When he said he had a "rapist wit", he meant to say rapier wit. A rapier is a type of sword, so when someone says that, they are essentially saying "I'm so sharp with my words, I can slash you to pieces with them." The thing about eating her liver was a reference to the movie "Silence of the Lambs".

"Rapier wit" is an idiom that describes someone who is very intelligent and quick to make clever or witty comments or jokes. For example, you might describe a journalist as having "rapier wit" if they are known for their quick wit and clever comments

This film was a hit at the time, directed by the Farrelly Bros who's trademark is gross out comedy. "Kingpin" and "Something About Mary" were other great films from them, the second in particular. At the owl fundraiser Lloyd meant "rapier wit", rather than "rapist wit". Rapier wit means to be quick witted, or have a quick comeback in conversation. The scene where Lloyd spikes Harry's drink and we later see him laughing whilst riding the scooter is a reference to "The Wizard of Oz", through a combination of the laugh, being in motion and the music in the background, (only just noticed that). Also the lead actress was Jim Carrey's wife at the time. "Dumb and Dumber", is an old expression to refer to two guys who are as stupid as each other, along the lines of "Tweedledum and Tweedledee"

This is the only movie whose world premiere I got to go to. They held it in Detroit, which NEVER happens, because Jeff Daniels is from Michigan and owns a stage theater here, so it was not only the premiere, it was a fundraiser for his theater. All the stars were there except for Jim Carrey because he was doing like Letterman or something that night promoting the movie. And they had the actual Shaggin' Wagon parked in front of the theater. It was awesome. ❤

17:44 There’s a phrase of having a sharp wit, meaning keen intelligence and therefore capable of very clever humour. A rapier is a type of sword with a very sharp blade. The phrase ‘rapier wit’ is used to indicate an extremely clever mind and sense of humour. Lloyd’s speech is full of malapropisms (indicated by the Austria/Australia confusion in his first scene), and so he messes the word rapier with a much more horrifying image.

A little bit of humor that often gets missed in reaction videos of this movie is when Harry and Lloyd are in the heart shaped Jacuzzi. Harry explains that he wrote her a “John Deere“ letter. This is another malapropism; he’s mixing up the tractor equipment company “John Deere” with “Dear John” letters. FYI, back in World War II, women would write letters to their men who were off of fighting the war in Europe. With “John” being such a popular name at the time, the letters came to be known as “Dear John“ letters. Love your reactions Whimsory.

The guy who plays “Sea Bass” is Cam Neely, an NHL Hall of Famer & the current president of the Boston Bruins. He was one of the best power forwards in hockey history. He was a legit ‘tough guy’. 6’3” 235lbs, but also was a great scorer. He’s a legend & he was a huge star in the NHL when this movie came out. The directors are from New England fans of the sports teams there. So in a lot of their movies they cast pro athletes from the Boston area in small roles.

My dad and I used to go watch movies at our favourite theater (now long gone), and can attest that a 14 year old me and my dad both were laughing hysterically through out. I don't think some people ever tire of "juvenille" humour if it's done earnestly and if everyone is fully committed to the act. For myself, this is a landmark film of the Nineties, from the music to the comedy. I absolutely love the song that starts the film from Apache Indian "Boom Shak-a-Lack"; I can't help but dance. The song that you said seems familiar is also a personal favourite, and has been heavily featured in films throughout the years. It is from the amazing Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and is called "Red Right Hand" and you probably know it from "Scream". Finally, you also made mention of the inestimable song "New Age Girl" by the band Dead Eye Dick. I had a friend in grade 10 that was absolutely obsessed with the song and I have fond memories of us sitting in Chemistry 10 and him playing the song for us on repeat on his yellow Sony walkman. Your reaction reminds me that like most things in life, moments are best shared and it was so great sharing this comedy with my dad, and now with you. Off topic but I really hope to see you react to the teen witch drama "The Craft" from a few years after this was released. It also has a Nineties soundtrack that I still have on repeat.

