I find these tutorials a lot of fun even for non beginners. What makes this challenging for someone like me who's been playing (trying) for a couple of years is the combination of the strumming, chord changes and the more extensive lyrics. of this particular song. I had a lot of fun with this one! Excellent!

I absolutely love playing the Cowboy strum on my ukulele now that I am good at it, if I do say so myself, at eighteen months of play. Thanks to learning from your ukulele tutorials. It makes many songs sound good, like this one.

After I learned & played this song to my brother for the first time, he commented "Phyllis, you found another drinking song." We both know that I love drinking songs even though I do not drink (only half a dram per week mixed into my soft drink). But, I think he really enjoys my playing & singing this song. Now, he keeps saying "daddy o"

Not as hard as I thought it would be. With the change from G to Em I was first selecting the A, E and C strings consecutively, so I wasn’t playing a true Em until halfway through the chord. But then I read the comment about using the pinky and that was brilliant. Like most people’s, my pinky is weak, but use it or lose it! You really are a great teacher.

Thank you so much Elaine! You are really are churning through the New to Uke course. Great job.

Fun! Fun! Fun! I love that Hawaiian D7 ! It's hot sauce in a bottle for this southern Boy! My cup runneth over with Joy! Now on to. Ukulele super hero interview or two! Or three! We'll see! Thank you Lisa! One day I'll be a Ukulele SuperHero eh!

Love playing this song and have it pretty well off pat now. Even though I can now play the barred D7, I am sticking to Hawaiian when before or after G as it is such an easy change. Similarly, for the barred D7, I always use that now particularly if following a C. It is really just all now slotting in so well. For the Em after G, I use my pinky, which is now quite strong.
@TheUkuleleFool2 жыл бұрын
This song goes by so quickly that the Hawaiian D7 is the way to go.

Easier and quicker transition to use four fingers and just add the little finger to move from G to Em.
@TheUkuleleFool5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul. I know that some folks find that easier and some do not. I find that many beginners find reaching with the pinky daunting. This is the first Em tutorial, so I teach it this way for the first go round.
@borocavalier5 жыл бұрын
@@TheUkuleleFool Yes,I started with the 3 main fingers but as you know a Ukulele has 4 strings and we have 4 fingers so it'sgood to know there are alternatives which sometimes suit some song transitions in some songs.Although when I first started trying to use my little weak finger independantly it felt odd I like using it now sometimes.Using it is the only way to strenghten it.
@TheUkuleleFool5 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Last night my face to face students learned to transition from D to D7 with their pinky. It is their 9th class.

As I continue my ukulele journey with you, I have surprised myself how less now I look at the fret board when changing chords. Obviously not for every change, but certainly more often than not. I am not conscious of having worked at this: it just seems to have happened automatically. Wish the chucking would follow suit!
@TheUkuleleFool3 жыл бұрын
I still look at my fretboard, but like you said - way less frequently.
