I have a Vive Cosmos which served me well for a few years, but I'm worried it's on it's last leg since it's been having display issues making it unplayable... so I'm contemplating shelling out for a Quest 2 just to have that backup... since I can't afford to drop nearly a thousand dollars on a headset, or even a few hundred just on repair for a discontinued headset. My new Quest 3 512GB from a full battery charge (100%) to empty (under 10%) is 57min with the passthrough enabled and a Meta browser opened with a KZbin playing with a volume set to two bars. The Mixed XR costs 5% battery life every 5 minutes until depleted. Totally crushes the idea of using the Quest 3 for productivity apps IF the passthough is kept on the entire time while working, it's not a feasible solution. :(

@@dragonvonwolf5978 that's a great question- while i was using the Meta Quest 2, I wore glasses inside the headset every time. I have a few different glasses frames, the bigger of which did not fit in the headset, so the smaller of my frames became my "Quest 2 glasses" so to speak because they fit better in the headset, so they sat next to the headset ready to use whenever I wanted to use the headset. I never had a problem with the comfort level of wearing glasses in the headset, but I did become cautious of scratching the lenses- it only takes one glass-to-glass contact of your eyeglasses hitting the lenses inside the headset too hard to scratch them forever. While I had the Quest 2, it was something I was aware of, but didn't worry too much about, but then when I upgraded to the (more expensive) Quest 3, I went and got $50 prescription lens inserts from Zenni, mostly for the convenience, but also to protect the (more expensive) Quest 3 headset from lens scratching. All in all, I would recommend VR prescription lens inserts.

I want to know if the Quest 3 is better for VR Chat. It's my main game and I want to know if it will help the game run smoother, load more avatars, etc. I'm not expecting a PC VR Chat experience, but I want to be able to actually see people's avatars, even if it's the low scale ones.

Answer is definitely YES for me. I own a Quest 3 and my visual qualities are much better than my Oculus Rift S and from other reviews they say better than the Quest 2. I was willing to spend the extra money knowing the lenses are better, wider sweet spot, nice adjustable IPD, and a better Processor. There are ways around getting more battery life. I use my Quest 3 to play PCVR SIM racing games and connected via a link cable. Still learning other features of the Quest 3 and really like the way it performs. Thanks for the video. Take Care.

I refuse to pay €550 for a piece of VR, no matter how much “better” it is. I recently got a new Quest 2 yesterday and I have never tried VR and I was blown away. Unless you are a VR enthusiast or want the absolute newest tech, go for the Quest 3 I guess. But I just wanted to get a taste of VR and the Quest 2 is perfect for that.

Tried my brother's quest 2 and loved it, but my main issue was that the distance between my eyes fell between two of the quest 2 settings, so my visual experience was more often than not slightly blurry. A quest 3 would definitely be stretching my budget and I don't know if I would use it that much, but I need to decide if it's worth it for the better lens adjustments

That’s a really fantastic question, that I’m just not sure of the answer to. You could try one out in a Best Buy or Target (if you live close to one) and move the IPD adjustment wheel back and forth to see if it suits you, but another option for a “long term test drive” could be once you’ve saved up the money to order online from a retailer with a good return policy, take it out of the box and try it out at home, and if it doesn’t work out for you, send it back. Usually Amazon is good for this purpose for me here in the US, as their refund return policy is a full 30 days. Sending it back because it “doesn’t fit” your eyes is a totally normal reason to return an item and Amazon returns shouldn’t give you any hassle with that reason as long as you haven’t actually broken the headset in some way, obviously. I hope this helps!

I have a 3 year old partially broken quest 2 that I use for long hours daily, I use the link cable w my pc to keep it from dying. was going to get the quest 3 for all around better improvements for what I do in vr but the battery life is arguably worse than the quest 2, do you still think it is worth it?

