While the Nike Mercurial is one of the most recognizable brands and models in the world of football boots, as of late, they've had some serious competition in the "speed" category. For 2022 however, they've done something pretty special. Their latest implementation of Air Zoom tech is really good! But is it better than the Carbitex insert found on the Adidas X Speedflow? They promise similar benefits, but do so in very different ways. So which technology is better?

I have a pair of mercs and the speedflow, I found that my heel moves a lot in the speed flow, but the touch on the upper is nice. The mercurials keep my foot locked in everywhere and have a slight grippy feel on the upper. Both are great, but overall I would take the mercs for a serious practice session or game. I had the same heel issue with the pred mutator .1’s. Both adidas boots tweaked my heel/ankle a bit.

i bought both and if you have wide feet i would steer clear of the speedflow, way too tight from sides but the touch is fantastic. I wanted to love them but i couldnt stand the pain, the vapors are really good as well. if im being totally honest in terms of performance, they're both so good in quality that youd barely notice the difference.

While I haven’t tried the new mercs, last year I broke my foot and after recovering my foot felt very unstable in football boots, I then bought and wore a pair of X ghosted .1s and now X speedflow .1s and the carbotex insert genuinely add the extra stiffness that I need to feel stable while running and especially cutting. I’ve tried going back to boots with a traditional soleplate multiple times and it hasn’t worked, so for anyone wondering the carbotex insert makes a genuine difference when compared to other football boot soleplates

I think he is in fact waiting for the speed portals, that's why he just compared one feature of both boots because adidas will stick with the carbon fiber insert.

Cause Adidas will launch those Speed Portal before World Cup so they do not allow him to review them before press. In Vietnam, they already sold the Speed Portal for around $250 at retail price but no big announcement was made.

If the ground is fg/ag field, shouldn't the boots aim to provide a spring back feel(like speedflow)? What is the point of being "more" cushioned on a cushioned ground? You are technically losing the energy put down toward the ground with zoomair unit..so I don't see how this tech is providing any "SPEEDboot" spec. Any opinions?

It’s not a traditional cushion. The amount of actual compression is minimal, but the feel is significant, even if the ground is softer. There’s nothing about the Air Zoom tech that’s taking away from the “speed” aspect of the boots. Like I said in the video, it’s something you have to try to truly understand.

@@Soccerreviewsforyou I was worried if too much cushioning (air zoom tech+softer grounds) will decrease the stability of the ankle and cause injury when planting the foot down in an exercise like soccer where pivoting and quick shifting of weights are required. In fact, Nike has already proved to fail using air zoom tech in soccer boots long time ago and I just feel like they are pushing it for marketing purpose/sales. I am not sure how long and consistently Nike has tested this boot in terms of my opinion on injury potentials but I understand your point that it feels very unique and special as you mentioned, which I am also keying on trying for myself. Yes, the new Mercs have a great fresh look and technology but I have Disappointed with the upper cause the sensations of touch of the ball are sooo rigid, the upper and in general the whole boot of the Speedflow is simply better, the new Mercs are the widest boots that I have use (my foots are thin) and the zoom air capsule makes the boot some bulky😪😥 this generation of Merc is just marketing💔
