I'm a bourbon guy, but Aberlour turned me into a sherry cask scotch drinker! The complexity and easy drinking sold me on it. It also lingers on the pallet after the finish hits. I LOVE that

I tried this just once about 4 years ago. I signed up for a golf trip through work in Jasper, Alberta and they randomly selected another coworker for you to room with for the weekend. Of course we were from different sites (and provinces) and I didn’t him, but to my delight he liked scotch and this was the bottle he brought to drink. I agree that this was a very easy and not too hard on the wallet bottle to drink. Even more so when I didn’t purchase it ;). Great review Alan. Too bad about the live. I was all ready and cozy in my chair with popcorn 🤣. Cheers buddy!

Aberlour 12 was one of my first Scotches on my journey with my wife, and this excellent review Alan confirmed what I think of this dram. I find it has notes of honey, orchard fruit compote, and some floral finished with a little Cinnabon now you mentioned cinnamon rolls with icing. And I a agree this dram is dangerously drinkable, we will have to catch your next live show. Cheers to the best drams!

Hello, Alan. I recently finished this bottle and found myself really enjoying it. I get the 43% abv version here in the US fortunately. The Aberlour 10 is not available so I can’t make a comparison, but the 12 does well against other sherried expressions such as the Glendronach 12 or the Macallan 12. I agree that there is a heavy fruit forward sweetness that reminds me of bourbon. My problem with bourbon is at a younger age, they tend to lack the refinement found in Scotch but at an older age, the wood influences take over. The Scotch whisky that is closest to bourbon to me is Bunnahabhaine 12. I think if it was slipped into a blind lineup, it wood fool a lot of people.

Aberlour! How can anyone not like Aberlour? Which I know you do enjoy it immensely! You know with my bourbon-liking tendency, that I agree with you on the light bourbon notes with this particular selection. BTW, check the e-mailbox. Some small friends on the way to visit with you tomorrow. As always, thank you so much for the wonderful review. Cheers my friend

Nice review Alan. I do like the 12 and it's easy drinking but for the extra money here in Ontario Canada I prefer the A'bunadh, cheers.

Maybe not my absolute favourite whisky (big fan of anything from Glendronach or Springbank). But for the price (usually around £30 currently, discounted at supermarkets), nothing else even comes close. A bit of a "staple" in my drinks cabinet nowadays.

Enjoyable dram, just wish it was at 46%, natural colour and un-chill filtered, for the price that is, when you compare to others out there e.g Bunnahabhain 12. However if you ever up there, they do an excellent tour, and you get to taste some different cask strength expressions.
@thewhiskyfriend5 жыл бұрын
Not sur if you have tried it Sam as I said it feels higher than 40% to me and I'm confident that there is older stuff in this...I'm loving it and can't put it down my friend...I think this will become a go to daily dram for me...cheers fella...

@@thewhiskyfriend tried and have finished a bottle v quickly as it is good. However I prefer the Glendronachs and have numerous SMWS bottlings so must have got too used to the cask strength.

A little while ago, Aberlour actually did bring out a NCF 46% expression of the 12yo. All sold out now unfortunately, but it was pretty fantastic stuff. Let's hope they release another batch some time.

Interesting review Alan, it sounded like they are using virgin oak for some of the casks, so that might give it a bit more of a bourbon type aspect I'd guess. I'm one of those in the minority of not liking their A'Bunadh. I got a bottle a few years ago and found it tasteless. There was alcohol and nothing else, even with water. It wasn't as if I wasn't used to cask strength, I was really enjoying the Nadurra 16yo at the time. I was shocked later, when I got into checking reviews, that people were raving about how good it was. I know it is batch driven, so it may have been just a poor year but I wasn't in a hurry to try it again, and with the current prices of it I am definitely not likely to now. If I see this going cheap I might give it a bash though. Cheers, Chris.

Great review Alan, this was the whisky that got me into the sherry style and it’s always on my shelf. It’s the whisky I give non whisky drinkers to try. Both my sons love it now as well. I usually wait for it to go on offer and can pick it up for £28. It’s also a great distillery tour.

Just re watched my review and i said its very similar to cognac. However that was neck pour. I remember now that i got "bored" with it, and struggled to finish the bottle. I think it was okay, but left me uninspired after awhile. Think there is better sherry cask drams for the money. Good review though Alan!

I’ve just bought my first Aberlour. This 12 is unusual. On the nose, Sherry yes...Xmas spices yes...don’t know about red apple...palate is sweet, syrupy ,the sweetness tastes artificial, like sweetener , with that aftertaste you get with artificial sweetener. The colour has too much E150. I’m really not impressed . I’m glad I got this on offer for £28. If I’d paid more I would have been unhappy. It definitely is not what I expected.