I don’t see why people complain about the battery. Mine has been going great. I use a BoboVR headstrap to help also. I’m upgrading from my first gen PSVR btw

One thing I am going to say is that if I am playing a game like street fighter and if I got the quest 3 and accidentally threw the controllers out of my hands, but with the quest 2 having that thing around it may protect the controllers

That’s a really good point! I suppose if you really like the Quest 2 controllers you could pair them with the Quest 3 headset, they are cross compatible. And there are all kinds of accessories coming out for Quest 3 now that it’s been on the market for a bit. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some kind of boxing gloves type accessories for the Quest 3 controllers available, or may be coming out soon!

Hey! If you use the quest games optimizer, the main point of this video kinda goes away. You can bump up the resolution beyond the headset, and it makes a MASSIVE difference. You need a battery headstrap for this though

That’s a great question, I personally haven’t noticed a difference with tracking on Quest 2 vs 3- I’d say if you can try out both first that would be ideal. If it comes down to money then the Quest 2 is better value, but if you just want the best possible visuals and aren’t afraid to drop $500 I would try Quest 3. You can always return it if you don’t think it’s worth it. I hope that helps!

That’s an incredible gift!! I would be very grateful if someone gifted me a Quest 2. You can still enjoy the Quest 2 for many years to come regardless of other headsets coming out. As far as if you should get the Quest 3, if you are really loving using the headset and spending a lot of time in there, like 6+ hours per week, and you are feeling like you are missing out on the upgraded visuals you could order a Quest 3, test it out side by side with the Quest 2, and then see if you want to either return the Quest 3 and keep the Quest 2, or perhaps keep the Quest 3 and resale the Quest 2 to help offset the cost of buying the Quest 3. I hope this helps!

I see so many used ones for sell in Hong Kong. Many problems and or bad support with customer service with defected products. One person said controllers are Terrible and bad idea not to get rid of the rings. Is the hype train real for quest 3 ? I barely find any negative review and when I do the reviewer gets attacked. Great question, it's rather interesting- flat screen content like movies and tv look fantastic in Quest 2! I watched whole seasons of anime in my Quest 2 once Meta updated the UI to be allowed to be put on the ceiling when you reset your view. So after they did that I could just lay down on the couch and be watching a show or movie on a giant screen on the "ceiling" of my Quest Home. I hope this helps!

I had a quest two and I ended up selling it for a couple of reasons. The first one being that I just wasn’t using it as much as I thought I would and I never bought them many games. The other reason was, it was kind of crapping the bed. I mean it was getting laggy and slow and sometimes unresponsive. if I get a new VR headset, it would be the quest 3 simply because it runs better and has better graphics.

Thanks for commenting! As far as not using the Quest 2 as much as you thought you would, I think this has been many people’s experience. I think selling it and waiting for a new one to strike your fancy is a great idea- it makes the ownership cost more like “$50 per year” rather than a few hundred every few years. I think people see the quest 2 for $250 and then the Quest 3 for $500 and think they are in for $750 in headsets if they want to upgrade. But if you can sell the quest 2 for 200 or even $150, it makes it much more like $50-100 to own the quest 2 while you had it. Upgrade cycles can be a blessing and a curse haha 😅

My quest 2 is coming in tomorrow. I was just wondering since you say the quest 3 is better visually, by does that still apply for me? I see the quest 3 has a better resolution but my question is does the quest 2 close the gap in speed and graphics (minus the resolution) if I'm planning on only using my quest 2 as a PCVR on a PC with a 4070 rtx?

