One of the perks of the H6 that none of the other recorders have for DSLR or Videographers is the angled view of the audio levels. That is so helpful. Also, if you want to recorded surround sound with external mics, none of the other recorders can give you that many channels for inputs.

Get the Zoom H2N as the cheapest way to get surround sound using onboard mics. Then you'll have to sync the audio with the iPhone X video in your video editor. Hi there, I am an opera singer and I am looking for a portable recording device that can stand high volumes within a concert setting for example with orchestra and voice singing over it AND also in a smaller room recording voice and piano. I can't really find good information about what is best for my situation, but I need something that does not distort the different qualities of the voice. I have found that some recorders only pick up the brightest sounds while losing the overtones that create more of a round fuller sound. I also find that the natural resonance of a room or concert hall can be lost. Would you have any suggestions as to which recording device would be best?
@VideoGizmology5 жыл бұрын
You are in a unique audio recording situation, where I don't think you'll find one device that will do everything you want at the quality you want. Having said that, you should try the Zoom H2N. If you have a bigger budget, you might also want to look into the Sony audio recorders. They are known for their very high quality, but equally high prices. Which one of these do you think will work best for that in a quiet room? I’m an audio engineer so can remove hiss, compress the sound etc. etc. what’s your suggestion? Thanks.
@VideoGizmology6 жыл бұрын
If you don't mind more ambient sounding audio, the Zoom H2N would be ideal. Set the H2N in the middle of all 4 people at a table, isolate the H2N on a gorillapod or something to absorb table noise, and put it in 4 track surround mode. If your room is quiet with carpet and sound absorbing walls, you should get very decent audio. If you want more standard close audio, you'll need 4 cardioid mics, like a Shure SM7B, mic stands, etc. and then get the Zoom H6, where you can plug 4 XLR mics in with phantom power. It's more distracting equipment, but if you want good audio, there's going to be compromises.

Not really a soundboard or traditional sound mixer. These are audio recorders that can be used independent of a mixer, but doesn't have the full control of a live mixer. For small low budget podcasts that are not live, the Zoom H5/H6 are pretty great. If you want a live podcast, you should probably step up to a proper mixer. The Rode RodeCaster looks amazing for $600 US.

Video Gizmology awesome thanks, that makes it a lot more clear. So for my podcast I plan on having a remote guest over the phone, would I be okay with using the Zoom H4?

Guests over the phone is really tricky. If I'm recording someone over the phone, I try to use Skype, Facetime, or some kind of voice calling app that I can use on my computer. I then use ScreenFlow to record the conversation. ScreenFlow is a desktop app that can record whatever video/audio is on your computer. You could use a Zoom H4, but unless you have an additional piece of gear that allows you to connect your phone to an XLR input, you're better off using a computer recording app and Skype or Google Chat or something like that.

Which one is the best for field recordings ? Like to capture nature and sounds from the ambient.. The h2n, the h4n pro or the h5 ? I still wondering... if you could help me out I will be very glad
@VideoGizmology Жыл бұрын
The Zoom H2N would be my choice for nature and ambient sound as long as you also get a furry windscreen to project the mic from heavy wind. However if you want to spend more money, you can get the H5 with a surround sound mic capsule. That should give a little better quality than the H2N on paper, but most people can't tell the difference.

I do audio podcast where I interview a guest (locally and remotely) every week. Didn’t really get much clarity on which is the best. I’m interested in the H2 though. Can I achieve my interviewing goals with the H2 and still plug in my own lav mics?
@VideoGizmology5 жыл бұрын
Zoom makes so many devices because they are "best" at different recording situations. There isn't one Zoom that rules them all, however, I the Zoom H5 checks all the boxes for my personal recording needs. I recommend the Zoom H5 for your situation. The H2 is meant more for live music recording.

Which is better for record without wind noise at high speed on a motorcycle? Zoom h4n pro, h5 or h2n? Always using a deadcat.
@VideoGizmology4 ай бұрын
I wouldn't use any Zoom product situations with high wind noise on a motorcycle. The mic capsules of every Zoom is way too sensitive to not only wind, but vibration. If you mount any Zoom recorder onto your motorcycle without a professional shock mounting system, all the vibrations from your movement will be recorded and most likely interfere with what you actually want to hear. Out of all the recorders in my video, the H2N would probably have the least amount of terrible audio, but that's not great. I suggest using a DJI Mic 2 or Rode Wireless Pro. Or with proper wind protection, the GoPro 12 has amazing audio quality.

