The tomatoes that I must grow every year: Black Cherry, Sungold, Black Krim, and Brandy Boy. Pinks and Purples are my favorite kind of tomatoes. Sungold is sweet, tasty and prolific but I like the taste of Black Cherry better. I like Black Krim because it's similar taste to Cherokee Purple but way more prolific but also a little smaller. Brandy Boy has a similar taste to Brandywine but also way more prolific.

@Katydidit2 жыл бұрын
I have a Sunrise Bumblebee that I picked up from a local nursery ... and I am wondering how to know when it is ripe? So far, it seems like they don't want to let go of the vine, even though the color seems appropriate. They then fade to yellow, less stripes? Will let go then. However flavor is unimpressive at that point. I am zone 8b/9a. Any advice you can supply, I would be grateful for!!

Edox is going on my must grow list for next year. My must grow tomatoes include black cherry, sunsugar or sungold, black vernissage, stupice for sauce, Dr, Wyche's yellow, Cherokee purple, and Juliet. I totally agree that the skins are too tough, but here in northwest Georgia it is prolific and keeps setting fruit right up until frost, when most others are long dead due to heat and disease. I freeze a lot of Juliet and other tomatoes, mostly cherry, for soups and sauces in winter. I also must grow Rosella purple, a dwarf tomato project tomato with a taste like cherokee purple nd full sized fruits on a compact plant. Climbing trip-l-crop is a recently added slicer.

Great comparison, thank you. Since Cherokee Purple is one of your favorites, if you haven't already, please also try Carbon, Cherokee Carbon, and Paul Robeson. I've gone back and forth with those 3 and Cherokee Purple for years and decided if I could only grow one, I'd grow Paul Robeson. I tried Amana Orange several years ago but didn't like it as much as Kellogg's Breakfast. But since I moved (from zone 8a to 9a), Kellogg's Breakfast is struggling. I'll have to give Amana Orange another try. One of my go-to slicers in the last few years has been Genuwine. For me it's that quintessential tomato that belongs on a tomato and mayonnaise sandwich.

The most wonderful thing to make with cherry, or any tomato really, is tomato jam from the Food in a Jar cookbook.