That is a great question, and I’m glad you asked. Because the Quest 3 has a higher native resolution, with pancake lenses, it will always look better visually than the Quest 2 with lower resolution and fresnel lenses. BUT when using as a PCVR headset, the texture resolution of PCVR games running on a gaming pc with a 4070 will already look much better than what the Quest 2’s internal graphics can muster, so it will look much better than a standalone Quest 2 game, and PCVR on Quest 2 will also look better than a standalone Quest 3 game. PCVR on Quest 2 will look good, especially for the Quest 2’s current price of $199. The only combo that would look better, is a PCVR game on Quest 3, or another headset much more expensive than any of the Meta offerings. The question then becomes do you want it to look a bit sharper and clearer for double the money or more with heavy diminishing returns, when it already looks pretty good on Quest 2? It’s a tough call, but I would recommend trying the Quest 2, and seeing if you’re happy with it. If you’re happy, great! If you’re not happy, try to return / exchange it during your retailers return window, and if not that, just sell it used when you’re ready to upgrade. I hope this helps!

Great question, it really depends on the games you want to stay downloaded on the unit. Some games are just a couple GBs, and some are dozens. But as a roundabout number I’d say on average you could download about 10-12 games on the 128GB model, if some are larger and some are smaller. Also, I wouldn’t be afraid of uninstalling / reinstalling games to make space when needed, the Quest makes it really easy, especially if you have a decent internet connection for fast download speeds. The higher storage models only really come in handy when you absolutely need lots of games to all stay installed at the same time, like if you’re traveling for a long period of time and taking the headset with you, but that’s getting really specific… know what I mean? Anyway, I hope this helps!

Quest 2 for $199 is insane value… I still can’t quite believe it. Especially since some retailers are offering $50 Meta Quest Store gift cards with some of their promotions, it’s more like $150 which is just nuts. About the straps, I never had much of a problem with the stock straps but every one’s head size / head shape is different and I’m sure the better straps are definitely worth it for some people. I’m curious to try the elite strap now, or maybe a third party one. People rave about the BOBO VR accessories.

Absolutely! I probably used my Quest 2 on a link cable more often than not. Both the Quest 2 and Quest 3 are great PCVR headsets, and if I’m honest, the upgrade to the Quest 3 visuals over the Quest 2 on PCVR was not as pronounced as I thought it would be, so both Quest 2 and Quest 3 remain great PCVR headsets in my opinion with Quest 2 being the better value for money. The biggest reason I have returned my Quest 2 is how uncomfortable it was. I have a large head and it was designed for average people with no adjustment possibility, so it literally hurt my face by squeezing it from the sides. Has this been addressed in Quest 3?

That’s a great question, unfortunately it’s impossible to know the answer until you have the opportunity to try a Quest 3 on your own head, because all head shapes are so different. That being said, the Quest 3 does have a slightly bigger “nose box” and it does accommodate wider Pupilary distance (more common in larger heads) than Quest 2, so it could stand to reason that a larger head shape might have a better time fitting into Quest 3. But again, hard to say without trying one on. I know a few months ago there was a try-on demo at Best Buy stores, but I’m not sure if it’s still going on now- otherwise, you could do the ol’ buy and try, then return if it’s uncomfortable. I’ve also heard good things about the first party Elite Strap, or third party BoBoVR strap for larger head comfort on Reddit. I hope this helps!

It’s true, we are starting to see some Quest 3 exclusives come out, and more announced. But for most users, Quest 2 is still fine especially for less than half the price. I’m really curious if Quest 3S comes out soon, how much it will change this dynamic within the Quest lineup.

Yeah I agree, battery life is probably the biggest bummer on Quest 3 for me personally, but I make up for it with battery banks while I’m traveling, and the docking station while at home. I definitely wouldn’t mind more battery life on the next generation!

To all who enjoy racing, don't feel like you need to get a whole setup for driving in VR. Just use a controller and sit in a chair till you get the whole setup going. Personally I like Dirt and Project Cars on my Quest 3 but that's just me.

Absolutely. My favorite games growing up were always Need For Speed, Forza, etc. I played those games on regular gamepad controllers for probably a decade before I started getting into the F1 games, and some Assetto Corsa, and that was when I decided to upgrade to a chair, etc. But yes, like anything, you usually don’t need the best gear to have fun, just have fun with what you have, upgrade if you want to.

