Tyranids lore is lacking af TLDR no first person lore due to hive mind. Tyranids win some and lose some, adapting and becoming better killers as time and battles go on. Now in the lore, Tyranids basically surround all remaining human-like life as they have converged rdy to skull f^*+ or die trying and waiting on something to pounce

Good to see my bugs getting some love. At the moment, as I’m sure others will be saying, Kraken melee focussed detachment in combination with a ranged Kronos or Jorgmungandr detachment seems to be the ideal way to play them. Or, for fun smaller games, load up your army with Carnifexes, give them the Leviathan/Bememoth or (prey sight and regen/synapse re-rolls) and SMASH!

@@setaripantheon8801 not sure I'm the best to ask, but I'll do my best. best I can suggest is, If you're looking to play a nidzilla list, keep it simple, and you can't go far wrong. Carnifexes are really good to to start with. Standard dakkafex (two sets of devourers and enhanced senses) for something shooty, and stick with scything talons+ crushing Claws tusks and tail weapon for a melee threat. Spore cysts are pricy, but -1 hit is great Lead this with Hive Tyrants (Swarm Lord if you've got the points). Wings, 2x sycthing talons for a forward threat, heavy venom cannon, for backfield support. Catalyst, Onslaught and paroxysm are useful psychic powers to have, psychic scream is pretty good on a front line tyrant, and the Kraken and Kronos powers are both useable. Of the bigger beasts, I think the Exocrine is probably best for shooting. Fill out slots with ripper swarms to screen/ nab objectives. The blood of Baal book had Lots of neat stuff for monsters ( custom hive fleets, adaptive physiologies, resonance barb and specific stratagems) but you can get by without until the new book comes around. Obviously, some of the Forge world options are great, particularly the Dimachareon, but not the place to start I'd argue. Probably lists that work best In smaller games. Inlarger games, low maneuverability will the biggest issue. Screen best you can. Might lose more than you win, but you'll have fun doing it

I play around Zoanthrope batteries, and take the custom traits that allow me to regenerate at the start of my turn and give me one psychic reroll (to reduce the odds of perils). I just like watching the opponent committing a bunch of firepower into the 3++, watching a zoanthrope go down to 1W, then at my turn the trait and a neurothrope’s smite heal it to full.

I'm old school, when I used to play there were only Genestealers (Space Hulk) and (with advanced space crusade) Tyranids and they were blue and purple (now called Hydra) so thats what I play. To be fair, I have waves after waves of genestealers due to various editions of space hulk.

Like you have to remember the tau has Way better tech then the imperium. Plus the tau also made a alliance with the imperium. Wich is kind of hard to beat like but idk Maybe your right and i am just a bit salty as a gorgon player my self.

@@John_the_badass what makes me say that is Jormungandr is all about tunneling underground and and maximizing durability, things that are pretty much exactly what you need against the Tau since they can’t shoot you if there’s no line of sight, and if they can shoot you then you need to be able to take a beating or it won’t matter how nasty you are in combat. Gorgon’s toxins & high damage output feel more fitting for a hive fleet that expects to face a lot of Orks or Nurgle Chaos stuff since you need to actually focus on out-competing them up close

It's kinda funny how the tyrannids, which really just wanna eat everything, are one of the three factions that actually stand a chance of winning. The Orks have pretty much already won because they have a whole lot of stuff to punch in the face, and the Necrons are more than capable of exterminating everyone else.

Jormungandr all the way. I love making beefy bugs beefier. I played against an ad mech player who didn't have ap on his infantry and my genestealers were unkillable. I named that build Basically Custodes.

