The watch industry’s standard for water resistance in modern watches is between 0-100 meters. However, some more serious “dive” watches can dive much deeper than that. On my wrist today are three watches that boast 300m of water resistance, enough for even the most daring divers.
First is the Omega Seamaster Diver Professional, which packs 300m of water resistance in a stainless steel body complemented by a ceramic bezel, screwdown crown, helium escape valve and Omega’s calibre 8800 coaxial movement with 55 hours of power reserve.
Next is the Panerai Luminor 1950 Marina, a true diving legend. In keeping with the original watch’s design, the Luminor Marina has 300m of water resistance thanks to Panerai’s unique crown guard which secures the crown for peace of mind. Paired with the vulcanized rubber strap and the P3000 movement with 72 hours of power reserve the Panerai feels like it was born to live in the water.
Lastly, and most surprisingly, is the Breitling Avenger GMT. While it’s not the first “dive” watch to come to mind, the Breitling Avenger boasts 300m of water resistance thanks to a screw-down crown and solid caseback back design.
So, which watch would you want to wear to your next beach day or diving expedition?
