Turkey season is fast approaching and I wanted to see which turkey load patterns the best out of my shotgun. I tested 3 types I had on hand. I think I might compare 3" vs 3.5" next...

I shot a turkey today with long beard XR’s. It was about 35 yards and the turkey never moved again. That was also because I had 3 1/2 inch 2 ounce 5 shot lol. But this is my irate turkey and it was a nice Tom with a 8.5 inch beard and great color on his head. Beautiful fan as well. Anyway great vid and I like your new turkey gun

I got my first tom with Remington Nitro at 30 yards with my NEF single shot 12GA. But after trying Winchester Long Beard XR's, I'm going with them this season. They definitely pattern tighter at longer distances and in my opinion, are worth the extra bucks. But at around 20 yards or so, Nitros will undeniably seal the deal.

Remington nitro patters better than the top shelf ammo out of my 11-87.

I love the long beard #5 with the Carlson’s Choke tube. I killed my first Gobbler a few years Ago at approximately 45 yards. Good stuff. I have 6 shells left over. I can’t find any anywhere!

I run 3” Longbeard XR #5s from my H&R pump 12ga. Just picked up a 20ga that needs patterned. FYI both Up In Arms and Jim’s Sporting Goods had a lot of Longbeard 3.5” shells last month, but I don’t remember what size shot they were.

I shot a bird at 52 yards with 3 inch Long Beard XR 5 shot out of a Winchester SXP with the same diameter choke. They are such a solid load. Looks like you got a solid set up!!

I love the gun so far. For the money, hard to beat! I'm gunna grab some 3.5 #5 just to mess with I think.

The resin in the Longbeard ammo leaves a streak in your barrel ,sometimes it wipes right out others need run a rough brush tip down barrel, plus their stupid expensive where I live. I've had amazing success out of my early model 870 Express with a Undertaker full choke running the Remington Turkey Nitro #4

Would 1210fps be a little to slow for hunting geese/ducks?? Passby shooting and stuff,,, or is that like the minimum

I shoot Long Beard XR’s 3.5” out of a Geersan MC312 and at 40 yds last week I made jelly out of a toms head I also use a red dot cause my eyes aren’t as good as they used to be but man if the dots on it it’s jelly!

i think you will find that the 3" shells will throw a better pattern than the 3.5" shells. that has been my finding with several different shotguns, its the reason i will no longer buy 3.5" guns.

I use winchester xpert steel shot #2, and winchester double x shot 4, lead copper plated bbs, the dbl x performed way better in my browning gold then the xpert and I'm using full choke that came from the factory that was put in the barrel, havent try shooting out to 15 plus yard, cause these ammo are expensive to be target shooting lol may try it again after the snow melts

I do not understand why the point of aim is so low on your targets. I would shoot one inch higher. Pellets in the brain work just as well as pellets in the spine. Pellets that hit the body do nothing the feathers are like a ballistic vest.

Hey. I was wondering what differentiates a "turkey load" from a normal shotgun shell. Are they the same as regular birdshot shells or packed differently? Why are they called turkey loads?
@DanielMartinez0394 Жыл бұрын
In general they are shells that are 3 inches or longer so that you can fit a bigger payload in it . Also more powder to keep pellet energy high as it goes down range.
@johnnorman7708 Жыл бұрын
Turkey loads are higher performance magnum ammo labeled and promoted by the factories as a specific use ammo. Initially it was no different than regular magnum ammo. Just labeled for turkey and sold in smaller boxes. But there have been so many technical developments that Turkey loads can be very different and have many price ranges. You have to study up to keep up on what is out there thats being called turkey loads these days. There are several options now.
@michaelyork7844 Жыл бұрын
@johnnorman7708 yes the usual money grab by companies with the labels
@johnnorman7708 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelyork7844 That little profit boost per unit is always a consideration for manufacturers. But they have really delivered on performance options too. We have shotgun ammo capability in 2023 that was only a fantasy in 1973. And shotgun ammo development is pretty complex and costly. I hate the cost but love the options they have given us with a price range almost directly proportional to the performance delivered and the new tech factor.
