Whirligig Wars 2014 Entry
I went with a magician themed silhouette style Whirligig. Each time the magician raises his arm, a rabbit pops out of his top hat.
The table acts as a foil keeping the whirligig facing into the wind. I painted it to look like it was covered with a draping cloth adding stars, diamonds, and moons to make it look more realistic.
Since magicians do card tricks as well, the fins on the propeller feature Hearts, Diamonds, Spades and Clubs to resemble playing cards. I went with just the symbols similar to playing cards from the old west.
My main reason for choosing a magician was: My son Landen loves magic, he has several magic kits and regularly puts on shows for us. We call him: "The Great Landini!" This whirligig is dedicated to him.

Thank you David, The fin surfaces were just so large that I thought they needed something. I like the cards from the old west that just have the symbols on them with no numbers or letters so I went with that. Plus magicians do a lot of card tricks so it tied in really well. The theme was for my son Landen who loves magic and puts on shows for us at home. We call him the Great Landini. Regards, Bob

RJBWoodTurner Hi Bob - I had planned on making one and I've already rough cut out a Sea-king Helicopter fuselage but that's as far as I got - my idea was to go for a mountain rescue scene, we are surrounded by 4 or 5 mountain rescue teams in my area, they work so hard as volunteers giving HOPE and INSPIRATION to those lost or injured on the hills so I thought I'd highlight their work in a whirligig - unfortunately, business and my own family crisis tripped me up a bit and I ran out of time. The Make a Wish cause is such a good one, I think I'll send them a donation. I'll have to try harder for next year Cheers Bob

I found a plan in a book I borrowed from the library. It was a fisherman. I shortened the fishing pole Into a wand and changed the fish into a rabbit. I didn’t keep any drawings. Regards, Bob