I have trouble with the data on my H4n. the sd card read no data even when it in unprotected.
@VideoGizmology2 жыл бұрын
First, check the SD card data in your computer to see if the files are there or not. If they are there, then copy those audio files to your computer. Then you need to format the SD card in the H4N before recording anything in the future. This will insure that the data will be properly recorded onto the card. If the card will not format, then you may have a defective SD card and you should buy a new one, then repeat the format process with the new card.

will input 1 and 2 always merge the audio files together on the H4N or is there a way to separate them for post production ?
@VideoGizmology6 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, input 1 and 2 are always mono and therefore will always be separate tracks.

when uploading the audio from the h6 and h4n onto your computer into a daw, do the multitracks recorded export as their own channel or at one stereo channel file per recording?
@VideoGizmology5 жыл бұрын
If you're recording to the SD card, you have different options of multitrack formats. For example, you could record two tracks and mix them together to a stereo master or you can select every track to have it's own mono wav file.

Hello, I hope you are well, I am between H1-N and H2-N. I want to record SFX sounds of things. I like the H1 for the size factor, but I'm in doubt if the H2 with its additional microphones can give me an extra in terms of sound quality or better presence. Could you give me a help. ?
@VideoGizmology2 жыл бұрын
For SFX sounds, the H2N is a better choice than the H1 or H1N, because of the surround sound mics. You're getting up to 4 mics instead of just 2, so that will give you more options depending on what SFX you are recording. For example, if you wanted to capture 360 degree ambient audio of a busy street or nature or the beach, you'll get more immersive representation of that location ambience using surround sound mics.

Is this Zoom H2N recorder appropriate for aquastic Recording purpose in Outdoor....?? Voice With all Rhythm n String Instruments in Aquastic mode Recording??
@VideoGizmology5 жыл бұрын
I'm assuming you mean "acoustic" -- yes, as long as you place the mic close enough, this is perfect for outdoor acoustic recording. You might also want to purchase a deadcat or fuzzy windscreen over the H2N mic. It picks up wind very easily and that will destroy your recording.
@РобертРосомаха6 жыл бұрын
Hey man, thanks for the review! Just a quick question. When you connect your Zoom H5 as an audio interface and plug your XLR mic in, have you experienced any issues? I hear some people say it does a terrible job as an audio interface. Thanks a lot in advance, keep it up!
@VideoGizmology6 жыл бұрын
I have not experienced negative issues with the Zoom H5 yet. There are a few factors to consider for optimal use as a DAW (digital audio workstation). First, make sure your computer is up to date with no bugs. I use only Apple computers and have not had any issues. Second, make sure your power connections are stable. Third, use good audio software (Cubase, Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Garageband) and check your settings to the H5 within the software. Finally, the H5 is not an all purpose DAW that can record complex productions. Only simple things. I've never tried to use my H5 beyond two inputs with basic vocal, guitar, or keyboard recording. If you want something more complex, get a specific DAW.

Amazing video ! i would buy the h2n for interviews,what do you think?
@VideoGizmology5 жыл бұрын
I would either use a shotgun mic or lav mic for interviews. This requires you to purchase a separate mic and plug it into one of the Zoom recorders. If you want to use the Zoom's internal mics for an interview, you'll need to place the mic very close to your subject's mouth and be in a very quiet location. I use the Zoom H2N for interviews, but I plug in a lav mic into it.

Any of these Zooms can work for you. The H2N is best for live music recordings, table conference meetings, or any situation where you want to record ambient sound. You can use it for all the things you want to use it for, but music is what the H2N is best at.

If you are a recording artist and you want to record some covers of a song, What is the best zoom to use?
@VideoGizmology6 жыл бұрын
For a solo artist, I would get the Zoom H5 and the Zoom H2N. The Zoom H5 is a great audio interface for your computer and also decent multitrack recorder. The Zoom H2N is perfect to record rehearsals, song ideas, and live performances easily. You can also use the Zoom H2N as a vocal mic to record directly into your computer. If you could only have one, I'd get the Zoom H5, but my Zoom H2N is the most used for me.

I don't use my Zoom H4n PRO much because of my type of video (TOY R/C Model Planes) where I need someone to figure a way for my Canon XA-30 or T5i to take my H4n PRO from pause to record and back to pause as I press the Record/Pause button on the camera. I have the Wired Remote for the H4n PRO but need the H4n PRO better synced with the Record/Pause of my camera as there many shots are very short 3 to 10 seconds and as many shots as 25 to 30 or more in a single flight. and can be of different aircraft. So you can see the synchronization of audio can be very time consuming if not at all impossible. Any help out there PLZ.

This is dumb. Take a single long video of everything, and sync the audio, and then make your shorter clips from there.

which one of the H1n or H2n would you choose for concerts?? which one has better recording audio quality?
@VideoGizmology3 жыл бұрын
I always use the H2N for concerts because it has 4 channels of audio instead of just 2 on the H1N. The sound quality is equal if you're only comparing 2 channels vs 2 channels of audio, but since the H2N has 4 channels, there is an advantage for live music.

Yes. It's a bit kludgy, particularly in MTR mode, but you should (ideally) have your levels down pat before you start recording.

I know, it looks awesome! It's not the same thing, though. The F1 appears more versatile and larger. The Tascam is very small and really only useful to hide on talent. If I get the F1, I'll still keep the Tascam for that purpose.
