I grew up playing in the water at Whichards Beach. As a teen on the water slides. Thankfully I was able to take my daughter when she was a toddler. My favorite memory as a kid was going to the pavilion and getting a smarties lollipop 🍭!

Really beautiful area. Some call it progress, but it's still too bad it isn't public property anymore. Thanx for the share. I guess if I had the money I'd probably get a chunk of that land, too. Way beautiful area. Take care.

I have many good memories there as a kid. My aunt and her friend went to the dance upstairs and my brother and I played the games downstairs. We did sneak up stairs a couple of times...LOL...We went back years later and camped out in a tent on the edge of the water.

I went to Whichards Beach quite a few times growing up, we used to camp there in our motorhome. I cracked my head on that water slide.

I know ya gotta remember Joyce Bunch's place at Crystal Beach just the other side of Maules point by water. I remember Whichards beach very well. It was sad to see it gone. I used to crab from there to Indian Island on both sides. One day in 1996 we caught 4000 pounds of crabs ! I believe that is the most crabs ever caught in one day by anyone on the pamlico river. A guy running the boat and two guys working a pot puller on a 24 foot Carolina skiff. I think they were only paying around 25 cents a pound back then. Lol ! Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

My dad, Billy Whichard half owner, lives right down the street. He could give you some good history.

What a loss for local kids and families when that place was torn down. Too bad the county or the town didn't buy it and keep it running. I guess taxpayers couldn't beat the bid of a billionaire that wanted to get richer. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of going there with my mom and my friends, swimming at the beach and going down the water slides on those mats -- my favorite part. I wish I could find pictures of the place, of the way it was when I was a kid. Thanks for the video!

Parts of the Whichard's Beach Campground & Marina website are archived on the Wayback Machine. The best thing I found on it, that will load, is if you click the picture on the main page, it will give you a massive aerial shot of the place. I made sure to save that picture. Of course KZbin, the worst social media site for communicating through text, won't let me post a Ell Eye In Kay. If you query archive dot Oh Arr Jee for Whichard's Beach, it should show up. Select to view snapshots from January 1, 2006.
