@heatherhudson95145 жыл бұрын
I did very well, got the majority correct, had trouble with the ones that were cut into gemstone shape already...theres so many that look similar and most like that are available in wide range of colors. And there were a handful of stones that I have never heard of or seen so it wasn't just a test but educational as well. could you do more like this one please, I really enjoyed the challenge. I have 102 crystals in my collection but my new challenge is I'm trying to get every jasper type known to man, or at least get all available to me.

When viewed from the direction that produces its most attractive color, most cordierite is a distinct blue to violet in color. It is one of the most strongly pleochroic minerals. Specimens that produce a strong violet color can be rotated to produce light violet or dark yellow hues.

I guessed 142 correctly. About 20 I have never heard of. I study gemology, so we don't learn much about stones that are not used for gemstones. On a few, about 8, it seems like you used "trade names" rather that their scientific names but I realize you were trying to help us by being alphabetical. This is fun and a great challenge, and I will go through it several times until I get closer to 200. I was surprised you did not have pezziottaite...it is one of my favorites because it has stunning inclusions. Thank you for all your work putting this together. If only some very kind minerologist or veteran rock hunter would show a split screen of th mineral in its raw state then its cut or polished state. It would make identification so so so much easier & allow us to pick up stones that we wouldn't normally do because some fabulous gems look absolutely crap in their raw state. Not that im a prospect hunter, i collect b coz i love what i see or how mineral feels in my hand but it would be th icing on th cake to find a valuable stone by knowing WHAT it looks like in its raw state. So many people must have disregarded stones as nothing special when it could have been a diamond or emerald or sapphire. Iv looked for yrs for a book guide to show me both raw & cut stones a good comprehensive variety but not found one ( there is one fab one but its £75)
