3:55 Bam Bam Bigelow is a legend, widely considered one of the greatest big men in wrestling history, and he (together with Luna Vachon) was featured heavily on Raw at the time of the game's release. As for the 1-2-3 Kid and Doink, they were hugely popular at the time. When 1-2-3 Kid won against Razor Ramon it helped kick start one of the hottest angles of the early to mid 90s American wrestling: Razor's face turn (and taking the Kid under his wing and teaming up with him) and his feud with Shawn Michaels. The Kid starting off as a jobber and getting a win over Razor, arguably the biggest heel in the company at that time, did a great job of establishing Monday Night Raw itself as a must-see show for wrestling fans because it was broadcast live and it gave the impression quite literally anything could happen there: a jobber who looked like a 16 year old might just score a win over an established main eventer. Now babyface Doink was a bad idea, that's gotten even worse with age, but there's no question he got a huge pop whenever he showed up in 1994, so I understand why they made him part of the game's roster. I'd say this is a pretty good representation of their most popular active wrestlers at the time. Sure, Jake the Snake and Ric Flair rank way higher as all-time greats than Doink or the 1-2-3 Kid ever will, but they weren't in the WWF anymore when this game came out. 🤷♂️

As for the roster change from Royal Rumble to Raw. Ric Flair, Randy Savage and Mr Perfect had all switched to WCW at that time. Bam Bam Bigelow, 123 kid and Doink were some of the most featured characters on the roster. At the time WWE only had a small roster of maybe 20 singles guys so this was probably the top 12 singles guys in the company at the time.

Royal Rumble was my favorite WWF game on SNES as well. However, you scoffed at Doink the clown as most people do but his heel run when he first debuted was awesome! As a matter of fact, he was getting over so well as a heel that people were starting to cheer him. Because it was before the attitude era they felt the need to turn him babyface and it killed the gimmick. Also, Matt Borne (original Doink) was fired around this time so the character was never going to be the same even if they turned him back heel.

Me and my best friend used to have a blast playing Royal Rumble way back in the early 90's. After an hour or two of kicking each other's asses, our fingers eventually got tired from all the mashing. At that point, we'd up the difficulty to max, pick our least favorite character, intentionally get thrown out of the Royal Rumble, and then spend the next 20 minutes watching the computer duke it out and rooting for our favorites. In April, I bought him a CIB copy and put it in a protective case to give him. He doesn't own a SNES, but that game is on display in his house.

I was really hoping that you'd cover _Funaki Masakatsu Hybrid Wrestler: Tougi Denshou,_ as it really is a fantastic gem of a game. Each wrestler has a diverse moveset, there are some wild match types that are unlike anything else in any wrestling game, and there's even a CAW mode that involves learning moves, getting married and fostering a prodigy, and having to retire because you start losing stats and moves due to the ravages of time. It isn't as complex as the _Fire Pro Wrestling_ games, but it is a damn good alternative. It also has an English patch available, which makes it more accessible than most games from Japan... although an instruction manual for some things would still be nice.

If you've never done any of the secret moves in Monday Night Raw you need to go back and play it immediately. Shawn Michaels jumps in the air and spins horizontally and kicks, if the opponents near the ropes they go flying out of the ring. Yokozuna jumps off the ropes and cannonballs, any wrestler in the ring gets knocked to the floor from the earth quake. Every character has a specific move and they're all hilarious.

The struggle to find a great wrestling game is real on the SNES. I know a lot of people were fond of the WWF games on SNES but they probably weren't ruined/spoiled by Pro Wrestling on the NES. That game is king among wrestling games, and is mechanically superior to any licensed WWF or WCW game by far (on the NES or SNES), and it was made by ONE GUY! Teams of people failed to deliver a product of comparable wrestling value (in North America) until the THQ N64 games made their mark almost 15 years later. Meanwhile Japan got to keep all that wrestling goodness to themselves with a zillion Fire Pro Wrestling games (the spiritual sequels to Pro Wrestling), makes me sad...
