I have received a lot of feedback saying replacement parts don't look like mine in this video and requests for showing how to wire them up. I'm familiar with the incorrect part that people mistakenly get from time to time but it does come with hardware that will allow you to hook it up. I talk about this in the video posted below as well as an explanation for all the components dealing with the heating element system and how they are wired up. Check the link for the video explanation. Thanks guys! kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2jCfIt-jMSrbNE

I appreciate your video. I examined the polarity of all three fuses and found them to be intact. Taking advantage of the opportunity with the machine open, I inspected the internal ducting and discovered it was obstructed. After cleaning it and reassembling the dryer, it began heating up again. Interestingly, I had watched 6-7 videos prior to yours, and none of them mentioned checking the internal ducting. Thank you for sharing this valuable information.

Great video! Tip, if you are checking for continuity, check ALL possible related parts to this problem. I started with the thermal fuse and it was blown. I decided to keep checking and found that I was not having continuity in the heating element either. I took it out to inspect and found one of the rods had split (cut) which shorted it out. If I had not continued checking, I would have wasted more time and possible additional shipping cost if I had just ordered the thermal fuse only. Bottom line, since you're there, check everything! Good Luck!

If I hold the start button after it stops, it will spin, but without heat, so I think the motor is fine, something related to the heating. But then a little later, I can start it again and it will work for again with heat some more.

Thanks a lot Josh! I'm getting ready to test out my dryer, cleaned it out good and changed the thermal fuse. Didn't have a multimeter, just changed the TF for good measure. While my dryer was showing lack of heat, there was also a faint gas smell it gave off, only when running. Could this be the igniter not lighting and the gas flow being cut off? There was a fair amount of lint built up, so the airflow was probably a little limited. Tomorrow I'll try this out and see if it's back to normal. Somewhere I read that a gas smell is probably due to limited air flow. Anyway, thanks again! 👍👍

Thanks for pointing out the thermal fuse! It blew. Not sure why it got too hot, nothing else looks bad, the fan wasn't clogged, there was barely anything in the vent and there was good airflow. Also I noticed when you showed the back, there was more wiring to the other fuse on the heating element than mine has (only two wires connected, one to the fuse and the other to another component right below it) not sure if this is a problem or not?
@giantessmaria4 ай бұрын
thanks my friend, wonderful diagnosis and well explained. i have an old sears Kenmore dryer that looks fairly similar to the one you're working on here. I was hoping that the problem was one of those components you mentioned here, but i don't believe it is. i even tried bypassing the thermal fuse, but nothing...the symptoms my dryer has is; it doesnt seem to get any power anywhere. not even the timer ticks like it used to even with the dryer off. what triggered my problem was a very clogged vent. i wondered why my cloths took so long to dry so i cleaned it out and within minutes, it worked 1000% better. only problem is; when i opened the door to remove the clothes, and put a new load in, it never came back on. was wondering if the quick change in temp from cleaning the vent may have overloaded the circuit somehow. is there any other fuse in these things? the problem really acts like a fuse problem, or else i just fried the circuit. any recommendations would be appreciated. thanks again!

@victory236410 ай бұрын
Thank you Sir! I also cleaned the different exhaust areas and I'm now testing it. Can you tell me what component you tested toward the left bottom? It would have been the one you had trouble pulling off the plastic leads. It has four leads altogether - two are vertically aligned and two are horizontally aligned. The vertical leads had continuity but the two horizontal leads with the plastic covering did not - maybe there shouldn't be. Can you tell what that it is and how to properly test it? Thank you!!

@@joshcobb4100 Sure...and WHY each wire goes where it does. That would be helpful I'm sure.

I titled it part one in case I get more feedback off of it that causes me to need to film a follow-up. Let me know your thoughts.

I've smacked a starter motor, a squirrel cage motor, and now can add this to things I can tap to fix it lol

Hi Josh awesome video, I have the exact same model and when the dryer's front door is opened, I get no light inside nor does the dryer start when the door is closed. I've tested the power from the breaker to the outlet and I'm getting a steady 220V. Also, the power cord from the power outlet to the dryer is getting 220V. The thermal fuse, heating element, and thermostat all get continuity. I've checked the door switch, and it works as intended, pins 1 and 3 have continuity when the switch is closed. The start switch clicks and has continuity, but nothing gives me that light inside the drum when the door is opened it's as if the dryer is thinking it's closed. I've also tested the power main going to each component, but I can't figure this out. Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Might be the door switch.

same problem, did you get any answers on your own?

@@sumnsumn1490 Turns out it was the power source coming in, the wires were messed up between the circuit box and the breaker.

Question I have the reverse where I’m setting the timer let’s say 60min but cloth are staying damp but if I set timer for let’s say 45min dries fine suggestions ? Thanks
@joshcobb41004 ай бұрын
Sounds like a contact issue within the timer itself.
@renefernandez28044 ай бұрын
@@joshcobb4100 is there a way to confirm it is the timer ?
@joshcobb41004 ай бұрын
The test I do to see if I have a faulty timer is to start a time load at the 60 minute mark and with force hold the timer knob to the left and see if your heat stops and then hold it to the right and see if the heat starts or vice versa. If pushing and holding it one direction turns the heat on or off this means the contacts in the timer have worn out. I have a video under my appliance repair playlist that shows how to rebuild these timers.

Hello, it wasn’t too clear, for testing the high limit thermostat, if you have continuity through the circuit that means that is bad? Since for the thermoster you want continuity I assumed for the high limit thermostat too but you had continuity there and said that was still the problem.
@joshcobb4100 Жыл бұрын
Continuity means it’s good. What I was talking about is that if you don’t unplug it before testing I’ve had it read good but actually be open. So make sure you unplug the wires before testing.

@@joshcobb4100 Hi Josh. Nice video, but Eddie is asking what I was wondering as well. How did you conclude that the high limit thermostat was bad, when it tested as having continuity when you tested it in the video...or did you test it with it unplugged when not "filming" and it didn't have continuity?

Is the cycling Thermostat the same kinda of high heat thermostat...asking are they interchangeable?

No they are not the same.

I just replaced all 4 pieces and still no heat. I'm going back down to try this. I have this exact dryer. Still no heat. Maybe coil? I also pulled that lint vent off and cleaned it out.

What do you call the gray fuse on temp selector black wire? And should it have conductivity?
@joshcobb41003 ай бұрын
I would have to see it to know….but there is a little box in line that looks like a little relay or fuse but it’s the buzzer. Might be what you are talking about??
@ravishinghunk2671 Жыл бұрын
When you checked the high limit thermostat on the bottom for continuity it passed.. That means its good. Why did you replace it?
@joshcobb4100 Жыл бұрын
Nine times out of 10 these will actually not shut off like they’re supposed to, and cause the element to overheat and burn out or trip the safety thermistor.
