Whinlatter Mountain Biking (South loop) Altura Trail

Whinlatter Mountain Biking Altura Trail is split into two parts, with the south loop being the second part of this great red route. Whinlatter's red route loops in a figure of eight with the south loop the second video of my day there. Not the longest of trails, you leave the car ppark, cross the road, then through the forest for 500 metres before you start the relentless climb. The Altura trail is thankfully made up of approx 80% single track, making these climbs somewhat more enjoyable then your average trail centre fire road. About halfway up the south loop, you can join the downhill if the legs dont fancy the remainding elevation. Today im shooting for the top and the view it rewards the persistant.
From the summit, Whinlatters south loop is one, none stop grin fest of a descent, back to the bottom. Is this the best red route descent in the country? Its long, fast and makes the climb worth it, that for sure...... Enjoy Ya Ride's

Bro, it is 1 climb to the top, then 1 huge Descent to the bottom. A great ride, especially when linked with last week's north loop 👌🏽

I don't think it's a bad climb up to top of south, I much prefer it to the north were u get that endless fire road climb. It's such a sweet decent never get tired of doing it, great vid 👍

I see what your saying, I think it's the fact, it's just 1 climb. Other then one 300m section you climb until the summit. It's alot more fun then fire roads that's for sure. And the DH is sweet 🍯

Have you tried proper climbs like nan Bield or dolly wagon pike to helvellyn? Makes whinlatter look like a slag heap.

I did Helvellyn as teenager, some 20 year ago but I've not been back since then. Definitely a different animal to Whinlatter, from what I remember alot of hike'a'bike aswell...... I'll have to make a trip over to the lakes again for a blast 👍🏼

@@johnjd831 well recommended, hike a bike's are a killer. Although there is an easier route to helvellyn then down dollywagon which looked good, see BKXC's video of it. Also see MBR route guide.

get yer sen up skiddaw and look back at whinlatter! you might have already? but if not it is the best hikeabikes in the lakes on a good day, ,mind up skiddaw from keswick, do little man if you want, from skiddaw summit down longside edge/ullock pike is a peach of a descent, thank me after you have done it! you wont be disappointed!

This should be good never actually done the south loop everytime I go it lashes it down and end up stopping after the north loop.

Whinlatter has been the biggest anticlimax for me and the lads, why anyone would ride here when you have the whole lake district to explore, hammers is far better than whinlatter now Danny Hart is involved