EXACTLY my point. There is a lot of buzz around the Vision Pro right now, but obviously a lot of people don't want to spend $3500+ so they are looking at Quest 3. But even $500 is expensive if you've never tried VR before. So for $250 why not try a Quest 2? Much easier to justify, and if you want better visual experience, simply upgrade to a Quest 3 or other headset down the road depending on your needs!

Great question! It really depends if you are okay with waiting, and for how long. Would you be okay with waiting til July to see if Quest Lite comes out? Or maybe it gets delayed or even cancelled, since this product still hasn’t been officially announced or revealed yet. Are you cool with waiting til October or November, if they decide to stay in line with their previous Quest 2 and 3 launches ahead of the holiday season? If so, then keep waiting and looking out for a quest lite, but if you don’t want to wait, in the meantime the Quest 2 would help you dip your toes in the Quest ecosystem, allow you to get acquainted with the OS, get some games and apps in your library, and get you primed and ready for the inevitable launch of the next super kühl headset. Let me know what you think!

@@dylanmacintoshthx for the response. from the rumors people are saying the Quest 3 Lite won’t have a detachable/swappable head strap which is my concern bc the battery life isn’t great so i’d want to swap it out w/ a head strap with a built in extended battery. i’m not sure if that’s an option. i’m eager to join the VR world but don’t mind waiting a bit for a better product that’ll age better. appreciate your thoughts on my dilemma.

If you dont already have one , go for the quest 3 . It seems meta is already trying to push out the quest 2 with exclusives only on QUEST 3 . Which sucks . I have a quest 2 and rift s currently so buying a quest 3 doesnt seem justified , yet but with Batman Arkham shadows be ONLY on 3 and im guessing more will follow i will probably be FORCED to get a quest 3 at some point lol . Either way , if dont own any spend the extra and future proof alittle. I say alittle as meta is getting like phone makers in releasing a new unit every year or less lol .😊

It’s true, the announcement of Quest 3 exclusives definitely gives the Quest 3 some future proofing points at this point in time. Quest 2 is still an incredible value, but if you want to play all the latest games then Quest 3 is definitely where it’s at. The only other question at this point is after the leaks of a device called “Quest 3S” have surfaced in recent new game support listings, where will the price point of the Quest 3S fall? If it’s about $299-$349 US, then I think that will be the go-to for most people going forward. Quest 3 should remain the “premium” choice of the lineup, but we shall see… not to mention the announcement of 3rd party manufacturers designing new headsets for Meta Horizon OS… lots of exciting stuff for VR!

​@@dylanmacintoshah I wish I was! It just made sense. Meta lose so much money from developing and selling headsets etc. it just makes sense to sue the OS as almost an operating system. I wonder if they will allow people to "skin" the system like they do with android. It's going to be immense though. Smaller more portable headsets, 4k Res or even 8k (4k isn't actually 4k so lots of room for improvement)

@@CarlosWillis Absolutely, this announcement is huge for the future of VR hardware, and software. I can't wait to see the innovation driven by multiple companies to create the optimal VR headsets, much like we've seen with competition in Android phones. And I think especially because Meta Horizon OS was originally based on Android, I'd wager that hardware companies could skin Meta Horizon OS to customize the experience to their platform, while remaining open and accessible. Can't wait!

Hey, are you referring to something else other than the operating system? I have looked it up, googling like a madman for an hour yesterday just to make sure I had my facts straight, and I cannot find any information stating that the Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3 run anything other than v64 of what's now called Meta Horizon OS (at the time of writing this comment, they just renamed it a couple days ago). Perhaps the two device models of Quest 2 and Quest 3 don't have exact feature parity with each other, but the operating system is most certainly the same, Meta Horizon OS v64 currently. But that's kind of like how all iPhones from 2018 to now run iOS 17... It is most certainly the same operating system, same version number and everything, just some features are locked to certain device SKUs is that what you're getting at?