Mary Christmas... that has a nice ring to it! If you can believe it, back when Dumb and Dumber was released in theatres there was a novelisation published, written by Madeline Dorr, that softens some of the raunchier jokes and adds a few more dabs of clever wordplay. Lloyd imagining Mary will marry him and take his last name is something Madeline Dorr included in her book.

My mom and I both have a cat, and their named Harry and Lloyd, and are brothers. I went to my senior prom in the blue suit, as my brother was in the orange. This movie is such a nonstop funny movie. I was in Salt Lake City for a long weekend and found out most of the movie was shot there so I went to a lot of locations like the hot tub motel, Mary's house, the apartment, the 7-11, etc. I loved watching this because I love seeing the genuine reaction if some reacting and loving something the same way I did when I first watched or listened to something that became such a part of my life. The sequel is ok to watch once or twice. It's funny but not that rewarchable. The prequel Dumb & Dumberer is a good watch once movie but is a lite cringey. If you love 90's alternative music, the soundtrack of this movie is sooooo good. I have a CD and vinyl copy. Some songs in the movie are not in it sadly. Ihigh suggest to check it out.

5:33 this is Lloyd in a nutshell, too dumb to know that you don't thank someone by insulting them 😂 this is one of my favs, these two make a dream team for comedy! another great reaction! 👍

I was on a camping trip with my friends, everytime we drove up to the camping place or out of it we where blasting that intro song with open windows singing along. Btw I think you need to watch Silence of the Lambs, there was a quote from that movie in this one and I feel like you missed the funny thing of it. Ty again for another amazing reaction.

Quotable is an understatement. No one would shut up with it. Ever since Jim Carrey hit the comedy blockbuster scene, he's probably the most quoted/copied/meme-ed funnyman from the movies, ever. Most certainly from his era (don't quote me on that. Seriously). He's been meme-ed to death. That's why some people, myself included, have a hard time watching his older stuff. It's not even his fault. The guy is pure magic on screen.

You should really watch the first Ace Ventura. It was his break out role. Along with Liar Liar, and Me, Myself and Irene, it's his best work. Definitely his most '90s' movies.

Two Foot O' Buttcrack was made for the film and lost. Many considered it a mystery for ages. Then someone found the full song from the movie and posted it on youtube. Only recently was it "discovered"

One of my favorites. My buddies and I used to quote this movie all the time growing up. One line that I still say to this day is "suck me sideways!" And I remember that pooping scene used to have me in tears laughing. The faces and sounds he makes, so hilarious. And yes, the soundtrack for this movie is great. I love that "New Age Girl" song, the 'Mary Mo' song.

Lloyd would react to your reaction like: "I like A LOT" My friends and I could practically dialogue this move and few others growing up in the 90's.

7:42 I'm glad you pointed out the weird song. When we were very young, me and my brother used to giggle about that song everytime we watched this movie. Something about a "butt crack?" LoL wtf is this song?? 😂

The two follow-up movies, Dumb and Dumberer (the prequel) and Dumb and Dumber To, are not well regarded. But this one is fondly remembered. Good, lasting humor has to be intelligently written, so while the characters are dumb, the writing isn't. I've been recommending on every video of yours the Princess Bride and Imagine Me & You. Both are absolutely fun watches.

20:50: Here's a depressing thought if you're old enough to appreciate it: It was 25 years between the moon landing and Dumb and Dumber. It has now been 30 years since Dumb and Dumber came out.

Hi Whimsory another great reaction,This is one of my top comedy movies of all time for other lowbrow comedies I recommend Kingpin (also from the Farrely brothers), Austin Powers, American Pie and The Naked Gun and Hot Shots The last 2 are spoofs of Cop movies and Top Gun respectively in the style of Airplane.Glad you had fun I did too.

17:42. “A rapier whit.” A “rapier” is a type of sword from way back in the day used mostly for duels. It was meant that you had a sharp sense of humor.😆🌸🌿

This movie came out around the time the graduated high school. I saw it with my parents when it came to home video. We missed some joked because we were still laughing at a previous joke. One of the best comedies of my lifetime. They don't make movies that funny (to me) anymore.