Love this army. I tend to flip flop my hivefleet often to fit my playstyle of the moment, but I have to say I love the psychic tricks you can play with kronos a LOT. Uncommon but fun: run kronos with biovores. Extra spore mines become doubly harassing when you can bounce deny spells off them and the mortal wounds add up fast. A frustrating variant from the classic exocrine/hiveguard build and I usually use that extra map deny to allow an otherwise melee army to get up the table faster. Smaller maps make kraken less important IMO, so despite its popularity I rarely run it. Custom hivefleets are REALLY good for OOE fans as well, as he cant be equipped with custom traits or adaptations anyway, so getting an extra regen (2 per turn lol) or wound rerolls on scything talons boosts his power considerably. Ill sometimes mix that into my krono shooters to make for a really thematic army of psychers and melee that allow kronos to buff/disrupt and allow a tidal wave of claws to crash into the front lines. Very on brand :)

As someone who plays leviathan(love the pale and purple) our 6+ FNP when near synapse is a pain to play with. Synapse has 12 inches range and can be extended via our power etc. But our FNP only activates within 6 inches. Dosent matter if you have 18 inches from our psychic power or hive tyrant/swarmlord. You gotta be 6 inches near it anyway. So we have a power that allows us to spread out our units but to get our hive fleet bonus we need to stay close together????

Best is Kronos Tyranid shooting is far more reliable than its melee outside of a few units, but the melee needs supporting with shooting anyway. It also turns Hiveguard froma a good unit to a great one and Exocrines from a great unit to the best The reroll 1s to hit and the bonus hits psychic power are both excellent Warlorrd traits is interesting, but doesn't matter anyway thanks to Adaptive Physiology The Stratagem is situational but can save your life in a clutch situation, preventing some truly nasty Psychic powers - particularly if you combine it with the warlord trait if you take it HF Hydra's reroll ability is next to useless Genestealers can hit on 2s with a broodlord and Hormagaunts already reroll 1s... Definately is the worst fleet If it was simply reroll to hit on the first turn of a melee for all units, then it would be worthwhile, or +1 to hit vs outnumbered units... still benefits the infantry the best, but still useful for the large units. Also, their stratagem could be fixed by having it refill a unit like with tide of traitors and not needing reinforcement points.

I always fancied doing a Nurgle Tyranid army. I could then run them as whatever, but I initially thought of them as a a counts as Chronos army. would be a lot of fun kitbashing nids and nurgle as well, and lots of room to sculpt with green stuff and use plasticard. With the lore you could just say that they were cut off on a plague world and a strong nid survived, and evolved to reproduce using the plagues and stuff of Nurgle. So they are still autonomous, but Nurgle allows it as it spreads his gifts. It's pretty strong lore I think. and I do think I will end up doing this army. I'm not sure on the name yet though. "Hive Fleet Pestilence" is pretty good though.

Being a new player starting with tyranids, i really appreciate this video for all the information you give. Ps.: it was told in a past video, but can't find it anymore, but is it mandatory to paint the army as the group i'm gonna play them with? for example, if i want play gorgon, it has to be a green paint or i can paint them however i like and choose the fleet when i play?

Nothing is mandatory so long as you make your opponent clear what you are doing. Most people tend to paint for one of the fleets but play whichever is most convenient. My own Tyranids are painted a custom colour scheeme, so I can play them as anything I like. The only thing I would say is that if you are intending to play detachments with differing fleets then having the units of each detachment painted differently is convenient but again not compulsory.

For instance, all the 'nids in different detachments might have their bases painted in some specific color, or there are snap on multi-colored base bottoms that could serve the same purpose. This works for individual mobs of ork boyz, or squads of Imperial Guard troops you want to differentiate for things like morale when they get too close together to easily identify which specific unit a model belongs to.

May I introduce you to my custom Hive Fleet: Reaper. Taking biometallic cysts and pack hunter as adaptations and throwing down with Genestealers with scythes, a hive tyrant with scythes, carnifex with crushing claws and scythes... The broodlord without scythes because why would he have them even though I run the old model that actually has scythes... But yeah basically if it has scythes it fits. I'm aware it only works on infantry scythes. Murderous size+crushing claws is brutal. Having the new synaptic link and some extra bonuses to hit and what not really help. The tyrant and carnifexes usually take one side around 11" away from the broodlord. Allow the link to maintain, helping out any random lictors that pop up, or gargoyles that swoop down. I enjoy the custom rules even if they aren't as powerful. I just wish the custom rulings let you take a power from the hive fleet your custom one splinters from.

