There’s PLENTY OF OTHER PLACES they could’ve cut out on the Porsche to save significantly MORE weight, but they didn’t. In addition here in the balkans for example we have some roads with almost no lights at all, so you have to adjust your headlights upwards to make the oncoming turns more visible, we aim the headlights differently on big open roads with loads of traffick and on roads with zero visibility.

Exactly. Doug makes a lot of silly comments in this video. He clearly doesn't know that much about cars. "Doug the Disappointer"
@barek2574 жыл бұрын
Great video, my favourite car from my younger times. Small correction though: at 10:25 it is not about "adjusting your headlights in the fog", but about lowering the beam (the complete headlight mirror unit), when you are carrying passengers on the rear bench and/or heavy load in the trunk. Due to load on the rear suspension, the car sags and tilts upwards, so the next thing is that you will be painfully pointing your headlights into the eyes of the drivers ahead and making them not only temporarily blind, but mad. This especially applies to sedans, combis (wagons) and longer cars, which are more prone to shifting their center of gravity. Such an adjustment, or headlight regulator is a norm in most EU countries and in some (like in mine) it is mandatory to have some sort of manual headlight adjuster in the cabin, an automatic levelling system, or at least a manual peg directly at the bottom of the headlights, to temporarily tilt them down right at their mounts. Doug made the same assumption in his video about Mercedes-Benz G500 Cabriolet (at 20m:50s there). Some of you will surely say, as usual, that it is "blah..blah..blah.." and I should generally "shut up" - but it is actually a serious security hazard, especially in the rain and in foggy, dark winter situations, when you have reflections from the wet road in front.. We should not mislead people, that it is some sort of "foglight replacement" or that you can "lit the road in front of you better". It is not true. But, as usual, it is your right to criticise this comment if - for whatever reason - it is not useful for you, or you simply do not like it. I don't care. Enjoy life.

@stefan664 жыл бұрын
I would also like to thank you for this comment. Perhaps one could add that this manual height adjustment was/is not allowed for cars with xenon light (at least in Germany, but I think it is a rule for the whole EU). The reason is that the xenon light is so bright that if the height is set incorrectly, oncoming traffic would be very much dazzled. Therefore, cars with xenon light must have (exclusively) automatic height adjustment that adapts to the load condition of the car. This also means that cars with manual height adjustment must not be retrofitted with xenon lamps. About the car: the WRX STI is certainly one of the hottest cars of its time. Thanks for the review.

One of the things that makes the '04/'05 STi feel faster than what came after, is the gearing. I owned an '05 and '08 and the gearing difference was very noticeable. Some people didn't like the shorter gearing but on tight-twisty roads or the race track it was *fantastic*. You could pull out of a corner in 3rd like most cars pull in 2nd. Yeah, the shorter gearing hurt the 0-60 (which everyone was obsessed about) and you were almost always working the gearbox, but it really helped make use of the engine's powerband and give it a bit more kick. I still miss my '05 STi...it had numerous improvements over the '04 while still being "raw" and it was just a blast to drive.

Doug, The STi didn’t come with floor mats- those were added by the owner. I ordered my non-Noth American market mats from the web. Additionally, there was no stereo provided from the factory- the owner of your car had the WRX factory system put in (by the previous owner, since he didn’t let you know). I had to go to a stereo shop and get a system installed when I bought mine new back on the day. Also, don’t forget the Brembo brakes were exotic back in 2004. Only Ferraris and Porsches came with Brembo brakes until the 350Z, Evo and STi brought them to the masses. The 6 speed transmission was also super rare in those days- anyone that got in my car was blown away by the extra gear. The headlight adjustment isn’t for fog, it’s for when there is excess weight in the truck or rear seats which would cause the nose to tip up and the lights would blind oncoming traffic. You could turn them down. I sold my STi in 2012, and I still miss it.....

@@DougDeMuro My parents sold their bone stock, original owner Evo IIIV GSR with 12k miles on the clock to my best friend a few years ago. My mother bought in in 2003 brand new. When they bought it, the Mitsu dealer gave us a free copy of 2 Fast 2 Furious lol. I'm 31 years old, so you can only imagine how it was driven, like a grandma by a grandma. Unfortunately my buddy did a few mods but it is still under 30k miles. To add to that, I remember riding in the Evo with my father. The interior on that thing was even cheaper and more sparse than the STi. The seats were better in my opinion having had STi seats in my WRX. The Evo recaro's were incredible. That car absolutely ripped. Not to mention, after getting it in 2003, you felt like you were driving a Lamborghini. People would ask to take photos with it at gas stations, try and catch up to take pictures on the road. It was an incredible time for the Evo and STi.
