OK, Cheri is my "doll collector sister by another mother"! My favorite dolls to collect are vintage hard plastics and compo. I, too, always wanted a Chatty Cathy as a child but never received one. It was one of the first dolls I purchased when I first started collecting a little over 40 yrs ago. I always loved Shirley Temple movies and have collected several Shirleys in different sizes. Love the Dionnes, and have one set in a playpen though I also have a few other compo quint dolls. I, too, have started really enjoying Dewees Cochran dolls. I have 2 Buddy Lees and a Skippy and many many Madame Alexanders. I have pretty much filled a bedroom and a bonus room with my collection, but will always manage to find room for at least one more!. Thanks for the tour.

I loved this video and so many things about it: 1. Ms. Cheri's tasteful but artsy outfit and jewelry 2. Display and decor. I love the different props. And they are spaced out so each one can be appreciated 3. Love that her husband gave her a dedicated doll room but said keep them all in there 😅 I got to take over the smallest bedroom in our house as a wardrobe and just recently began collecting fashion dolls...running out of room for my clothes, purses, accessories and dolls.

I too watched for Chatty Cathy commercials. Mom took us for Christmas photos with Santa to send back to Holland and I could have asked for her but I didn’t. Instead I asked for a baby doll to care for. I didn’t play with dolls. I had a large walking doll sitting on my made bed. Christmas morning baby was sleeping in a layette and wicker rocker my mom had coordinated in cotton and flannel fabrics, ribbons and bobbin lace. I learned to sew for Skippy, Barbie’s little sister by hand at 10 yrs old and then received a Singer straight stitch. Like you I am attracted to the face and fashion of dolls. Of course Tip-It was a joy to play until our warped dowel needed replacing. Thank you for your tour. I need a doll repair here in Ontario, Canada. Is there someone whom I can reach out to? My walking doll mechanism must be fixed. Her head snapped and that was that!

I had a Chatty Cathy. I could never understand what she said. I got her new as a child and the recording was awful. The Kruess dolls are gorgeous. I love the chalk board behind Shirley. Love the table/chair set. I think Addy and Kaya are my favourites. I love most things Native. I noticed your laundry implements from the start. I too, enjoy doing the laundry. I know it is strange. I love your scrub boards and washing machines and as I was watching, I thought back to my childhood. How I would have loved the props.

Shirley Temple had a collection of her dolls that were dressed in the costumes she wore in her movies. When there was spare fabric, the wardrobe designers would fashion these outfits. Somewhere is a video showcasing this collection. They are shown alongside mannequins in full-sized costumes and photographs of Shirley wearing the outfits. They are fascinating, and in perfect condition. I don't have a link, but it's probably easily found

Cheri, I love your doll collection and your narrative was excellent! I have a few dolls from my childhood which have barely survived moving and haircuts, though the one I really loved was taken out of our storage by my uncle and given to his daughter. This baby doll is one I've looked for many years. My sis and I had the Toni perms also, and I think I must have one of the dolls! Though sis and I love dolls, my daughter and her daughter never really did, which has been a big disappointment for me! I also loved laundry and ironing (no more) and I still have my toy electric iron and a small collection of old irons, some of which I use for quilting. Interestingly, I understand that the black dolls were not popular with black children as they preferred the white ones. Whether that was true or their families could not afford the dolls, or both is still a question. Thank you for showing us your dolls. I could spend hours looking at each one in detail.
