Very interesting. Is there any tracker in the market we could use for tracking lost/stolen gear? I mean... Bluetooth is nice, but you need to be in the range to be detected. But is there any device using a nice GPS without needing bluetooth?

The issues with gps trackers is how but they are, they are out there but too big for a wallet

i forgot to look at them, but i'm interested in something similar for outdoors, so have a look at hunting stores, as they have gps locators you can put on a dogs collar, for when they go running after ducks etc... don't see why you couldn't put it in a bag, or the car, or whatever and track it... not sure on battery... there will be compromises...

I got myself a Tile Mate (2020) which you can replace the battery once it completely dies. I just purchased the Tile Slim (2020) today because I like the finding function (you can search for your keys through the Tile app or you can find your phone by double clicking the Tile Mate). You have to keep the app running in the background so it can keep track of your Tiles. If you do accidentally close the app, it will send a notification to turn it back on. Aside from that, I don’t see it depleting my battery life ..then again, I’m usually too busy during my day to have my phone constantly on at work. I would recommend this to anyone ..you never know when you’re in the situation where you don’t have your keys on you but you know they’re in the vicinity ..open the app and you’ll find them immediately lol

Well they work via antenna so if you put it in metal like a faraday cage then it will be useless.

If work is further than 400' from home with the pro you are out of luck.

The tile pings the phone occasionally for the current GPS location. If you dropped your keys while walking, the tile would not be able to refresh its GPS location so the phone would know where the keys were last "seen" then you can go there and try the Bluetooth. You might get lucky.

It will give you the last known location based on when it was close to your phone.

Now you can also mark your Tile as lost. Other phones with the app installed will look for it and when a phone comes within range, you will get a notification with it's location.

Considering you can replace the battery on the mate and pro, I think that's the only one I'd consider purchasing And I'd probably just velcro it to my tv remote control. Does the app notify you if the battery is low or dead?

Is there a tracker for a laptop or dog collar that will reach farther than 400 feet? My dog can travel quite far in a short period of time. I purchased the Tile pro and when I search for the dog I get a message that it is out of range. It isn't any good for finding my dog if she happens to run in the woods.

Not exactly. The Tile app can update the location of the tracker whenever ANYONE with the Tile app comes within range of it. Example: You leave your keys (with tracker) on the bus. The tile app can get a new location for your keys any time that bus passes someone with the app, or someone with the app is on the bus.

I would not recommend purchasing this product. The app needs to stay open *all the time for it to work* yet there is no automatic way to keep the app open (on an android) - making the functionality useless. Further, the range of the BlueTooth is not as advertised.
