i made this whipped cream and it came out nice and creamy and it feels nice on my hands, now am going to create my own whipped cream. thank you, your formulations are so unique and different from what I was taught .

how long do we have to whip the butters with the stick blender ?

It depends on the batch size - the point is to get air through the whole mixture as it 'sets' into its emulsified form. The larger the batch, the more you need to introduce air especially considering the weight of the batch above it. Small batches with loads of air work best but you'll need to check what works based on your equipment and batch size. Happy formulating!

HI Belinda, one of my favorite products that I create is a anhydrous face butter (I reduce the whipping time so it has less air) consisting of plant butters, oils and a small amount of essential oils. When applied, it turns from a butter to a smooth oil. Feeling viscous at first and then disappearing into the skin. It is my best seller but as the weather heats up, I do not carry it because it has a low melting point. I was wondering recently, if I could add an non silcone emulsifier to it so that it doesn't have a melting issue? My concern is that it would change the consistency and make it too thick. Can one add an emulsifier to a anhydrous product?

Hi LG, you are probably using too much low melting point materials - limit low melting point materials to 10% maximum and increase high melting point materials to improve viscosity stability over all temperature/climates. Can we add gluconolactone as a stabilizer in our cosmetics, as I do not intend to use EDTA because of issues of biodegradability

Thanks for the video It's informative is this kind of creams suitable as a base for exfoliating creams I mean could it hold particles suspended if not could you please make a video about exfoliants there is a great demand for them thanks

It could hold some - but the whipped format is not ideal for that as in a whipped cream you are trying to make use of the aerated texture, the exfoliants would impact that. My slurry plus water looks like snot in a bottle when all combined. Also I notice the slurry have little grits everywhere, so I suspect ,Abe it’s a low grade xanthan gum. They gave no info about the mesh. However when both phases are combined and after a bit of mixing the lotion/cream looks fine.

HI Chris, it can also be when the pH >7, xanthan won't hydrate properly so once you drop the pH it will swell and not look grainy anymore. When using large amounts of xanthan or for visual reasons like gels you really need to get the good grades to avoid the 'snot in a bottle' as higher mesh/cheaper grades do tend to look like that! Just check your pH before giving up. Hope this helps happy formulating!

How much wax and how much gum should be added to 100grams of product? Secondly did you make the gum slurry in glycerine? And how much? Then do you add the slurry to water? (Deionised?)

MAM can ecogel work as same as xanthan gum here...thanks your videos clears all concepts...extremely good.

Yes but you will probably need a bit more, but using even twice as much ecogel is fine because it has a really nice skin feel - just try a sample first to check that it holds the product aerated and still feels nice (not tacky). Happy formulating!

Hi Belinda, quick question, is it possible to use Carbomer or another polymer to gel the water phase instead of Xanthan? I'm just really not a fan of Xanthan but I absolutely love the feel of Sodium Carbomer, Aristoflex AVC, and Sepinov EMT.

No you can’t use carbomer - it will be irreversibly cut from the high shear used to create the whipped effect. If you want to use a polymer make sure it is resistant to high shear, which many of them are not. Natural gums are good for this purpose because they can handle the high shear.

hi I made another batch of this whipped cream using your formula and it still has a runny texture, not to runny and not thick . is this whipped cream suitable for a pump bottle . I live in a hot country so I do not no if it has anything to do with the atmosphere .

Hi Natalie, did you use the same materials, it should have come out as a cream regardless of your climate I am also in Qld which is quite hot in summer. Please use same suppliers of materials as that may impact the viscosity, thank you.

@@theinstituteofpersonalcare6401 I use the same ingredients . Only difference is I use glyceryl stearate SE and not glyseryl sterate citrate. I dont no if thats a problem. And I reduce the oil and up the butter and it was all good.

Hi Abdo, lipids can be oils, butters, silicones, esters - its a large category. I tend to use mostly stable, basic selections in my formulas for the videos so that you can adjust them to suit your individual choices and company philosophy and really make it your 'own' product. Is increasing the amount of the emulsifier works with any type of emulsifiers ( natural ones) or the emulsifying wax is the only one suitable here?

Its actually the gum and the air during mixing that helps create the form to these products - too much emulsifier will cause excess white rub in time and not be suitable.

Thanks, Belinda, for your extremely informative and helpful videos I so love watching and have learnt so much from. I love the idea of whipped creams but have been hesitant to make them because we are normally told to avoid incorporating air at the point of homogenisation and so I was wondering how the incorporation of all that air would impact the stability of the cream and if it would maybe cause the cream to oxidise faster or any other issues. Also, would all that high shear homogenisation "break" the liquid crystal structure your choice of emulsifier creates, or would it be safe to say that it would not affect it? Thanks!
