PD all the way for me too, the older ones don't have a dpf either so even better!

I drove both pd and cr when new, pd had a character,it made more noise than cr but it was pleasurable engine sound,there was symphony

I'd say the PD and CR engines both have their pro's and con's. The CR engines are more efficient but it seems that the PD's are out lasting them. Id' say it's just a matter of sensors, also PD's engine are so easy to work on especially when u tune them

@@Madkalibyr regular servicing does the job..its currently sitting at 519 thousand..I go from the Highlands of scotland to Manchester 2 times a week and have done for years and it's never missed a beat

Pd was outstanding. I did 32000 miles in mine with no issues. And I sold it in good working order.

PD for me. Amazing reliable engine. AVB engine 100hp - Now at 270k. Turbo went at 260k put a new ebay £100 turbo in. Still on second clutch. First done at 140k

The PD engines are certainly reliable, my Golf had 190k when I sold it, now over 300k

@@ajvw if u rly wanna get something unbreakable get an 1.9sdi or the mother and father of 1.9tdi's the ALH or the longitudinal oriented AHH 90crying hp but 1M miles is a car with a fing tractor engine and a small turbo attached to it (some tuning potential to go to 210 230 hp and still everlasting but will go down with the mpg )

@@mateimanolachi5699 thanks. I've had a TDI 90 Golf previously which was a great car and still on the road. My current Golf TDI is ASZ PD 130 which is also one of the best diesel engines VW have made. My previous one has nearly 300,000 miles on the clock and still going!

@@ajvw man i have an 1.9 ATJ pd quattro 227hp 500nm great fun in snow and gravel still 7l/100km and the only thing i need to do is to change the oil sooner than usual and empty the catch-can 1 in 3 months i call it (great success XD)

Pd 100 AVB in mine. Owned from 2 years old, 251k on mine, original clutch changed at 210k. Had turbo de-coked twice, approx every 100k. Love mine, shame about the door locks though!

PD engine is more durable. Almost unbreakable if you service it regularly.

The 1.9 TDI pd is, the 2.0 pd is less so with a number of known problems including injectors and oil pump

I like the 1.9 TDI PD 130 most. It may be less smooth in some sense, but the sound and vibration is low pitched and pleasurable. The 2.0 TDI PD 140 sounds and feels like a fragile plastic lawn-mower in comparison.

Dont be stupid. They sound the same, only 16v has a little bit stronger sound. I had them all, and 16v sounds the best.

From my experience, the CR engine is smoother/quieter for sure, but will never outlast a PD engine.

Good point, certainly the old PD 130 engines were incredibly reliable but I've not heard such good reviews on the later 2.0 TDI ones

@@ajvw Small turbochargers prone to blowing and dual mass flywheels. But that is usually driver issues lol. The engine itself is absolutely fine.

@@jonathanm4239 as I understand it there are also porous head issues, oil pump drive problems, fuel injector failure (now recalled by VW)

@@ajvw Porous head only on A revision heads. A handful on B revision. They are long gone. Most PD's from 2003 on had C revision. Injector issues were very early examples. You would be real unlucky to find those common faults now. Most already replaced by now. Bear in mind the PD stopped production roughly in 2007/2008 in Europe anyway.

and the tuning potential form stock in the pd engine is just wow form 116 hp u can go to 225hp without losing anything just turbo and inj (and cause they are so many parts are cheap i got upgrade injectors for 30bucks a piece turbo 150bucks ....under 300 bucks with shiping and all u doubled ur hp and cause is a diesel still u have the mpg 4l/100km)

I have both but the PD is definitely less complicated and less prone to issues as no DPF etc.

Engines weren't the problem. Everything else to which it's attached was my concern. I had a 2006 2.0 PD TDi. Reliability was poor and costly to put right. Thankfully I no longer own that car. It was never the most refined of four cylinder diesels but that was the least of my concerns.

Interestingly, I also had a Passat 2006 1.9 tdi PD. bkc. and Škoda Superb 2.0 tdi cr. cbbb tag. both are good. Passat had 460,000 km when I sold it. Škoda now has 370,000 km. CR engine is better. The 2.0 tdi CR is an improved 1.9 tdi PD. 2.0 tdi cr with 170 hp consumes the same fuel as 1.9 tdi PD with 105 hp.

PD is like free performance but if u want to change the injectors u can break them cuz they are thinner.. 😂😂 CR for life
