When a Subaru enthusiast like me sees someone caring for their older STI, it makes us feel good about the future. We these cars get riced up or blown up far too often and it’s annoying. Now people have perpetuated the myth that the boxer 4 is unreliable. It’s worked for 30 years and suddenly now people think it’s unreliable. It usually happens when someone flogs the rev limiter and skips basic maintenance then the car breaks and they hit the forums screaming about how bad Subaru engines are.

I love how this video is produced, it shows a lot of passion about these cars which goes a long way. As a 2005 sti owner myself, I would have to agree that getting a 2nd car as a daily would be ideal. It is hard and expensive to find these cars stock and with low mileage and with that brings more risk. It is a Subaru, it will have problems over time like any performance-based car. I've had my 05 STI for 4 years and I can't imagine not having it. They are not the fastest cars in the world but they bring an experience behind a wheel that I have yet to find in another car. Remember to be kind to your car and your car will be kind to you ♥

At 18 I bought an 07 STi because I could. Financially , not a good idea. Fast forward 4 years later, and it’s been broken in the garage for almost 2 years due to bearing failure. I bought it modified, and did nothing but modify it more on stock block. I learned soo much, but honestly sometimes wished I didn’t modify it so much until I had the money to build an engine. But, for some reason I cannot sell it. She will be getting a built engine this winter. Cant wait.

I agree with you on getting the older one. I absolutely love the white one you have. Problem I see is trying to find one thats in great condition and without having it be a money pit. Another angle is with 2021 being the last version of this gen of STI, they may even appreciate. The driving experience is probably more raw and even better for a driver in the older ones, but for what the STI is worth compared to other manual options in todays current market, still think it is an amazing vehicle for what you get if you are truly a driver. I have a 2019 and trading it in for 2021 white STI and the last gen. looking at it as a fun daily (won't mod except a catback potentially) and as a potential investment that may appreciate. There’s just something about a Subaru that makes you fall in love with them. I own a FA20 WRX and I absolutely am still in love with it. I ended up buying a s550 Mustang GT and I daily it but I kept my WRX and now my wife dailies it. I hardly drive the WRX but when I do it always puts a smile on my face and we plan on never getting rid of it.

@@tylerthepally637 yeah it’s great to have both. Makes you appreciate both the usdm and jdm cars. I agree too, I want to own a STI in my lifetime but at the very least drive one up in the canyons or something. I love the sound and I heard they handle way better than the regular wrx. Which I think the wrx handles great so I can’t imagine a STI. I also love the subi rumble, best sounding 4 cylinder I’ve ever heard in my life.

I have the same feelings with my 2004 Forester XT 5spd. I didn't want the extra costs associated with an STI, however not many people know a second gen FXT can do just as much as an older STI. we have the same motor, just a smaller turbo by default, and that can be upgraded with no issues. =)

But I recently totaled my truck and my other car 89 thunderbird SC gets stored for the winter, so I’m really looking for the Awd so I can daily drive it and not worry as much in the winter. And I feel like I love the older ones to much I wouldn’t even wanna drive it all the time in winter I’d wanna keep it nice and clean as much as possible!

I daily my 2003 WRX. Honestly hasn't given me much issues in the 2 years of ownership so far. It's pretty much stock with a turbo back exhaust which in my opinion is the key to reliability. Don't be putting random mods and expecting the car to work for you every day.

I started with an 05 WRX and then spent 6 months trying to find an 05 STI that wasn't destroyed by the previous owner... some "excellent condition" vehicles I inspected included one touched up with matte black rattle can paint, and one that was blowing smoke from the engine bay and went into limp mode during a test drive, after looking at more than 10 I gave up! Finding a good STI (and owner) of that generation is the hardest part, at least down in here Australia... Thats how I ended up with a 2017 STI. No regrets, needed for daily uses as well but do have a very special spot reserved in my future garage for an 05 STI one day... Nice video.

I knew I wanted either an 05-07 but I also considered getting a 2015+ since it would have less miles and newer features. I pulled the trigger on a 2006 obsidian pearl sti with 125k+ miles and I think I went the correct route so far. That was 2 months ago and it's been perfect so far. In New England it’s almost impossible to find one that isn’t poorly modded or rusty. I’m not in a position to deal with that right now.
