I picked E and I have a theory as to why it was picked second place. When you look at E by itself, the green cast is obvious. However side by side with the other footage, the magenta and reds in the other clips makes it appear more accurate. I'm assuming this was how the footage was presented to your test audience. Also, it seems like D got pretty dark on the close up. In spite of that, D was my second choice. Cool video and subbed now ;)
@David-ud9ju5 жыл бұрын
On it's own, it looks green. Side by side with the others, it looks even more green, because it's next to lights that are obviously neutral in colour. I had E and G as the worst because they both obviously had massive hues to the green and magenta respectively.

What do you take in account when setting up the lights? Like deciding the position, the power, so on and so forth. Like you told about fighting the Sun, could you show us how you do that and how does that affects the scene? Thank you for your videos, they are very informative. I have watching them since I discovered your channel yesterday.

Wow, you're really great at this. Love your videos and looking forward to your next vlog. As for these lights and the budget filmmakers out there, why not just go with the cheap bright LED's and throw a 1/4 OTG or OTB on it? Save some money and get the color you want. Definitely more work in post to get the color right, but it would work, right?

"they are not going to last very long [regarding setup and breakdown]" ... this is pretty much my experience with the Aputure light dome: the stitching on the seams in one area came apart, and the velcro on the diffuser straight up ripped off. The fun part about the latter, is since it is a Chinese company (like most nowadays), official replacement parts take months to get in...

Great video. Love your channel. Do I understand right that the 120d is 6000K? Have you had any issues missing that with natural daylight or other sources at 5600K?
@wodddj6 жыл бұрын
Spectrum is important! For example you have a object reflecting 600nm orange, and your light does not cover that wavelength, then it will be grey and dark on the sensor. Same as what human eyes see. The best way of lighting is to burn the lamp filament to 5000K temperature, it creates a most continuous spectrum curve.

surprised you didn't mention Quasar Science tubes. I have 4 of those, two 2 foot, and two 4 foot, and they're amazing and super light and easy to use, although naturally soft, so they're not as versatile as harder lights that you can soften with a softbox.

@smalltalk.productions99775 жыл бұрын
for indoor use and when you need a ton of light in a wide space, think old-school and use the lowel tota. yup, it's tungsten and gets plenty hot but it really powers the light especially if bounced off a ceiling so works great indoors. thumbs up.

May I ask something dumb? I was videoing a white decoration using outside light as ambient light. The item was on the floor, and from eye sight the Shadows were soft and good, but the camera recorded it as a blue source light. When I've placed a reflector to bounce the sunlight from the floor, the camera started to do more natural colour, and no more blue. I think I can recover all blueish videos... I wasn't using any artificial light, and sun made this blueish indirect light. Is this normal or should I've chosen a different white balance on camera (was always on sunlight).

E. I think a little green tint is flattering to the skin. And aliens fascinate me, too.
@EricLefebvrePhotography6 жыл бұрын
Your main complaint for the softbox kits are: - Green tint (bad CRI) - Slow power up / warm up. - Bulky bulbs - Low output. - bad build quality. Most of thos issues cqan be deal with by swapping out the CFL with high CRI LED bulbs. Yes the build quality is a bit iffy (I have a set of the ones that have the 4 light sockets) but the quality of the light depends on the bulbs you put in. There are really powerful LED's bulbs with decent CRI meant for photo and video you can get. You can get a pack of 4 25W LED (that's ACTUAL watts, so equivalent to about 150W incandescent roughly) that have a CRI of over 90 (I know, CRI is flawed but still a good yardstick) for about 50$ Canadian. You can also get a 45W (no idea what the equivalent in incandescent would be) version of those LED bulbs at 24$ Canadian each. Of course you still have to deal with crap build quality but at least you get better light.
