Reminds me of growing up around some of the best fiddle players I’ve ever known. Back in the 1970’s in my home state of Montana!😅

Katy, you should be living in Ireland. It's a hoot, everywhere you go they have live impromptu Irish music at the bars. I love your playing. I saw the video on the mistakes you made while learning on your own and it really hurt my heart that people could be so callous, and abrasive instead of warm and helping you become a better player. I'm glad you finally found a teacher who was willing to work with you, no one deserves to be treated the way you were. Look who's laughing now, you're a fantastic musician.

This was amazing. It reminds me of laying outside on a cool Texan summer night under a starry sky watching a bonfire and listening to Bluegrass tunes. It really has a hoppy and light feel something you can relax listening to! Your playing of this song makes me appreciate the amount of musical diversity/range the fiddle is truly capable of. Keep on playing, please!!! :D

Nice addition with the Mandolin added. Whiskey Before Breakfast sounds like a Cajun style to me. If this is an Irish tune, the adding a Cajun style really gives it a real kick! You almost had me dancing, or at least taping my feet. Really nice Violin playing with the Mandolin! On a stringed instrument, like a Guitar, I have seen an Instructor play the melody with the fingers and use your Thumb in an alternating Base style of playing giving the effect of two instruments. Believe me, it's no easy task. This music style pulls at my heart! I love it!! Glad to see you so happy again.

Love it. Love it. Love it. I need an Irish fiddle and mandolin player to play my percussion instruments with. Might you know where I could find one Lassie? The triplet sounds of the Irish really speak to my musical heart. Whiskey Before Breakfast. WOW. That was a good one.

This is always a fun song to play in groups, and is a lively tune! You've done a great arrangement with this, Katy, and I see the clones are expanding out into other instruments :) I have missed playing music with other musicians during these crazy times - I still think music is a universal antidote to everything! Stay safe and keep playin'!! (p.s.- Love the outtakes at the end!)

Great to see you back! Hope things are going better in Colorado, but you are clearly adapting well. (Getting worse here in Australia unfortunately.) Great jaunty little tune, some parts of the B part remind me a little bit of the B part of Drowsy Maggie ( I guess Maggie would be a little drowsy after whisky before breakfast. :-) ) - I have shared your videos with my violin teacher who is Korean, but she plays a mean fiddle ( Irish or hillbilly at heart no doubt! )

👏 👍Hi Katy - I see you added the mandolin to your repertoire - yippee! The nice thing I like about playing the mandolin is that it's keyed to the same open notes as the violin. And since I only play melodies, and not chords, it's like playing the violin pizzicato. 😊 🎻🎶
@garylander17554 жыл бұрын
I love this tune. I've been taking flatpicking guitar lessons for several years since retiring, and my teacher (fiddle is his performance instrument) gave me this early on. He says that it is is a rare Irish tune (I think there are lyrics) that opposes drink. The other is Temperance Reel. your video technique is amazing--wish you could solve the lag problem on Zoom so we could have jams.

@@LearningtheHarp Yay! Thank you so much! And, that's great that you feel more inspired! :) There was a bit of an inspiration drought for me for some time given the circumstances, but I'm starting to feel a little more excited to work on creative things again. I'm not a doctor, but I'm still working as an engineer. I've switched from working in flood forecasting and forensic engineering to mostly focusing on dam safety, but it's been fun! ^_^ I was hoping this would be a year of playing music with other musicians, but it seems that will need to be put on hold until next year... :/
