Wow Pat what a great memory this is for me, My Mother had her Whirlpool for 20 years and only thing that had to be replaced on it was the pump, Other then that it was a real workhorse!!! Thanks for the video and have a great day...

@@maryrobert80 it’s amazing when you think that this machine is over twice It’s expected life right now or close to. I mean this machine is 39 years old and it’s washing and sounding good but I didn’t check the back of the machine between the tub and the base plate to see if there was any leaking.. I could always pull it out and check. This machine owes nobody. I’m glad it brought back good memories for you. It does for me also. To me, I’ve always thought a Whirlpool /Kenmore is how a mechanical sounding washer should sound.

I grew up wirh one of these washers. It always amazed me at the engineering behind how these washers and how they worked. They were so well built. The sound of these washers was one of whirlpool's signature of an amazing product. 🥳💯

We had a 70 series Kenmore belt drive washer with a penta swirl agitator and it made the same sounds as this machine (seeing that at the time Kenmore and Whirlpool were the same).

I have used the Kenmore version back in 2003 which was the last time I used one. It had a cotton/sturdy cycle which I believe Maytag took from Kenmore back in 1997 with the Neptune.

@@MatthewJames-st5wv just the operational noises of a bell drive is what makes these machines so special. It’s funny, but if you ever heard the Maytag commercial with the cavitation noises, this whirlpool makes the same draining noises.

Pat also when you're washing heavy things like jeans and towels, put them through a second spin to help spin out more water, this will help to dry a little bit faster in the dryer... Bob

@@maryrobert80 It's funny because I've largely used washers now for the last 36 years that either spun in the six, six or 700 RPM range and it makes a big deal in drying. The older belt drives could have definitely benefited from a longer spin. Everything else about these machines more than makes up for that somewhat small deficit.

@@maryrobert80 I had a speed queen AWN432 that I purchased in March of 2013 because the agitator reminded me of the old Surgilator. Was a good machine for the 7 years I had it. Was the closest I had come to owning something similar to the old Whirlpool belt drives.

@@jeromedavis8575 They were building up their reputation in the 1950s. I think they bought Estate range from RCA back in the 1950s and that is how the connection for RCA whirlpool came into being . It gave Whirlpool more clout and recognition. Not the least though was their connection with Sears. Sears was very much behind the success of Whirlpool. I think the demise of Sears has affected whirlpool hugely….. also, the major drop in quality of their products since 2010.
