Started re-watching Justified this week. Pretty sure Season 3 was sponsored by Pappy Van Winkle
@asmiga45263 жыл бұрын
Well if you look closely, every characters in Justified is defined sociologically and financially by the bourbons they drink. Ava drinks her Wild Turkey with a nutritious breakfast. Boyd only drink with people he likes (meanwhile a Elmer T. Lee bottle is standing next to him). Art, Raylan's boss is a Blanton's man. And of course, the fancy bad guy in season 3, a highfalutin bastard who open a Pappy's bottle in every episode. What about Raylan? Well, he's a simple man. He drinks whatever is in front of him. The way they use bourbons to build characters is the reason why I love this show.
@Tomislav_B.4 жыл бұрын
Honorable mentions: John Carpenter's "The Thing" with Kurt Russell sipping J&B blended scotch all over the place, Roman Polanski 2011 movie "Carnage" with some undisclosed single malt scotch and absolutely beautiful movie "The Angel's Share" from 2012... So Ron Swanson's whiskey choice is because Nick Offerman and one of the directors both loved Lagavulin so they just rolled it into the character.
@trevor426994 жыл бұрын
I couldn't confirm that but I do know that basically all the characters in Parks and Rec are the actors real personalities turned up to 11. Like Offerman is obviously a real woodworker and many of the things he "makes" in the show, were made in his woodshop, the big canoe for example. Plaza is definitely a bit weird and we see that in April.
@AndreTNY4 жыл бұрын
Tre P Nick Offerman speaks of it as being the reason in one of his books. That’s the whole reason for that scene.

The absolute greatest lines in any movie about whiskey - from Local Hero (1983): Gordon Urquhart: "I want you to try this Scotch, Mac. It's 42 years old." Mac MacIntyre: "Then it's old enough to be out on its own." My rule of any great whiskey...if it is 18 years or older, no ice...no water. It's old enough to be out on its own.

I was re-watching one of my favorite dark-action anime last week, "Black Lagoon," which is set in the mid-90's, and in the Roberta's Blood Trail arc one of the main characters (Dutch) reaches over for a bottle of Ardbeg Provenance to sip on while on the phone. I actually looked it up and it seems period-correct i.e. that release might have been available (especially to smugglers like them) around that time.

How do you not put in the scene in Back To The Future III when Marty walks into the old west saloon, orders ice water, everyone laughs as the barkeep says in this bar we only serve whiskey. The barkeep then proceeds to pour a shot and the whiskey that spills over and burns a whole in the bar while a puff of white smoke floats away. Classic!

I know you are only using western movies, but there is actually an anime about solving people's problems with alcohol called Bertender. Every episode, someone new comes into a bar and this master bartender listens to their problems and makes them the perfect drink. He also uses the different aspects of making the drink to give some quite good life advice. If anyone likes anime, I recommend this one. It is only 11 episodes long, and it is available to watch on KZbin.

Man, just yesterday I picked up The Glenlivet 15. But I got also 12 and 18 coz they were consumed by Hank Moody in Californication :D I was watching a movie Out Cold (2001) about snowboarders and saw a guy chugging Wild Turkey. Never saw that one before, since it's very rare here in Scandinavia. I gave it a try and was blown away. In my top 10 bottles ever since. The more rare and interesting moment from Parks & Recreation is when Ron Swanson was shot in the head he was drinking North Port 20, the whole distillery was demolished in 1994 and the last bottles go for 700+ bucks. Andy Samberg is a comedy genius. That was totally expected :D

For the scene in "Lost in Translation" - It was pretty common for directors to go into massive screaming fits and just whip into their assistants if anyone messed up. There's a similar sequence in Tom Selleck's Mister Baseball. The good thing about Covid-19 now is that the directors don't dare get close enough to anyone to be a physical danger to them.
