the dropship seen in the force unleashed is the best for the Galactic Empire. The gunship shown in this video simply doesn't even compare to the other 3. The same thing was done with the walkers video.

I think the Police Dropship was perfectly designed to be used within Coruscants narrow streets but then horribly adapted and kind of misused by the empire when they took it into vast plains like these on Lothal. Besides that, I completely agree with your ranking 1-3. Great Vid as always

My favorite thing about the laat is that against normal gunfire it can be mobile cover with the slats in the doors, and the fact that you can close one door and open the other one, making it like a mobile base too

Should be mentioned that The CIS Gunship actually is a droid wich probably is a great advantage because it can respond to its sensor data much quicker and anticipate positions of enemy ships better because of their computational abilities. Human pilots cannot overview a complete Swadron of ships and generally tend to mishandling their ships sometimes. Also when maneuvering the CIS-Gunship it does not have to considerate its robotic cargo much but imagine sitting in a LAAT doing Looping Louie. So in a one on one the CIS-Gunship would win easily and it is the best gunship. But the LAAT has a much more versatile cargo and has better distribution of its guns so they can secure the landing Zone much better. So in the role of a Dropship the LAAT does serve best but still the CIS-Gunship is totally badass

A specific memory I have with the LAAT gunship is when I was playing Battlefront 1 Classic, I was having a ton of trouble with the Geonosis mission in the campaign. But one time I lucked out and got into an LAAT with the final remaining clone trooper. And for whatever reason, no other clone troopers would spawn for the CIS to kill and end the game. So that last AI clone and I just flew around for who knows how long and won the game

I agree LAAT should take the win it has literally been seen in the clone wars tv show landing in a circle around troops and giving good protection under heavy fire without being destroyed, the reasons why I think the HMP doesn't earn number one is it may have a shield but the ship itself is very small so those shields are limited in their capabilities; it is also stated in the video that the ship is able to achieve high speeds while i do realize the the shields help achieve those speeds it can easily be assumed that most of the power is going the engines rather than the shields and finally what I find to be the most critical flaw is that the droids the HMP carries are completely exposed once those shields are gone a problem that is not had by the MMT while although not a dropship is a part of the Separatist army.

ROBERTO VEGA The clone wars tv show isn't really the best argument for the laat, we all know they are always an shielded with moderate plot armor, and in the tv show we don't see action from the perspective of the CIS so we don't know how good they really are in the show. But all that aside i do like the laat a little more than the cis gunship

i say that the LAAT's only advantage over the HMP is that it is better armed(the beam cannons) and can carry things other then droids. as it is slower, a bigger target and a lot less durable thanks to no shield it also isn't as good at missile spam

Good video overall and while I can't argue any of the points you brought up, I wish you had mentioned the U-Wings hyper drive. This gives it a range unmatched by the others. Which combined with it's shielding, higher speed, and smaller troop capacity really profiles it as a raiding craft and not a true dropship.
