I’ve read that some pentastars are very sensitive to the filter and can throw (flow/pressure) codes if a non-OEM filter is used.

@KXKKX i have had a Wrangler JK, Wrangler JL and now a Gladiator, all with the 3.6 and have never experienced any oil flow issues or warning lights. I have primarily used an Amsoil or Purolator Boss filter but have used NAPA and Fram Ultra in my Wranglers with no issues.

@ Really. I learned about it when a friend with a Jeep asked to use my code reader. Looking up the code led to multiple forum threads suggesting the non-oem filter as the cause. We got an OEM filter, dropped it in and the code never came back.

I don't think you can go wrong with the quality of any of these filters. I think the decision comes down to price/value.

Nice Job Pete. I do agree that the Purolator boss and the Wix are carbon copies of each other. As long as you change your oil every 3000-5000 miles it really does not matter what oil filter you run. Its those that push oil changes to every 10K-20K miles that the type of filter would matter. C'mon people, change your oil. ITS CHEAP INSURANCE!

I read on a forum that the mopar is made by Hengst. It's a top quality filter and is highly recommended in the pentastar community. These are all top quality filters. You should do a budget comparison. Supertech makes one for like 3.97.

I prefer filters with more pleats. The particles in the oil end up in the bottom of every fold (pleat). More folds, less likely to get plugged up with particles in those folds.

Thanks, Pete and Muhammad Those of us who use cartridge style oil filters appreciate you showcasing them. I have a Jeep Gladiator with the 3.6 Pentastar. I usually use an Amsoil or Purolator Boss oil filter. My oil analysis always comes back good on filtration with either filter.

Mopar has almost twice the filter media but the Mann + Hummel clones have better filter media. The Mopar definitely is at a lower price point but I'd shop around to see if I could get one of the clones for a better price.

One can't directly compare area of a synthetic media filter to a cellulose based media filter. Synthetic media is a "depth" media, where cellulose is a "surface" media. They trap and hold the particles differently. That said, the cellulose media Mopar does look fine, and having seen post anecdotes, it performs well. The XP/Boss excellent cartridges, but pricey.

Great Job, Pete, thanks for sharing Muhammed! I use Boss filters so I would go with that, but the XP is identical and would have no problem using it, I'd just have to drive farther to get it. So laziness would win the day. I have used XPs when the Boss was out of stock. The Mopar looks like a good filter, but I like the other two better. If you change every 5K, the volume of filter media shouldn't matter much. The core looks similar to the filter found on a Land Rover LR4.

Synthetic media XP and Boss, same Pentastar cartridges, both M&H. Fyi, the Fram Ultra XG Pentastar cartridge was also made in S Korea, looked identical to XP/Boss, including polymer backing. It was well liked. Now First Brands moved to Brazil coo, and they look like trash. The cellulose-based media Mopar looks ok too. Thanks to Muhammad for the cartridges and you Whip for the comparison.

Great vid. I’ve been waiting for this one. The one thing I wanted to know about though is why does the OEM core not twist like ALL the other filters made for the Pentastar? Mobile 1,Fram, all of the core’s center tubes are able to rotate while the OEM doesn’t.Has to be a reason.So until someone explains that I stick with the OEM.Mainly because the Pentastar oil cooler is a known leak issue but no one really knows why?

I watched a different utube video that stated paper filter could be considered better because it would absorb water or other liquid contaminants and pull them out of the oil. Thoughts?
@WhipCityWrencher4 күн бұрын
JMHO, but I would think more water from the oil would evaporate in a half-hour drive than would be absorbed by the oil filter.

Not a fan of Paper Filters ( Cartridge Filters ). This Comparision is a good one. Depending on what type of Engine Oil the owner is running on his Jeep will have the best results for the 3 filters. If running the regular engine oils like Mobil 1, Castrol Edge, Valvoline Synpower or OEM Mopar Oil stick with OEM Mopar Oil Filter. If running Jeep on Royal Purple, Redline, Liqui Moli or Amsoil then use Wix or Purolator.

Mann an Hummel is not going to keep the Wix an Purolator name around for ever sharing the same filter. I wonder what brand name will fall or just call it wixolator lol
@faxmen094 күн бұрын
Topic is a cartridge type filter and specifically Pentastar application. So, not exactly representative of the significantly larger spin on offerings. That said, M&H has been moving the Wix labeled brand spin on filters more towards Purolator type design. Though clever, highly doubtful M&H will go with the "wixolator" name.

Made from plastic for better recycling... They don't get recycled. The municipalities dump it in the same land fill. China isn't buying our recycling and the recycle it properly costs too much in the US. The sheet metal cans are actually easier to recycle. Its also embarrassing we don't make a us made cartridge filter in the US.
