No, as you can see in the video, the seal should overlap on the edge of the drum.

I used a toothbrush and fingernail polish remover to saturate the old solvent and particles of gasket and let sit for 10 minutes, I then used hot water and an SOS pad and it came off.

Regarding Goo Gone mentioned further down in the comments, it worked fine for me. Or maybe it was the fact that I used steel wool instead of a cloth.... In any case, I would recommend care when using any kind of solvent since it's a dryer you're working on. Mine came in a spray bottle and tended to run all over; THEN I noticed that it contains petroleum distillates and is labeled flammable. Oops. I must have cleaned it up ok, however, since I haven't had a fire yet. Overall, a very useful video. My first dryer repair seems to have been a success!

+Clevider I know this is a old comment but just wanted to say that when you use solvent the fumes are not there "forever" i always use lacquer thinner to remove the gunk from the old glue, i set my seal and let it sit 24 hours (not 20 minutes) and by that time the fumes are gone,if you look carefully at the glue you are using to put the seal in, well what can i say ,that glue is extremely flammable so that kinda puts the solvent in a different perspective,LOL.

It would be helpful to know what the person used to remove the old seal. Was it rubbing alcohol or something else?

I used 100% acetone nail polish remover and it came right off.

When applying the drum seal, should the edge of the seal be flush with the edge of the drum? My seal is loose and I want to make sure before I apply the adhesive.

One thing they left off.....on some models, like my Kenmore 80, there are two plastic pieces on the right and left front corners of the front instrument panel. Pull them outward to remove. Then locate the Phillips screw holding the panel down. There is one on each side.

This is a very good well produced video. I've watched ten others just like it. They're all missing something. WHY replace the felt seal? How do you determine that the felt seal needs to be replaced in the first place? There are several reasons why dryers overheat or won't heat. Many DIY videos go straight to the thermostats and elements. How would a consumer know when the problem is the felt seal? How do you diagnosis that? Thanks, James.

I noticed my clothes are getting rust streaks after taking them out the dryer. That's a sign the felt seal has worn down, because there's a gap where the clothes are catching.

In my case, the old felt seal tore right out, and got wrapped around my clothes, so I'm pretty sure that's a fair sign it needed replacement.
