After a few recent disappointing official bottlings of Laphroaig - this year's Cairdeas, for one - I turned to Signatory for one of their late 90s, Cask Strength, Unchillfiltered, naturally colored Laphroaigs to put my faith back in the best of what this amazing distillery has to offer!

I've had that one myself, get it open! If it's the same 18y Laings it'd say it's even better than the amazing Uigeadail. And Ralfy, love using indi bottlings. Had particularly good experiences with peated Laing bottlings. Especially a 14yo cask strength Caol Ila. Perfect Caol ila!

Hah, whisky is indeed best appreciated when not over doing it. I started drinking whisky when I ran out of beer and didnt want to sober up yet. But now I've grown accustomed to the alcohol content and learned how to appreciate whisky,, I never can get really drunk on it anymore. I sip slowly, let it sit on my tongue for a while, I analize the finish, I put water in it and let it settle and also just let it open up in the glass. Though I do get tipsy it is hard for me to get drunk on whisky now

Thanks for the malt-mention Ralfy, though it should have been "Malt Meshuga-nas", with "Meshuga" meaning "Mad" in Yiddish :-). Great review nevertheless and I'm really in to the idea of independent bottlings and their character being a bit different from the official bottlings. Just enjoyed a wee dram of Longrow CV, which is getting better as there's less of it in the bottle :-( . Ironic. Damn.

Hi Ralfy yor HP analogy is spot on...I jus received my HP16 order from Indie bottler AD "Rat-tray" it was HP frm a different planet...like not HP at all...if you get the opportunity maltmate rest assured you can confidently pass this one up...methinks this expression would be better off 'in' a Rat Tray!!! The over-the-top AbV lends nothing to this bottling. Its just Bad Medicine Ralfy!! Peace
