For the money it really hits. You get a bit of haze with water so I don't think it's chilled. Oily sweet up front and a few drops of water really made it flavorful. Will have to spend a few days on this one.

First bought it a year ago and tried it. Was ok but not really wowed me. Had some recently having tried Islay whiskey and other Highland malts..I loved it at cask strength.

Great to see you really enjoying the Clynelish 14, Alan! It is the genuine article and, as you say, offers so much more than many another "standard expression". The story of the two distilleries can perhaps be simplified if regarded this way: the original distillery produced Clynelish right up to the late 1960s when, as you noted, it then became "Brora" and was used exclusively to produce peated whisky. The new distillery - built in the mid 1960s literally just a stone's throw away from the much older buildings - took over the name Clynelish and has continued since then to produce the malt we know as Clynelish as well as many base malts for the Johnnie Walker blends. The original distillery buildings, while taken out of commission, were never dismantled or destroyed, so of course they're now being renovated and upgraded for their re-opening as the resurgent Brora. What it all means for us whisky enthusiasts is that in the not too distant future we'll be able to visit both Clynelish and the newly rejuvenated Brora premises all on the same morning or the same afternoon. I did exactly this just last summer and was chuffed to stand in one of Brora's old dunnage warehouses and savour a 30yo Clynelish as well as a 32yo Teaninich. Wonderful drams both! Cheers.

Great review, love Clynelish agree about it being many things depending on how my palate was doing at the moment. Also love Compass Box Spice Tree which is 60% Clynelish in fact I have 4oz sample bottles of Clynelish and two different bottlings of Compass Box Spice Tree that I plan to sit down with and compare for fun. Your video production has been evolving nice intro, remembering some earlier episodes when you had those wireless earphones that blinked and reminded me of Dr Who when everyone in London was in danger of being turned into a Cyberman ! hello Dan, firstly let me thank you for your sub to my channel...on my journey, i was originally collecting single malt whisky only as investments as the banks were not generating anything for me..i was collecting for some 7 years without ever tasting any malt whisky.i was up to approx 500+ bottles...i kept getting gifts , e.g xmas, birthdays etc of bottles, i then started trying a few...then on a trip to Glasgow to visit friends i tied in collecting an auction bottle(Glendronach 15 revival) after the night out we came back and the bottle was there ..we cracked it open and the rest is history...thanks for your support my friend....

Nice review Alan....I enjoy this expression too but I have to say it's often more efficiently served by indie bottlers over the years (Cadenhead, Gordon & MacPhail, TSMOS, etc...-I had the chance to try some old expressions in the past too -1971, 1972, 1976 vintages, etc...) and I regret DIAGEO didn't choose to propose other OB expressions (older I mean) at reasonable price (such as a 21 yo, 25 yo) but I may be naive saying that... I have a question that has nothing to do with CLYNELISH, what's that intriguing DEANSTON "Decennial" in your shelves ? I will appreciate some details (a short taste note maybe, and availability/price informations please, thanks a lot in advance...)

I admit I had to give this one some time. My buddy Tony loves it and I was determined to find out why. It took sone time and he said it would. Now I really like it as well for its uniqueness! Really good stuff. All I can say is don’t give up on it if you’re only trying it for the first time. Give it a few days, a week, a month and then come back to it.

Great advice, and consistent with my experience as well. For me this is a palate whisky - it's a little bit shy on the nose, but once it hits your tongue there's a lot there. So many whiskies are exactly the opposite, it's an interesting experience.