A lot of lists run multiple hive fleets. You put your gaurd/exocrines/nuerothrope etc in a Kronos patrol, then you can run like a swarmlord/gaunts/genestealers/hive tyrant/warriors/whatever else in a kraken or leviathan patrol. I will say leviathan was much better before the objective focused gameplay of 9th. Nowadays its really hard to justify getting rid of the sheer mobility of kraken for controlling objectives

I'm a nid player to the core, and mostly I play Gorgon. Gorgon's trait is not great, but it helps my favourite nids (fexes and tyrants) overcome their S6. My favourite tactic is the 'unkillable Hive Tyrant', Warlord Tyrant with Adaptive Biology Trait and Hyper Adaptive Biology Relic, Monstrous Scything Talons and Heavy venom Cannon for weaponry and adaptive physiology of either Murderous Size on the Talons or Accelerated Digestion based on the enemy's force (MS for tanks, AD for infantry), Psychic powers ar eCatalyst and the Horror. he is a beast, being able to get to toughness 8, 3+ save 4+ invuln, -1 to all damages and 5+ FNP, witht he scariest attacker having -1 to hit. That said, he can be overwhelmed if he gets focus fired or very unlucky. A trick to triggering the Adaptive Biology and Hyper adaptive biology Buff is to try an make him perils on your first turn by casting psychic powers, or bringing some tyrant guard. the biggest weakness is that this becomes the centre of your stratagy, and takes up limite traits, physiologies and relics. He basicly wins a 500pt game single handedly though and will dominate 1000pts. Behamoth has some cool tricks, Stick the arachnacyte Gland on a trygon Prime and Murderous Size his Monstrous Scything Talons for deepstrike, 3Dc pick 2 rerollable charge, 7 attacks hitting on 3+ reroll 1s, S8, Ap-4, damage D6+1 (it might be worth giving him the behamoth warlord trait and toxin sacs, so that rolls to-hit of 6 are D6+3 damage). If you have apsyker kicking about at the back get him to cast Unstoppable Hunger on the enemy you really want him to kill. But once again he's become the focal point of your stratagy. Nids suffer from having little synergy, and all of their best options require you to build your whole startagy around them (as opposed to being good stand-alone units which don't take up your very limited Relics, warlord traits or adaptive physiologies). On top of that, most stuff is generically overcosted and or has an embarrassing flaw. But less than great rules are temporary, the bugs are for life.

Hang-up from 8th edition. Used to be that you’d have to set aside points ahead of time to pay during the battle for units that might be brought in through stratagems, psychic powers or unit abilities (such as The Tervigon). It was Speculative and annoying, and meant theses mechanics rarely got used in 8th. Check the “Rare Rules” section of the BRB (Pg360-363) for how these abilities work nowadays.

Ya the only points you don't have to spend for are spore mines created by biovores. It would be nice to have endless swarm strat cost more cp then have to set aside points. Also Tervigon can spawn to reinforce termagant with out cost, only if create new units.

Mine are painted as hive fleet tiamet as I really liked the little bit of lore they got in the codex. In game I always play them as kraken. I used to use the custom ones when blood of baal came out but I realised kraken is far superior to any of those adaptations.

I usually play Jorgamander. All of the tyranid Warlord traits are garbage, so I usually get the Adaptive Physiology: Enhanced Resistance means that even in the open a chunky unit of Tyranid Warriors is 3+ save while ignoring AP -1 and -2. Dynamic Camouflage on a unit of Hive Guard gives them a 2+ save against shooting too.

Tyranid lore is basically they almost beat X marine chapter but they were barely held back. The marines lost no one of importance so nothing really happens. Unless you’re BA in which case they were attacked purely to crowbar shit primaris into their faction.

All lore is written from the Imperiums perspective, therefore the only lore that gets written down is when there are survivors to tell of it... Tyranids dont take prisoners. Also, do you really think the Imperium is going to be honest about losing? The heroic last stand of the few against an unstoppable zenos horde is perfect propaganda material.
