Whisky Review #26: Talisker 18 Year Old Scotch - 45.8% | I'm Still Struggling With Talisker

I continue a series of reviews centered around 18 year old Scotch whisky by looking at a bottle that has gotten a lot of chatter recently, and not for the right reasons, the Talisker 18.

Honestly it was an amazing bargain (for those who liked it) for many many years. I somewhat moved on before the price increase which I guess is lucky, but I always had an open bottle for about a decade. There are very few quality older peated products available for under $100 or even close… if anyone is a Ledaig fan I’d buy a bottle in reserve!

I was always leery of stocking up on core range bottles, but at this point your advice is spot on. If you really love a bottle, grab an extra or two if you can. You never know when you may lose it.

I appreciate you not wanting to review a whisky if you have nothing nice to say. That shows real character. But… we all should understand that this is just your opinion based on your own tasting experiences. Combine that that with a back story of why it might not be an integrity product and I think you can present an honest review. I appreciate your delicate approach and it is why I follow your channel. The whisky community must remain respectful even if we don’t agree.

Talisker was one of my favourite distilleries... 25 years ago, but the whisky loch dried up and then it got Diageo-ed. That accursed conglomerate is responsible for the enshitification of many once -fantastic brands and today I wouldn't touch Talisker with a barge-pole.

At this point I cannot disagree. I had high hopes after tasting the 25 but it seems that this is a brand I can safely look away from until something drastic happens with Diageo.

@@WhiskyUncorked I'm a Diageo hater. This is $165 by me all the time. $60 for the ten. I forget that it's colored and chill filtered. Everything on the label is like kryptonite for me. My line in the sand is the Offerman Lagavulin 11. It's the only thing I'll buy from them. Even if $165 is reasonable and it's delicious, I'd have to be feeling like a billionaire to take one of these home with me....... didn't sound all that delicious

@@jackthepickledhoundI’m with you. Diageo is a constant let down and I will have more examples here in time. I’m glad I tried this and am hopeful for better results in the future but this is definitely a pass for me in the future.

Agreed. I am in your camp. ..Tali never impressed me much since I started to dram in 1991... I blend a lot, and Tali is so fragile, its DNA aroma gets lost easily.

I haven't had the courage to start blending my own stuff yet so hats off to you for that! I can see how the Talisker 18 could get drowned out pretty easily. I wonder if a non-chill filtered version would hold up better. Cheers!

I’m a Talisker fanboy but not offended at all that you don’t connect with it… everyone is different for a reason…. This review was not bananas 🍌 😅 But please reveal the bottle you were alluding to about your extreme dis’s appointment.??? Cheers 🥃

Haha, I will probably definitely do a review of it regardless, I just need to decide how I want to approach it from a video standpoint. Probably after I wrap up the 18 year series in a few weeks. It sounds like 'kline leash for team' 😋

@@justwhiskyI love Clynelish! I got hit by the batch variation issue Ive heard so much about. My love for the distillery is why it actually made me mad that they thought this was okay to bottle.
