The FJ weights 4340 lbs with the automatic and 4079 lbs with the MT. The 4Runner weighs 4750 lbs. No wonder the FJ wins even with 60,000 miles on it. BTW , the FJ with MT is even quicker than the 4Runner and it’s easily apparent just driving them back to back, since I own both. That almost 700 lb difference plus a lower rear end on the MT with full time 4wd is killer. Also at sea level, the FJ MT is good for 7.1 seconds!

The 4Runner is almost 500 lbs more than the FJ. When it was released it was about a second faster than the 4Runner and would run between 7.5 and 8 seconds close to sea level. How did the FJ beat the Tacoma if the Tacoma was fastest? Traction control. Spin the tires even a little and either the brakes come on briefly or the power is cut briefly. Did anyone notice how much trouble they had to stop the Tacoma compared to the two others? Bad weight distribution and maybe the rear drum brakes are a factors?

People are complaining about them being slow, out dated etc. Slow with outdated tech yes, but reliable and designed for off road capability not drag racers. You don’t buy one of these 3 models to drag race a Hellcat or brag to a Tesla owner about your tech. You buy one of these bc you will go off-roading/camping etc. and you know that you’ll most likely get 300K miles with fewer trips to the mechanic. Doesn’t take a genius to figure that out! I just hope the new 4Runner keeps the 4.0 bc I’m waiting for the Gen 6 to come out. Want to pay off the wife’s’19 Highlander first.

I disagree the V8 with a manual that's what I'm talking about.👍 I have an older Tundra 4.7 V8 in an 85 4Runner I put a manual in I can light the tires up for a couple of blocks and I can do mid 12's in the quarter mile on 33-in 12x5. inch wide T/A All Terrain radial tires with a 4-in lift for four wheeling not very aerodynamic. No offense just my two cents but screw your Mansi Pansy automatics anybody can drive one of those (to me that's not real driving. 👎 Most younger people don't even know how to drive stick these days perfect security device.😊😁👍 It's really sad that you can't even get a manual transmission in the new Supra (hence the term "sports car") much less a truck these days. Going back to 1999 (first year of the Tundra full size truck) Toyota at least in the States never sold the Tundra with the V8 and a M/T and they never had the option in the V8 4Runner either , either way they should have at least had an option 😡. You had to get the V6 Tundra to get to the M/T which they don't even have that option in the newer Tundra's. 👎😡💩

Why not put them in 4x4 for better launches? Also, would love to know how the manual would do. Taco still can be had with it. I had a 2012 for a while and loved it. Thanks for the fun content!

Slower in 4x4, think drive train losses. Fwd is 10-15% loss, Rwd 15-20%, 4x4 20-35%.

@@marksjdejong True. But would the launch benefits outweigh the losses in a drag race? It would be a good test for a video!

@@morgandrives AWD or 4wd is not faster than RWD. Only in bad weather. The engine will always have the same power but will be slower sending power to 4 wheels vs 2 wheels.
@morgandrives
@morgandrives Жыл бұрын
@@jelaniward3418 Not faster overall, but faster off the line with awd for sure, which is why I ask about 4x4. My Audi will beat an equally powerful car from a standstill on dry roads every time. But awd may be different from 4x4 for launching.
@jelaniward3418
@jelaniward3418 Жыл бұрын
@@morgandrives It honestly just depends on the power plant. In a 260 hp car like the FJ, dividing power between 4 wheels is only going to hurt you. If you have a car with tons of power to give then AWD will be optimal. Not because AWD is better, but a high powered RWD will likely result in wheel spin. But in a perfect scenario with zero-wheel spin RWD will still accelerate faster because 50% to two wheels is better than 25% to 4.

stop brake boosting modern vehicles,they have electronics that control the throttle and it does nothing for it infact it most likely reduces take off speed
